When people say “It’s just a horse” they just don’t understand. To label the sweet soul Sylvester carried as just a horse would be a crime. If you had the blessing to meet him you would know he didn’t have a single bad bone in his body. He was gentle and kind, old reliable with a heart of gold. He had the most peaceful presence to him every horse, animal, adult or child could feel. It’s rare to find a horse who just clicks with every soul he meets.

We lucked out with Sylvester, we can’t believe how blessed we are to have had him come into our care 6 years ago. We wish all his 37 years was spent with us, but we’re so glad we could love and care for him till his final days; which came peacefully in his sleep last week.

We truly bond with our horses, the loss is like the loss of a family member, and it takes time to feel normal again. But I’m not sure how our farm family and 4 legged friends will ever feel normal with him gone. His best buddy of over a decade can feel his loss, his buddies in his pen are asleep in his favourite sleeping spots, and staffs hearts are shattered as he was each of our favourites.
We took care of him, but he also took such good care of all of us. He was our comfort on tough days after a hard exam or life’s stressors, when you needed a warm shoulder to cry on, our first horse to check on when it rains and snows, the horse we throw everyone on without batting an eye.

We love you Sylvester❤️

If you have any pictures or memories of our cherished, perfect boy. Please share them below for our meadow ridge family and clients to see.
We would love to read and see the love everyone had for him🙏🏼

I am a lesson horse.
I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson horse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse.

I am not loved by one person. I am loved by several people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse.

I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse.

I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my families business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse.

At the end of your childs’ journey on a lesson horse, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse.

At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse.

Why do we love obstacle trianing ?
Obstacle training helps you and your horse build a trusting partnership, practicing confidence, ground manners, horsemanship, and team building.
Some of the standard obstacles used are bridges, tarps, opening gates while on the horses, tossing things into a net, walking through water or through a curtain.
A lot of these practices help your horse in many other disciplines of riding, handling on the ground, or out on a trail!

By doing things like this you build strong horse man ship alongside basics skills. The confidence the rider and horse share go hand in hand, benefiting on the ground or in saddle. It’s also a lot of fun for the rider and horse!

In the video we have one of our young up and coming lesson horses Dallas going over obstacles for the first time with one of our riders! Dallas excelled and loved it, showing no fear!

Today was one hard, long, emotional day.
8 hours, staff worked this morning on pepper, Delaney Veterinary Services Ltd. came out to see our boy when our efforts didn’t subside the symptoms, and in the end we brought him into the clinic for a fighting chance.

Pepper suffered from a strangulating (or pedunculated) lipoma which is a benign tumor that is suspended within the abdomen by a stalk of tissue. Symptoms range from mild to severe colic depending on disruption to intestinal function and blood supply. Sadly, we had to make the decision to put him down, this was the best option per vet recommendation.

Pepper was a older horse donated to us a few years ago, he came with respiratory issues and some lumps and bumps but was an incredible horse; the perfect lesson horse worth his weight in gold…
He was safe as it gets and able to teach so many riders to walk, trot canter and jump.
He was a kind soul, who we could throw anyone on and he would handle them with care.
This loss has left a massive hole in our program and hearts of our riders.
This being the most immense loss on our staff who cared for and loved our sweet pepper everyday for the last few years.

Our program is built off of senior horses and rescues, providing them a good home, care and retirements. Although they are amazing in so many ways, the downfall is the variety of health issues that come with such age and backgrounds.

Thank you over and over again to Lana Delaney at Delaney Veterinary Services who is extremely knowledgeable, honest and communicative. You and your team truly take the best care of our horses day in and out, and make the hardest process a lot easier. I’m glad everything was done to ensure of his comfort and possible recovering / diagnosis.

Pepper will be forever missed, and up in heaven with our other babies cantering in greener fields 🌈 👼🏼 💕

The ponies got their winter fluff shaved and couldn’t be happier!
Some of our minis shed out much much slower then others, so clipping them ensures they stay cool and comfortable for the summer!☀️
Some reasons for some horses or ponies struggling to drop their winter coat could be congenital abnormalities, lack in nutrition of certain vitamins like vitamin A thats found in quality hay and grass, metabolic diseases, age and more!

Today was a extremely hard afternoon for us at meadow ridge.
We sadly had to say goodbye to our beloved lesson horse Bella.
Bella came many many many years ago out of a herd of wild horses here in Alberta. Roxanne saw how special, loving and such a character she was right away; that’s how she became one of our first and favourites over the years ❤️
Even tho she was a sassy squealing dinosaur, she was a saint for the kids and only wanted their affection and riding.
We love and miss you already miss Bella, we are so grateful to have your baby and memories to carry on with.
