It is with heavy hearts to hear the passing of a beloved fellow chuckwagon driver Ray Mitsuing. In the world of chuckwagon racing, camaraderie runs as deep as the love for the sport itself. It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to a friend, a competitor, and a true pioneer in the field. RIP Ray. Our arms are wrapped around all of Rays family.

Our departed colleague exemplified the spirit of determination and passion that fuels this sport. Their skill and dedication on the track were matched only by their warmth and kindness off it. Whether it was sharing tips and tricks or lending a helping hand, they embodied the true essence of sportsmanship. Our arms are wrapped around all of Rays family at this difficult time.

🟢 Chuckwagon Driving Debut: 2006
❓ Did you know? Just last year, on the very first night of the Calgary Stampede's Centennial Chuckwagon celebration, Jamie broke the track record for fastest time and for the third time had a horse named to the Calgary Stampede Equine Athlete of Excellence. In 2015 Jamie was Calgary Stampede’s Safety Award winner and before he was a driver, Jamie was a Rangeland Derby Champion Outrider in 2009 and Calgary Stampede Aggregate Champion Outrider in 2010. On top of a record breaking year at the Calgary Stampede, Jamie finished the season as the reserve world champion in one of the closest races in World Championship history. Jamie is the son of former driver Brian Laboucane, and is the brother-in-law of former driver B.J. Carey and outrider Mick Nolin.

Probably my first time going in the wagon with him at spring training.

What’s one thing you learnt fast while working in the barns? You don’t have to be the fastest just do a good job.

I’d love to be an outrider one day!

Fun Fact Friday - 𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒂'𝒔 𝑬𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 Getting to know Jamie Laboucane up close and personal!!

What’s the most embarrassing miscommunication moment we’ve had? On my very first day helping Jamie do chores on the farm, he sent me to go open and close the gate for him in the tractor. He had talked me through how to close it, and it was tricky but I was so proud of myself for closing it all on my own - only to look up and see I had closed myself in the pen. Jamie just watched and laughed.

What’s advise you’d give to young couples about marriage? Never stop dating one another, no matter how busy life gets.

What does Jamie do as a pre race ritual?
He likes to be left alone to get his mind right and do some visualization. And he always poops.

Who’s a better cook? Me, but he’s a better baker.

Would you rather travel or eat for free for the rest of your life? Travel, hands down. And I’d gladly pay for all the delicious local foods on my travels.

Has Jamie ever had a pedicure? Yep, I’ve convinced him to come with me. And he’s been to our daughter’s “spa” a time or two, too.

How did you and Jamie meet? My best friend is married to his best friend, and they thought we’d make a great match. Our first date was at a local dive bar and we sang karaoke. The rest is history!

2023 runner up to the World Title, 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺.

2023 was Jamie’s first year racing in the WPCA. Jamie won the Medicine Hat show, High River’s Battle of the Foothills and the aggregate in Dawson Creek. Jamie’s left wheeler Marshmallow was also named to the Calgary Stampede Equine Outfit of Excellence and the WPCA’s equine award winner!!
