There has been some misunderstanding of what items we can take and what we can't take ... we are so appreciative of all donations, except those that we have no room for or we can't use. These items cost us money in disposal ~ yes, we pay for that!

We always need towels of every size, hand, dish, bath, beach towels. We need cloths of all kinds, dish cloths, wash cloths, bags of clean rags (not cut from old clothing), pillow cases. Some months, we can use flannel sheets but check with us first ~ someone else may have dropped off our storage limit.

When we have none in storage, we may be able to take "cuttable" blankets and thinner comforters. We only have 1 or 2 volunteers with machines able to cut and edge these to smaller sizes 18X24 to fit our animals in the kennels. If you have the ability to cut them for us, please do so. That helps greatly!

Do you have unripped waterproof (usually outdoor) pillows? Small squares? yes, we will take these. These can be easily sanitized before use and in between animals.

What we cannot and WILL NOT TAKE at the door ... large, heavy blankets and comforters, pillows (even new as we can only use them once and they get thrown out and cost us money). WE WILL NOT TAKE used clothing, dirty clothing, dirty towels as they will be thrown out and that costs us money.

Please respect our volunteers!!!!! We have had a number of people show up this week with items we cannot take. Apparently they read a post on another group's facebook ... this post was not from SimcoeDHumane and although we love getting the word out, please share our posts or ask exactly what we need to share to others.

How you can help today? Bring us towels and cloths ~ we need those everyday!!

Your donation of pet related items, pet food (dogs, cats, rodents, guinea pigs, birds + more), litter, treats, and for the shelter pets Royal Canin Kitten and Non-clumping, Unscented Litter, will be appreciated.

By Now we have all read the news the Norfolk County will no longer be collecting recycling from Industrial, commercial, institutional properties in Norfolk County.

When you need to recycle your bottles, beer and pop cans, bring them to the shelter and help the animals in such a simple way!

Simcoe and District Humane Society does so much of the County's work without pay, without a contract, without financial assitance and relies on donations and fundraising. Without Grants for employees, the society relies on volunteers from management to kennel staff to fundraisers to event staff .... all of us!
With your bottles and cans, it is just another fundraiser to help the animals and keep the shelter running ... every $ matters!

***UPDATE TO ORIGINAL POST***
Henree was secured today in Vittoria with Livetraps. He is now definitely on his way to his forever home with his new family! No need to chase your dreams Henree, you have a new family ready to live your dreams with you! Furever!

Thanks Everyone!

Original Post
Henree was adopted from Ruffin's Simicoe this afternoon, placed into a carrier and on his way to his adopted home got nervous. His new family put him on their lap with a leash and collar but when they were ready to take him into the house, Henree decided he was taking his leave, broke out of his collar and ran down the lane. When the family tried calling him, he climb the fence and ran down the street.
He escaped from New Street, Vittoria.
He is very friendly and loves to be all over his people.
He is very food motivated and will certainly come for a good stinky can of Friskies.
Do not chase as he will run away.

Please share so we can find this guy quickly!

Happy Halloween Everyone!
Let's remember our pets today while we are all enjoying the costumes, the decorations, the noises, the candy. Let's keep our pets safe and comfortable!

Make sure pets are dressed comfortably
You don’t want Fido or Princess to be wearing a costume that restricts movement, breathing or vision. Along with making sure the outfit fits properly, you could also try a festive bandana or accessory that is easy to put on.

Make sure pets can’t access candy
Chocolate, xylitol (which is found in things like gum), raisins and other human sweets can be toxic to pets. Instead, have some pet-friendly treats prepared.

Decorate with pets in mind
Anything like open flames, small or sharp decorations or chewable or swallowable ones are a big no-no.

Have quiet space for them to retreat
Some pets may be anxious about unknown visitors ringing the door bell or any loud noises like fireworks.

Reflective gear is a must
If you’re taking your dog or cat out trick-or-treating, make sure they are leashed and can be seen in the dark.
