Heidi Peddle is a CPDT-KA certified dog trainer and the founder of Liv Better Dog Training. She has been working in the industry since 2011 and has had the pleasure of training dogs of all ages, breeds, temperaments and skill levels. Liv Better Dog Training uses science based, positive reinforcement training methods and does not permit the use of aversive tools or techniques in any of our programs

. This means we focus on rewarding things we'd to see repeated while reducing unwanted behaviors through prevention and management. We do not use confrontational training techniques, such as verbal or physical corrections and we do not use tools like choke chains, prong collars, or ecollars. This program is designed to help our clients work better together with their dogs as a team and have a whole lotta fun while doing it! Our goal has been to bring out their competitive sides, increase the difficulty with skills learned in previous classes, and inspire them to find new ways to keep having fun with their dogs when training! If you ask me, I think we friggen NAILED it! I was a little worried because I had only offered this one as an outdoor class, but we made a few small changes, had to pivot once or twice, and in the end it all came together so, so well!

💜💙💚 SEVEN whole years 💚💙💜

Liv Better Dog Training is seven years old today!! Holy moly! This past year has been the hardest one for us yet. We had/have a massive leak, lost our occupancy permit, said goodbye to our sweet Livie, our namesake, and I made the difficult decision to move away from the facility we've called home for almost 3 years - the facility with Liv's name and face attached. It has been a tough one for our little team, but it's also been one of the most rewarding, eye-opening, and inspiring years to date for me personally.

This year, I saw my clients make more progress towards their goals than any past years. They showed up for me when Liv passed, helping me surpass my fundraising goal by more than 65%. They showed me so much love and understanding. Our community voted us as the top rated dog trainer in the city for the fifth year in a row. We made so many new friends and were reunited with old ones. We celebrated victories together and supported one another through 'failures'. We laughed a lot and made a bunch of sunny memories that brightened even my cloudiest of days.

I am grateful. For the positive little community we've created. For each little doggo I've been fortunate enough to work with, for their humans and for the trust they've placed in me and the team. For the wonderful relationships I've built with local trainers and other industry professionals. For my chosen circle of family and friends. For my assistants - more family than employees. For Drew, my love. For Gabe, Louis, Cove, and Fig, my boys.

And for Liv 🩷 my best friend. Who would have been 16 today. Almost as old as I was when I brought her home for the first time. I miss her every day. I still find it hard to believe that she's gone. But I see her in Liv Better, and I'm holding on to that and the impact that she has left behind.

Here's to seven years, more to come, and the highs and lows that make the ride worth the journey ✨️

✨️🐶 Puppy Social 🐶✨️

Our Puppy Social is a 45-minute drop-in class that is aimed to supplement our Puppy Preschool program! The focus of this class is to take advantage of the crucial socialization period and help provide you an opportunity to safely and positively expose your puppy to other furry friends, and to a variety of novel sights, sounds, smells, and surfaces! This helps puppies gain experience and confidence that can help prevent future behavior issues down the road!

⏰️ Time: Tuesday, December 3rd at 5:15pm

💰 Cost: $40 (cash or etransfer)

✅️ Requirements: Pups must have 1 parvo-distemper vaccination and at least 1 dewormer at least ten days before the social. Ages 8-20 weeks.

You can attend a Puppy Social prior to or concurrent with Puppy Preschool or Private Puppy Coaching. Liv Better clients get priority booking, but all puppies are welcome to join, whether you're in classes with us or not. Please email [email protected] for more information! 💚💙💜

Figgy, Figlet, Fig Newton, Figgy Duff, Fig the Frigger! He's six years old today!! He is a silly, wiggly, noodle boy and he makes every day so much more fun! Wanna help your naughty dog secure their spot on the nice list, just in time for Santa Paws? 🎅

✨️ Feliz Naughty Dog ✨️ is a 4-week program designed to help prepare your dog for the upcoming holiday season! If we get enough interest, this one will start on Wednesday, November 20th at 6:30pm, and costs $200+tax.

Over the next 4 weeks, we'll prepare your dog to greet guests politely at the door and teach them how to relax and settle during holiday visits with family and friends. We'll introduce safe management techniques, like crate training and enrichment feeding, to set your dog up for success as needed, and we'll help condition them to fireworks and festive decor! We'll work on counter surfing and implementing safe boundaries during meals with friends, and we'll teach the dogs to be calm when the family gathers around the Christmas tree. The program is jam-packed with information and is sure to be the most fun!

