Hello pigeon advocates!
So I am seeing that there is a news article about the pigeon project. I'm a bit disappointed that I was not mentioned in it being as I was a big part of the whole thing.
When I spoke at the City of Toronto meeting for the feeding ban, I mentioned Dove Cotes and Ovo control and a more ethical way of reducing numbers rather than starving them. I spoke about how they needed us and I spoke about them being feral.
It was shortly after that, that Esther contacted me. She said she heard me and now felt she should do something about this.
So we had a phone meeting where I told her many things about pigeons!
She took that information and said she was going to see what she could do about ovo control.

She reached back out for us to have more meetings. This time with Orkin, Animals services as well as a wonderful man in the US named Erik who was also a pigeon expert. We spoke and Esther listened as we tried to figure out how best to do this in Toronto.

After that it was decided that I needed my volunteers to go around and find the best places for feeding stations.
I wanted the stations to be where the birds were being hit by cars, shot or poisoned. Unfortunately many places were not chosen.

We worked together on making flyers and I added fun pigeon facts as well as read over the other information to make sure no misinformation was in there. I also endorsed them.

My one request for all of my time was that my rescue, The Pigeon Nest. Would have some recognition for all the work we put into it.

As a rescue we need the support from our community and reading all the facts in this article, the facts she learned from myself without any mention of my rescue, or what inspired her. Or who helped her, seems quite unfortunate for my rescue. And a deep loss of acknowledgment from the community.

Rescues need support. They need media. And if they are the ones who started and formed a pigeon feeding pilot. They should definitely be acknowledged publicly.

Bit of an update I have been non stop emailing people trying to get this domestic pigeon and fanily , sorted out. I just speaking to a nice person from the TWC. Someone who I was speaking with before to get this little orange pigeon to myself.
She assured me that the social media group made a mistake about them beinf released and she said the orange one would not be released.
Still working on the mate who is disabled and the babies as all should be safely non released.

Let's keep this up and keep pushing for their safe return to a domestic loft!
This has been far too long.

Thank you.

GUYS I am LIVID RIGHT NOW AND I NEED YOUR SUPPORT. I've been keeping this a secret from most except rebabbers and rescued like Laura Mainella Lina Lulu Elizabeth Young Nina
I've been in contact with the ministry and paws.
I spent months fighting TWC and the spin they have put on this is disgusting

I cannot keep quiet anymore. I did so for the little one I was trying to save but you guys need to know the story and so does the rest of the public so here it is.

As you know this orange pigeon was brought to TWC for a wellness check and was going to be sent to a rescue through me! The Pigeon Nest.
Well a week goes by an I get a call that they think the orange pigeon has a wild nature to it and that they were going to

"DYE THE PIGEON BROWN AND RELEASE"

I begged them not to told them all the reasons that would not be right. From the fact that dying an animal is the very issue this little one came from
To the fact that molting will happen
To the fact that domestics are not good in the wild.

They said they'd get back to me but I didn't hear from them so I took the fight forward I spoke to groups like wild bird fund and Palomacy who wrote to the owner of TWC begging her not to release.
I spoke to one of the heads of the Ministry who also tried to intervene
I spoke to Paws who said they would do a wellness check.

Eventually months later TWC called and said they were willing to give to me but needed photos of the loft so I sent them and didn't here back to just recently when they told me that they let him have babies
But they didn't know about how pigeons bond mate for life.
They didn't know that now this baby is a domestic and now there's 3 birds that need a home

You're not supposed to mix wilds and Ferals together in a wildlife centre. There are laws.

They are not even supposed to have domestics at all.

This is a fricking disaster and I'm upset.
This needs to be shared.

So yesterday was Pigeon Appreciation Day and The Pigeon Nest was busy trying to get ready for their first auction ever.
The Pigeon Nest needs your help.
We have been in debt and unable to help more birds because of finacial issues. Two+ years of spending without fundraising has really been tough.
Our large loft needs to be finished and the guys that started the reno won't finish until we pay them what we owe (over 5k)
for the initial renos.
This has been a tough time with massive vet bills food meds all of it. (Over 15k)
We are going to hold an auction so if you have anything you'd like to donate please contact Erika Wilson admin and founder Canada's Pigeon and Dove Rescue Adoption and Appreciation Group
And The Pigeon Nest.

Helping us helps them.

More updates to follow.

Adoption post for the day!
This girl is a recovered wedding release! She had a rough time for a little while but it at full capacity now!
What she needs!
A safe home with not too many birds. She is friendly! Curious and would also do well with a mate.
