Anyone want to play ball?
Cleo is always up for a good game of fetch which when ready to adopt will be one of her top 5 requirements- "a forever family who likes to have fun".
Cleo arrived earlier this week into our care via shelter transfer as what we thought was going to be an intake appointment and place for adoption kind of scenario. However would we really be Happy's Place with super easy dogs 😆.
During her intake appointment her bloodwork and 4dx test diagnosed her as being Lyme positive with some higher than normal renal values, along with some icky urine. The kicker (and where it brings us to the world of unknowns) is that the puzzle pieces just don't fit. Is the icky urine causing the rest? Or is it the Lyme? Or...
An ultrasound took place, we are waiting for results & treatment has begun as we disect things piece by piece.
The good news, she is otherwise a beautifully healthy dog who loves to snuggle, is great with children, cats, and dogs of all sizes. Cleo loves the car, she's amazing on leash, and adores both the snow and playing too.
Cleo is a complete gem. (And also totally adorable too).
Updates coming soon.
Welcome to Happy's Place Cleo!

A HUGE thank you to our friends over at Paws at Peace for their recent donation of $2500.00 to help with foster dog Corky's care.
Corky, one of 5 very neglected chihuahuas who came into care having never been outside before in her entire life (used for breeding via backyard breeder), required up to date vetting, a spay, a dental, and a cystotomy to remove painful bladder stones in order to become adoption ready. This incredibly generous gift has helped to provide Corky with the cost of her entire spay, cystotomy & intake appointment. This will provide the opportunity to live the life she's always deserved.
Paws at Peace is a small family-run mobile clinic that only offers in-home end-of-life clinic serving London, Strathroy, St. Thomas, Ingersoll and surrounding areas. There team is dedicated to honouring our beloved pets and cherishing the human-animal bond that we are so fortunate to have.
Thank you for helping Corky to have a much happier & healthier Christmas this year.
And ps- with her dental also complete, Corky herself will be adoptable just as soon as our holiday closure is complete. (DEC 30).
THANK YOU PAWS AT PEACE ❤️.

Love wins. And it helps every day miracles to happen.
Did you know that we run a palliative program within our rescue called "I'm already home" ❤️. This program provides continuous care to dogs with very high or complex medical needs. The dogs stay in their foster home (everything paid for by the rescue) for the duration of their life.
This program is so special to me because it's the reason this entire rescue started. When I brought Happy home so many years ago now, with all of his medical issues we were told he didn't have long ahead of him.
But I didn't care.
Why? Because I knew that love can't tell time. And I already loved him with my whole heart. Even before I met him.
It just meant that I needed to pack an entire lifetime of belonging, snuggles, new experiences and adventures into a shorter time. And that "not long"- it turned out to be 14 incredible months together.
It also turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Why?
Because it lead me to where I am now ❤️.
My time with Happy- I never viewed it as "too short", but instead focused on the present and the knowledge that each day together- it was an amazing gift.
The beautiful fosters we have who hold space for these very special dogs, they make room in hearts and in their homes to love a comfort care dog as they would their very own until it is time to say those final goodbyes.
Often within this program, incredible things happen. Because these dogs, they blossom. And it's somehow that whatever they face ahead, it just does not matter. Because love & finding happy exist.
And these "timelines" of the imminent end, they become blurred.
These 3 currently with us- they continue to defy odds. Over and over again. Weeks, they turn into many, many months.
Because love wins.
Toffee- 6 months.
Coco- 10 months.
Bella 12 months.
And counting ❤️.
This is what taking a chance looks like. It looks like Finding Happy 😊.

