Fun animal fact for your Friday!

A reindeer’s eyes turn blue in winter! Scientists discovered the collagen fibres in their reflective layer pack together more tightly and start to reflect blue wavelengths of light instead of yellow, to help them capture more light during the dark winter months.

Ace is thrilled that Friday has finally arrived. Having endured a long week of work, I am now entitled to a rejuvenating break. While I will not be working tomorrow, our clinic will maintain its standard operating hours from 9 to 5. During this time, our courteous staff will be available to provide assistance with any inquiries. I extend my best wishes for a happy and safe weekend. Sincerely, Ace.

Check out our stats for November ‼️

🐾 These amount of adoptions in one month truly make our hearts swell! ❤️ Successful adoption stories and happy families remind us the hard work pays off. Remember, if you cannot adopt at this time, SHARING our posts is an awesome way to get the word out about our rescue pets who need homes.

🐾 Intake remains closed🚫 since mid-October. These numbers reflect emergency intakes or wait listed kittens from low cost mom cats. Two dogs were found, unclaimed and taken into our care.

🐾 6 feral cats were part of the Trap, Neuter/Spay, Release (TNR) program for November. Awesome!
If you see any strays around your community, make sure to check their ears for a "tip" before trapping (a slight cut across the top of one of the ears). This might mean they were already spayed/neutered by a rescue group.

🐾 31 more pets were spayed/neutered! Many of these were rescues preparing for their new homes, while the rest were animals in our low cost spay/neuter program. ❗ Need financial assistance spaying/neutering your pet(s)? Check out our ongoing Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) here for residents in the Bay St. Georgia/Peninsula area: www.swcspca.org/services-7

❣️ TRANSFERRED: We transferred 1 kitten this month to another rescue group who graciously took her to relieve us. When we work together, we are stronger for the animals! 💪🏻

Let's keep up the hard work for December and into the new year!

Feline fact Friday! Are you aware that cats possess the unique ability to rotate their ears up to 180 degrees? Not only does this enable cats to utilize their ears as a means of expression, but they can also direct their ears towards faint and distant sounds in order to hear them more clearly.

Let's consider the story of another senior Ace our clinic mascot, who faced considerable challenges in his early life, including undergoing multiple surgeries at a very young age, which rendered his future uncertain. Despite these challenges, Ace's devoted owner and veterinarian demonstrated unwavering dedication, enabling him to overcome these obstacles and lead a happy, healthy life. Now, at 12 years young, Ace is coping with arthritis and mobility issues. Fortunately, his condition is being effectively managed with monthly Cartrophen injections and Librela allowing him to maintain a good quality of life. Ace is a happy canine who enjoys accompanying his owner to work every day. Please feel free to share photographs of your senior pets with us.

As senior pet month is coming to a close, we thought we'd tell you about a very special senior: Ninja.

Ninja is Dr. Collins's cat who celebrated his 18th birthday this past summer. Ninja is mostly in good health, other than some stable chronic kidney disease and arthritis. His kidney disease is being managed with a special diet and his arthritis is being managed by Solensia injections and gabapentin. Ninja has blood work and a urinalysis done every 6 months to ensure his kidney disease is not progressing.

When he is not sleeping, Ninja enjoys being held in the arms or the laps of his humans. He is excited to celebrate his 19th Christmas next month. Santa always leaves a kickaroo toy in his stocking and a few treats.
