Were you out and about early Thursday morning the 18th of January 2024 near our 26 Pettingill Road store??? Did you perhaps see anything and could help us?? Wondering if you can help us find who hit our building and did this damage and then left. Our staff member arrived around 8:30 am to find this. Much to our surprise someone has hit the building hard and done damage both outside and in turn inside and left. “Make a Disaster Plan for Your Pets”: Developing an Animal-Inclusive Disaster Preparedness Plan in Atlantic Canada

- Amy Schneider and Jessica Rock, Valley Veterinary Hospital
The Study: This project employs a survey approach to collect baseline information relating to Atlantic Canadian’s companion animals, risk perceptions, preparedness and planning efforts, and demographic information associated with their knowledge of creating and executing proper emergency preparedness and planning techniques that are animal-inclusive.
The Request: You are invited to participate in a survey administered online via Qualtrics (a secure internet survey website). You will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey relating to your experience with animal-inclusive disaster preparedness and planning in four categories: companion animals, disaster risk perception, disaster preparedness and planning, and finally your socio-demographic information. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes. You may skip questions with which you are uncomfortable and may withdraw at any time simply by closing your web browser to exit the survey.
Who We are Looking for: People aged 18 or older who own a companion animal or pet (used interchangeably), reside in Atlantic Canada, and can read/type in English, are welcome to participate in this study.
The Survey: Whether or not you take part in this research is your choice. You can choose to withdraw from the research at any time and it will not be held against you. You do not have to provide any reason for withdrawing from this study. Your privacy will be maintained. At the beginning of the survey, you will be asked to read and agree to the consent form before being guided to the survey questions. Closing the browser will also remove you from participating in the survey.
Payment for Participation: If you choose to participate in this study, you will be asked by the end of this survey if you would like to be entered into a prize drawing for a $50 Amazon e-gift card (14 draws in total). Should you win the drawing, you can choose to donate the compensation to the SPCA/Humane Society in your province OR to receive the e-gift card by email (you will then be asked to list your email address). Your email address will not be associated with your survey responses and will only be used for prize drawing purposes.

With all of the snow that we got, we decided to make it a part of our morning enrichment! Enrichment allows animals to demonstrate their species-typical behaviour, gives them opportunity to exercise control or choice over their environment, and enhances their well-being. Enrichment is just as essential to animal welfare as proper nutrition and veterinary care. Magic and Drew had a great time this morning! These beautiful boys are still up for adoption at our west side location! Feel free to stop in and say hi to them!
