🐾 Thank You for Another Pawsome Clinic! 🐾

We had an incredible turnout at today’s Pet Nail Trimming Clinic at Pet Valu Trunk Rd! Thank you to everyone who brought their furry friends by for a trim and helped support a great cause. 💕

Today, we trimmed the nails of 27 dogs, 5 cats, and 1 rabbit, raising an amazing $165 for The Sault Ste Marie Humane Society! Your support means the world to us and to all the animals in need.

We’re thrilled to share that with your generosity, we purchased cases of soft food.

🙏 A Special Thank You to Chelsey from Paws On The Go: Mobile RVT Services 🙏
Your assistance today made such a difference, and we’re so grateful for your help. Having your expertise on hand truly elevated the clinic, and the pets (and their humans!) were all the better for it. Thank you for being part of this special day! We’re looking forward to teaming up again at the February 8th Clinic at Second Line West!

📅 Mark your calendars for our next clinic on February 8th, 2025 at Pet Valu Second Line West. As always, we’ll be there to pamper your pets and make a difference in the community.

With one week left until the border to our southern neighbours changes the rules and regulations for our pups, the CDC has announced ANOTHER REVISION update, but this one is much better!
Entry requirements to the states (from Canada) are now simple and easy to follow. Remember to still plan 4-6 weeks minimum prior to travel to ensure your trip sails smoothly. It is always good practice to keep all of your pets paperwork, vaccines, medications and health checks up to date and readily available when traveling.

🐾 All dogs must appear healthy on entry
🐾 EACH dog must have a completed CDC DOG IMPORT FORM
( https://cdc-786687.workflowcloud.com/forms/090dc543-7b2f-4538-b2c7-2919d12ecc73 )
🐾 Dogs must be at least 6 months of age
🐾 Only dogs entering from canine-rabies free or low risk countries may enter (That includes us!**As long as your pup hasn't visited a high risk country in the last 6 months)
🐾 All dogs must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them.

**IMPORTANT NOTE**
There is no longer any requirement for proof of rabies vaccination for dogs travelling from low-risk countries, but remember that proof of current rabies vaccination is still required for dogs returning to Canada from the US. In addition, you must comply with U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) and your U.S. destination’s regulations. Please be aware that dogs imported for commercial (resale) purposes have additional requirements from USDA.

July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month!

I LOVE 💟 Microchips but...

As an RVT I have seen many lost pets come through my workplace and when I hear the microchip scanner beep with a chip number I instantly get much more hopeful that we can find their home!

However, too many times have microchips been scanned only to find the contact Information was NEVER REGISTERED or INCORRECT 😞 These road bumps can be avoided with some preparedness 🐾
A tip I like to use as a reminder for pet parents is to pick a date of the year that already has significance to set as an annual "Pet Update Day". This reminder day can be anything from their “Gotcha Day”, Birthday to their annual exam or even June 1st with start of Heartworm season! 🦟 Whichever day or method you choose, it’s important to stick to it! That day can also be used to check to make sure you have any and all important documents such as current Rabies Vaccine certificates 💉, health certificates, review any prescriptions that may require refills or check for any expired supplies in your pet safety kit!💊🩹

If your pet is not yet microchipped, it's not too late! Contact your veterinary team for more information.
Remember prevention is key; always double check your pet is secure and has current and correct identification tags!

**NOTICE**
Microchipping requirements are changing for entrance to USA starting August 1st 2024, alway check travel requirements weeks in advance of travel to prevent delays.

Fear Free?! What the heck is it and why do I keep bringing it up? 🤔 Fear Free is the concept of minimizing and ultimately eliminating fear, stress and anxiety of our pets while interacting with pet professionals such as your veterinary team, groomer or kennel staff.

Here at Paws On The Go, I utilize this methodology as the foundation of my patient care. Here are just a few examples of how!

🐾Treats! Have many of your pet’s favourite treats
but in tiny amounts readily available. Cut them up if necessary. Your pet
likes a variety of treats? Have an assortment! Even your
cat’s canned food might do the trick. Treats should be no
larger than half a pea or a single lick. You might not use all
of them, but it is better to have too many than not enough.

🐾Delaying Mealtime. If medically appropriate, reduce the
amount of food your pet eats before a veterinary visit. This
can help make the treats at the veterinary visit more appealing.

🐾Species-specific calming pheromones. Commercially available
calming pheromones can help promote relaxation. Feliway for cats and Adaptil for dogs, are used in every visit with a spritz worn on myself as “perfume” and another coating my supply bag as an immediate safe signal to my patients. Providing mobile services also allows pets to stay in their safe space and comfort for your pet.

🐾Lots of Time and Patients. Booking plenty of time and/or splitting appointments up over multiple visits helps reduce stress on everyone but also allows us to go at the individual pets’ pace.

🐾Pre-visit Medications. In some cases, it may be recommended to try pre-visit medication prescribed by your pets Veterinarian. These medicines are a wonderful tool we use to reduce your pet’s Fear, Anxiety, and Stress (FAS) during veterinary visits. Occasionally, even with Pre-visit medications a pet’s FAS may remain too high, at which point additional medicines or trying again another day will be recommended. Many pets have reduced FAS for future visits as time goes on. Once the FAS cycle is broken, the need to utilize pre-visit medications can result in the reduction to eventually elimination of their need all together!

Meet the Owner 👋🏻
Hello! I figured since I am new to the area, let me introduce myself! I grew up in small town Cobourg about 9 hours south from here on Lake Ontario. Just like many other Ontario small towns, there wasn’t much to do beside driving around and so I couldn’t wait to leave for school and explore!

When I’m not working there is a good chance you’ll find me out in the wild with the Hubs and Pup on trails or now that its warming up, in my new to me Garden and Sunroom that I am very excited about. 🪴☀️I also enjoy nature and wildlife photography, reading and just about anything creative! 🎨
