My Doberman pup Vinny!

This past weekend Vinny was in his first dog show! It was a UKC show hosted by Grand River Kennel Club. He won best in breed, and best in show in the novice puppy category. ( puppies under 6 months )

Hello everyone!

I had interest in my barn hunt video I posted, and am setting up barn hunt classes/ a just for fun event! I wanted to check to see which days/ time works best for people interested. Here are the dates I had in mind

Wednesday August 10th at 7:00pm
Thursday August 11th at 7:00pm

If those dates are working with your schedule I will do my best to accommodate! This can be a weekly activity for yourself and your dogs, depending on the interest.

If you are interested in signing up, you can DM me on Instagram or send me a text a 519-301-0872. It will be about an hour long, but at the end we can truly tire your pooches out by having a play together in the meadow behind the barn. The cost will be $20 per dog.

🐾Is your dog jumping up?

🐾Do you often feel frustrated and maybe even embarrassed that your dog constantly jumps up on you and guests?

🐾Dogs jump up on people in hopes of getting our attention. They often get it because, in our eyes, we are expressing frustration, but even sounding angry and pushing your dog off is giving them the attention they are seeking.

🐾What to do: When your dog jumps up on anyone, simply turn around and say nothing. The act of ignoring is not what your dog is looking for, and making this a great strategy to get this behaviour to stop.

Having your dog heel during a walk teaches them to pay attention to you during walks; it helps with pulling and puts you in the leadership position during your outings.

🐾Do you ever notice your dog turning their head to the side while you try to take a photo of them? This is their way of telling you they’re uncomfortable!

🐾Dogs turn their heads for all sorts of reasons, but when they feel uncomfortable/ uneasy about meeting a new human/ dog, this is a common coping mechanism. Dogs often use this calming signal to avoid conflict.

🐾 Bandit, the miniature long-haired dachshund! Dachshunds come in two sizes, miniature and standard. They also come in three different coat types, smooth, long, and wired. They were bred to burrow underground and hunt Vermont. They have a protruding chest to increase their vocalization…. This isn’t ideal for the now amazing family/ home-oriented dachshund, but they are truly feisty, loyal family members.

🐾 Do you ever wonder why your dog may be hesitant about you if you are wearing, say, glasses, a hat, or a different accessory than you usually do? That is because they mainly see the outline of shapes; this can throw them off.

🐾 Dogs have the instinct to track moving objects because this is their established prey tracking instinct.

🐾Also, you do not have to worry about your dog's ability to see during those middle-of-the-night p*e breaks because their eyes are naturally more adjusted to the darkness! This comes from their ancestor's need to hunt prey in the dark.

🐾Do you have a dog that chews on furniture, or any item that isn’t a dog toy while you are gone? This is often a sign of seperation anxiety in dogs! Not the dog showing “anger” while you have left for the day. A trick to help reduce anxiety in your dog is to….

🥜Add peanut butter to their KONG, and put it in the freezer overnight. ( if you have a peanut allergy, Cheez Whiz works too)

🐾10-15 minutes before you are planning on leaving, give your dog the kong. The licking of the peanut butter helps to calm the dogs nerves.

🐾Dogs really pickup on routines, and they know your pre leaving habits. The peak of their separation anxiety often sets in, while you are beginning this routine. That’s why it’s best to give the dog their KONG treat, before you are on your way out.

🐾This feisty young lady is my miniature dachshund named Naya. She is a miniature dachshund, with a Doberman sense of fearlessness and pride. The dachshund is a part of the hound group. If you own a dog a part of the hound group, you will notice their drive to catch animals during walks. They are also a very independent breed. They have their noses to the group the most, and once they pick up scents, they are very determined to track. Some other dogs a part of the hound group include….

🐾My handsome friend Ari ( who was in fact, named after Ari Gold from The Entourage) is a Rough Collie. This makes him a part of the very active herding group. Dogs that were bred for herding jobs, require lots of exercise daily. They would be happy to run all day long, therefore walks are VERY MUCH required. 🐾Hello, and welcome to Riverview Canines. My name is Natalie Hynd, and I have been a Stratford resident my whole life. I first fell in love with dogs after meeting my grandparents’ Rottweiler, Fred, at the age of 6; that is why I chose a Rottweiler in my logo!

🐾I have yet to meet a dog I don’t love, and now am choosing to spend my days with as many dogs as possible.

🐾I am currently a dog trainer, in training ( I know how bizzare that sounds, but I couldn’t phrase it any other way) and will be reinforcing dog training during our walks. I am choosing to work with one family’s dog(s) at a time, in order to provide the most for your dog(s) during my session with them.