I am extremely happy to announce that our sweet Eadie the honourary senior puppy has officially packed her suitcase, been adopted and is off to her new life.
Thank you from the bottom of my whole heart to those of you who made donations, shared her story, cheered her on, and wanted to make her a part of your forever. I am incredibly grateful to you all and am deeply touched by the things that this wonderful community does when working together.
Each of you give me hope that we can do whatever we set our minds too. Together ❤️.
YOU are making a difference out there.
YOU are amazing 👏.
5.5 years ago when I set out to open Happy's Place, I honestly thought, well, maybe we'll rescue a few dogs and do some cool things.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever even begin to imagine the opportunity I would be gifted in volunteering alongside of so many amazing people who ALL know that not only do old dogs ROCK, but that once in a while you'd help me to support a wee pup who needed a second chance.
Happy new life and adventures Eadie.
Happy adoption day ❤️
Ps- stay tuned over the next couple of weeks as we continue to welcome more than another dozen SENIOR dogs into our care from all across Canada 🇨🇦. I can't wait for you to meet them all ♡♡♡.

It's Dori ❤️.
6 year old Dori is the one you've been waiting for! Amazing with children and other animals, this adorable 28 pound gal is both the life of the party when you need her to be paired with perfectly chill houseguest manners as well.
And yet Dori was at risk of euthanasia in shelter due to lack of medical funds/resources and overcrowding issues.
Dori is a WONDERFUL dog. Dori did unfortunately get transferred to us with a yucky surprise in tow- a respiratory infection... so off she went urgently to our clinic to be seen as soon as she arrived.
The good news here is that with antibiotics now on board, this pint sized lady is already back to shenanigans & is loving foster care. She's heading back for her recheck next week and we will book her in for a spay as soon as the holidays are over too.
Thank you to the following individuals who will help Dori to get her second chance.

Did you catch us at the Merry Market 100 Kellogg Lane this year? Our Ambassador dogs had a blast (and so did our volunteers). We can't wait to see you all again next year.
What a great way to de-stress mid holiday prep- senior dog snuggling ❤️.
Shout outs to our amazing volunteers for giving up some of their own time to connect with our communities and spread awareness about senior dog adoption too.
Because senior dogs ROCK!

To be loved.
To be cared for.
To belong.
This is all any dog wants. We are honored to be that soft place for older dogs to fall when those around them have let them down.
This is their chance to begin again.
A fresh new chapter.
Healing both mentally and physically.
New adventures await.
Happy's Place family, please meet Alice.
Found as a stray and not reclaimed, Alice was transferred into our care via Ontario shelter recently and she's working hard on healing right now. Her spirit- it's a beautiful one. And although she's tired, her ability to love those around her unconditionally remains strong.
Alice has been neglected for a long while. Spondylosis of the spine, unspayed, unkept nails which make it harder to walk, unwell,
and skin/ears in terrible condition. Sadly, she's most likely been left behind.
When our vet notes- this one she's got a lot going on. That's the stuff that makes my heart hurt. Because it's all fixable. Just previously, no one did...
To have infected red & raw skin hurts. To be unwell for a long while, it is exhausting.
Alice is incredibly sweet, and she deserves the world.
Welcome to Happy's Place ❤️.

🎉 THANK YOU for your incredible support! 🎉
We’re thrilled to share that our wine fundraiser with Cave Spring Vineyard raised an amazing $676.66 for the senior dogs of Happy’s Place! 🐾🍷
As we toast to this success, let’s remember that every bottle poured was more than just wine—it was love, care, and hope for our senior pups. Cheers to that! 🥂🐾
Stay tuned for more exciting ways to support Happy’s Place and our mission. Together, we’re making tails wag and finding seniors their happy 🐕✨

When this face is staring back at you from the shelter photos, how the heck can you say no?
Well of course we couldn't, so please welcome Oma to our rescue ❤️.
Oma sees our vet clinic today for her head to tail check and we will plan for her next steps. She loves everything and everyone 💕 so when she's ready to go you're not going to want to miss out.
Oma will be hanging out with her foster family over the holidays while we get to know her better and complete all necessary vetting.
She needs a dental in a BIG way and arrived with a UTI so we will continue to investigate this too. She will also need her vetting brought up to date and be spayed as well.
Little Oma was transferred to our rescue via Ontario shelter as an unclaimed stray.
We are so grateful for the partnerships we have all across Canada. Since most shelters are over full and do not have the funds/resources to provide intensive & costly medical care, these relationships ensure good dogs like Oma here get their second chance. Because our Happy's Place community, they always step up!
Thank you to the following individuals for helping Oma to find her happy. These donations will provide for her spay as well as complete intake appointment too ❤️.