They're so sweet and so, so smart! I had such a great time meeting them and can't wait to see how much they grow and progress over the coming weeks!

Saying goodbye to 40 O'Leary

This month marks 7 years in business for Liv Better. This past year has been the hardest one for me as a business owner by far - and that includes Covid. We started off with a massive leak that caused us to lose our occupancy permit and access to our facility. A few days turned into weeks, and then months. I lost thousands of dollars in equipment and even more in refunds. Finally, after four months, we were allowed back onsite and had our full occupancy permit reinstated mid-March.

Since then, we have done our best to navigate repairs, but unfortunately, it has begun affecting our services yet again. As of today, there is still water actively leaking into the facility. The floors in the gym and porch have started coming up due to water damage, and more equipment has been damaged. We are still missing baseboards, multiple lights, functioning floor drains, and a functioning bathroom fan. We are currently in our 7th week of roof repairs. Construction understandably comes with noise, but it has limited our access to evenings only - this means that I can only use the space for about 10 hours a week (or 20% of my operating hours). It means that I have to travel to clients' homes for private lessons, increasing travel expenses. It means I can't accommodate as many clients because of increased travel time. It means I can't accommodate my out-of-town clients because where can I host them? I feel like I'm right back where I started last year, and that is incredibly frustrating.

With all that said, December will be our last month at O'Leary Ave. I have put this decision off for so long because I wholeheartedly love our little space. It was truly a dream come true for me, and I know my assistants and clients love it too. But it's time to pivot and reevaluate. It's been time for longer than I'd like to admit.

All existing group classes will go as scheduled, and private lessons will continue to take place in the clients home or at a local park/pet store. This will likely mean a temporary break from offering group programs and more focus on private lessons. I am actively looking for a new space and have a couple of leads, but nothing is set in stone just yet. We don't know what the New Year will hold, but this won't be the end of Liv Better Dog Training.

A friend of mine said it best “Liv Better existed long before O'Leary and will continue to exist long after”

I promise I'll do everything I can to get us back on track, offering the quality, positive training services we pride ourselves on. We always say that our clients are the best, but you’ve proven it time and time again over the past year. Thank you for your never-ending patience and support. Me and the team are looking forward to hosting you in a new and improved space sometime soon!

🎉 Home, sweet, home! 🎉 After three months of renovations, city inspections, many, many setbacks and delays, and more scrambling and tears than I’d care to admit, WE'RE HOME! 🥹 we still have some renos to do in the spring, so things are a little rough at the moment, but we have our occupancy permit back in hand with a greenlight to resume regular business! Losing a whole quarter for a small business is HARD, the hardest thing I've gone through as a business owner to date. So we're coming back hot, opening the books for all of our programs, and planning some new classes to make up for our absence. I have daytime availability for private lessons and I've just opened a new Puppy Preschool class, two new High School Hounds classes, a new Canine College class, AND I brought back the OG, highly requested Loose Leash Walking class - all set to start later this month and early March! Our Story

My name is Heidi Peddle and I am the founder of Liv Better Dog Training. I am professionally certified by the CCPDT as a positive reinforcement, force - free, dog trainer and have been working in the industry for more than seven years. Through those years I have had the pleasure of building relationships and training dogs of all ages, breeds, temperaments and skill levels. I’ve been fortunate enough to work at high end boarding facilities, registered adoption centers, both small and large breed doggy daycare’s and even a top rated veterinary hospital. I’ve volunteered with both local and out of province rescue organizations and have successfully helped to rehabilitate many dogs previously deemed too dangerous for adoption. I have love and respect for all animals but my passion for dogs is evident in almost everything I do.

Liv Better is named after my own dog, Olivia, the 10 year old Boston Terrier. Livie or Liv, as she is affectionately known, has been my guiding light and my very best friend since the very first moment I saw her in 2008. She is sensitive, and sassy and always up for a good adventure. She’s both ridiculously needy and surprisingly independent. She is tenacious and kind and everything I’ve ever wanted in a dog and friend. She certainly didn’t come without her challenges though and each and every lesson she learns teaches me more about the type of trainer and really the type of person I hope to be. I’m so grateful for the inspiration shes given me and hope I can help all my clients appreciate their own furry family members the way I appreciate her.
