We’re honoured to support emergency wildfire relief—Pet Vet is now an official donation drop-off location!

Rescue teams have been working around the clock to care for animals affected by the devastating Manitoba wildfires. We felt compelled to do our part, and we've set up a dedicated donation table to help support their tireless efforts.

Our hearts are with the communities impacted. These donations will go directly toward helping pets and stray animals in crisis.

Organizations like Manitoba Animal Alliance, along with many others, are pouring their hearts into this response. If you’re unable to donate supplies, we’ve also included a link in our story to their fire relief donation page where you can contribute online.

Together, as Manitobans, we can make a difference. Let’s stand strong, support each other, and be a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves. 🫶

Happy Tongue-Out Tuesday from Bree! 👅🐾

This sweet and shy girl needed a little encouragement to come out of her shell—and guess what did the trick? Treats, of course! 🦴💕

Bree was an absolute star during her visit, staying calm and cooperative for her vaccines and blood draw for a 4Dx screening. ✨

What’s a 4Dx test? It screens for heartworm and tick-borne diseases like Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma. While optional, we highly recommend annual testing—especially in our area, where the risk is high. 🦟

Thanks to Dr. Stewart’s gentle, fear-free approach (and Caitlin’s expert treat dispensing), Bree’s visit was smooth and successful! 💉🐶💚

Is heartworm really that big of a deal?

✅ YES—and here’s why:

Heartworm is a potentially fatal disease spread by mosquitoes. Treatment is expensive, difficult, and stressful, especially for active dogs who need strict rest.
 📍 In high-risk areas like Steinbach, MB, prevention must start in June. Why? ➡️ Monthly preventatives work retroactively: a June 1st dose protects your pet from exposure in May.

Symptoms can be subtle: coughing, fatigue, and weight loss. But the consequences? Severe. Lung damage, heart failure, even death.

🦟 If you haven’t started prevention yet, don’t wait—every mosquito season day counts. Start now and protect your pet’s heart. ❤️

Boots had more than a little boot scootin’ going on…

We get this question a lot:
“My dog is on prevention during the warmer months—should my cat be too?”

The answer: 100% YES. ✅

Take Boots, for example. He came in with symptoms that looked like a simple ear infection, but a closer look under the microscope revealed a full-blown ear mite boogie going on in his ears! Those mites were throwing a dance party, and Boots was not invited.

Prevention is just as important for cats as it is for dogs, especially for outdoor cats. Mites, worms, fleas, and ticks don’t discriminate 🪱🦟🐜—and indoor cats aren’t off the hook either. Parasites can hitch a ride on shoes, clothing, or other pets in the home.

Our go-to feline prevention? NexGard Combo: a topical treatment that helps protect against a wide range of parasites. 💪🐱

*If your pet is already symptomatic, we may need to use a combination of treatments to clear the current infection. If one pet has parasites, all pets in the home should be treated—even if they aren’t showing symptoms.