Hazel is free after life spent on a chain outdoors for 9 whole years because you helped us to say yes to her rescue.
Hazel loves the indoor life, all things cozy, and is an all around wonderful girl.
She craves human attention and snuggles.
She's house trained, well mannered, and travels well in the car. She's even great to stay alone while you work.
Can't adopt? Share our post and leave her a comment instead.
Hazel's forever after. ♥️ let's do this.
12/16/2024
Hazel- 9 years- female- 46 pounds
Hey Northern dog friends, this is THE dog for you! Why? Because Hazel is absolute perfection!
-LOVES people of all ages- extremely social and affectionate
-excellent house manners & very polite
-great with children
-loves affection and is a very calm and gentle girl
-Great with other dogs- excellent dog manners & is a good team player! Her bestie is a younger male dog but she lives with multiple canine friends
-loves to walk & is excellent on lead (great mobility)
-Hazel is looking for a family who likes to have fun just like her
-house trained
-crate trained (but doesn’t need it)
-travels well in the car
-good to stay alone while you work
-sleeps through the night on a dog bed
-No cats please- they are way too fun to chase!
-If you live in an apartment it will be important to Hazel to have lots of outdoor time to explore and walk and have running around time so a plan of some sort should be in place- but since she's a quiet gal- she is shared wall friendly!
-Hazel has spent her first 9 years of life as an outdoor tied dog so she appreciates the finer things in life now including the comforts of a cozy bed, lots of pets from people, & being free to move around.
-Medical: a healthy and spayed girl. Hazel has excellent teeth. A tumor was removed from her side- grade 1- slow grow, not spreading however, with it's location there were dirty margins & it may or may not grow back at some point in her life ( very low chance of this but possible).
Hazel is currently being fostered in Caledon ON and is $500.00 to adopt.

Meet 8 year old Balou! He's charming, super sweet and equally as handsome too.
Dog and cat friendly? You betcha! This guy loves to soak up all the pets and snuggles he can too. And!! He's even already neutered too!
So how the heck did this FANTASTIC fellow end up in shelter as an unclaimed stray? This is when we really wish dogs could talk. Because oh the story they might tell.
Balou who weights in at a whopping 107 pounds is truly the sweetest and most affectionate soul. He's just a big mellow guy who's looking for love. And when his vetting is complete, he's going to make the best forever friend around.
Thank you to the following individuals who when working together will help Balou to find his happy again by supporting him while in our care:

Hey Happy's Place community- want to help one of our very own Happy's alumni find their face on Hounds of Erie Winery 's newest wine label?
That's right! Our very own Big Lou has made it into the TOP 5 finalists and now it's public voting time!
Let's show them we all want to see a Happy's Place adopted dog as their newest model!
Ps- did you know that this amazing winery has its own dog park for your dogs to hang out WITH you while you enjoy the tastiest of beverages! We stopped by this past August on rescue dog day and had a blast. All of the bevies we tried were absolutely delicious too so we highly recommend!
Dogs and wine- what could be better ❤️.
Click on the link and leave a comment on their original post voting "BIG LOU".
Ps- you can't go wrong no matter who gets your vote because they're all so stinkin cute!

