So we are HORRIBLE at posting and the goal is to increase our posts, so why not start it off with some beautiful kids!

Kidding 2022 is full swing for us!

Currently we are approximately half way through kidding our small herd of Pygmy and Nigerian dwarf goats with 7 kids on the ground so far. We are currently deciding on kids that will be retained vs for sale. Just wanting to get the word out about our kids and build a waiting list and see the interest in our beautiful babies.

If you have any questions about us, our does, or the kids; please message me and I’ll answer any question you may have 🙂

Here is a preview of what we have to potentially offer.

KyLand Kritters update!

Our youngest LGD, Cooper, got neutered later this week and is on as much "bed rest" as he will actually do while remaining out in the pen with some ewes. He is tied up and taking as easy as his instincts will allow him. He's already wanting to get back to his training and working.

Now for some really exciting news. KyLand Kritters has grown by one this past month. I'd like to introduce Twix. Twix is a border collie corgi cross and with working parents, we are hoping she will be our future herding dog. She is smart as a whip and at only 12 weeks, we have mastered sit, down, paw (left paw) and shake (right paw). She is demonstrating interested in the goats and sheep, so we are super excited to see what her future holds.

And thats a wrap for lambing and calving 2021 !

For sheep we ended up with 27 lambs on the ground, with an average of 2.14 lambs per ewe. It was so different lambing in during spring time as we typically lamb during the winter to produce 4H lambs. Talk about easy and stress free. This crop of lambs will be ready approximately end of June!

Every cow had a healthy calf from our small herd of cows. Two heifers and two bulls. There was some issues with our oldest cow Annabelle (14 years old) and we discovered she has a clogged milk duct and doesn't have milk for her calf so now we have a beautiful little heifer bottle calf. The goal was to get a heifer from her for her last year and we couldn't be more excited with this little calf. Now just to let these calves grow a bit before letting the girls out on pasture for the summer.

Next adventure? Kidding June 2021 ! Stay tuned for more baby pictures.

Feel free to message the page with any questions or about wanting to come out and see the place !

Well spring is officially underway at KyLand Farms. We have sold our winter crop of lambs to 4H kids and excited to see how they turn out (fingers crossed there is a show for this kids) and decided to retain 2 ewe lambs for our flock.

With spring comes babies. Lambing begins April 19th so last weekend we vaccinated and dewormed our ewes so they can pass down the immunity to their fresh babies. Along with lambing, calving begins on April 21st. With the new babies on their way, a barn cleaning is scheduled for this weekend and to get any supplies needed.

Although we are still a few months away from kidding, we have moved our goats to their own pen to be able to supply them with the extra nutrients they need due to being pregnant. We have also recently been bringing our littlest inside goat out for day visits to get use to being around other goats and so our older goats can bond with her. She still comes in for night time as its too cold for her by herself outside.

Training continues with our youngest LGD, Cooper. Our newest thing has been to go for walks to see the perimeter which he will be protecting and show him the pastures where the sheep will be once they are put on grass. An added bonus to these walks is he is getting a bunch of exercise through these walks.

We do have some exciting news coming your way and so excited to share when they are set in stone!

Welcome to the KyLand Farm page!

We are a family owned and operated hobby farm located just outside of Strathmore, Alberta. The main owners of KyLand Farms are Kylee and Landon Hebbes. Our father moved onto this property as a young child back in the 1980’s and the farm was initially ran as a cattle ranch formally known as Lantern Ridge Ranch. The cattle had to be sold off when our fathers health started to decline. Then once Kylee and Landon reached the age to join 4H, sheep were introduced to the farm and started KyLand Farm. From there KyLand added cattle back into the mixture, and our most recent adventure is goats. We also grow our own hay to feed all our livestock.

Our flock of sheep consists of 30-40 commercial ewes (depending on the year) that run with a purebred North Country Cheviot ram. The majority of the ewes are Suffolk crosses and North Country Cheviot crosses, along with 2 purebred Hampshire ewes. Currently we are lambing in two different groups. One group of ewes lamb during December 2020 to January 2021 to have some lambs ready in time for 4H members to use for their projects. Our second group of ewes lamb at the end of April 2021.

The cattle portion of KyLand is small. We currently only have a herd of 4 cows. One purebred Black Angus (Annabelle), one blue roan/black Angus cross (Suzie), one black Angus cross (Bonnie), and one Red Angus cross (Maple). We are looking at expanding in the future but for now we are a very small cattle operation. Currently we are due to start calving at the end of April 2021. Pictures will be posted when they arrive.

The latest KyLand adventure was to buy some Nigerian Dwarf and American Pygmy goats. Our herd of goats consists of 7 does and one buck. Our does are Michelle (white ND/Pygmy cross, polled), Maleficent (black Pygmy, horned), Montana (black with white frost ND/Pygmy cross, polled), Eclipse (black and white ND/Pygmy cross, horned), Sprinkles (brown tri ND/Pygmy cross, horned), Orchid (brown tri ND/Pygmy cross, polled), and lastly our newest addition Kali (black with white frost ND, horned?). Our buck is Mikey (white, tan and black Pygmy, horned). Kids are expected early June 2021. We are still learning everyday about these little critters and will update information as our knowledge improves.

Our email address is [email protected] or you can private message the group directly. We encourage people to reach out with any questions.

Coffee is always on for anyone that would like an interactive tour of a small farm operation.