Please welcome 10 year old wonderful Winnie to Happy's Place.
Winnie has actually been hanging out here for a while but truth be told I was waiting for one of our amazing vet techs Robyn to send me some adorable photos of Winnie to help announce that she's here.
Yep- not only do Robyn and the Lakeview Animal Hospital team totally rock with the care they provide to each of our senior dogs but we also get the cutest photos sent our way from their first visits too.
And my oh my- Winnie you are sooooo cute!
Winnie, who was transferred into our care from an Ontario shelter as an unclaimed stray has a laundry list of medical attached. Luckily it's all fixable stuff & at only 10, this tiny lady is barely into her retirement years.
*a very firm mass below her bum to be removed (& sent for testing)
*needs dental - probably full mouth as lots have sadly already fallen out (rotten)
*needs a spay
It's a big surgery day coming up this Tuesday & then we'll get to her recheck once healed. You can look for Winnie to be adoption ready after our break.
Shout outs to the following individuals who will help Winnie to find her happy:
Queens Line Automotive In Rodney Ontario

And to Paulina & Gary who celebrated their wedding back at the end of September who made a lovely donation in lieu of favours. Congratulations ❤️
Onwards & upwards little Winnie. Amazing things await ♡.

Applications to adopt these dogs are currently closed. Please consider adopting another senior dog instead.
What's better than one happy's dog? Why TWO of course! And at only 8 pounds a piece it's pretty much like one dog instead LOL.
-Super snuggly and sweet
-love their walks and are great on leash
-love to eat!
-love to run and play
-Katie does stairs on her own, Jingles would like to be carried as he feels a bit nervous of stairs
-Katie is the most brave of the two. Jingles loves his sister a lot and takes a wee bit to not be so shy.
-apartment friendly
-excellent in the car
-good with children
-good with other dogs of all sizes (but sometimes Jingles can be a bit bossy with the largest dog in the home at times)
-good with cats
-they sleep in bed with their foster now but slept in a dog bed together in their previous home
-Both dogs are housetrained to use a p*e pad via their previous home. Jingles will also do his business outside too with the other dogs.
Medical:
Katie- healthy and spayed. Dental done November 2024. Katie does have dry eye so requires drops done twice a day for life. These will be about 100.00 per 6 weeks. Upon arrival, Katie had a higher liver value which is coming down well & most likely attributed to her previously rotten mouth. She had 39 extractions and has 3 teeth left.
Jingles-Healthy and neutered. Dental done December 2024. Jingles via ultrasound shows 1 kidney is smaller than the other which may have been since birth. His renal values are normal. He has been placed on an inexpensive medication to help remove a bit of protein from urine (the rest of urine is normal).
This wee duo is not to be missed. Currently fostered in London ON, their adoption fee is $850.00 for the pair.
12/13/2024
Applications to adopt this dog are currently closed. Please consider adopting another senior dog instead.
Belle- 9 years- female- 38 pounds
Described as "this is such a NICE dog" by everyone who meets her, Belle is truly is, as her name suggests, the belle of the ball. And she's ready for YOU to welcome into your home right now!
-super sweet and affectionate
-eager to please and loves people of all ages
-great with children
-very snuggly and cuddly
-gentle and excellent house manners
-apartment friendly
-loves to go for her walks, great mobility and is great on leash
-house trained
-great with dogs of all sizes
-cats are an unknown and are different when inside however outdoors she does get excited by a rabbit or squirrel that she sees in the yard
-Belle loves to be cozy and snuggle with her foster momma in bed but will also do a dog bed instead. Sleeps through the night.
-excellent dog manners- will play as well as be calm- reads dogs well
-Belle's new home will need to keep low counters clean when you're away from home because she may be a surfer when she's bored (same with the garbage) but when you're home- she's the perfect houseguest & never gets into trouble. Belle hangs out safely in her foster mom's room having a nap to keep those pesky paws from being up to no good when you're out.
-Medical- a healthy spayed (November) dog.
Belle has a mild dermoid in her left eye since birth- nothing needs to be done for this.
Belle does have two super small nodules (1/2 cm) on one teat that have remained the same size- an adopter can continue to monitor.
Belle had a dental December 2024.
Belle is currently being fostered in London ON and is $500.00 to adopt.

We are incredibly grateful to the awesome folks who make up the Miss Dixie's Foundation. These are hard working people who do so much to help out their communities (both people and rescues). This time we were lucky enough to head on over and fill the entire back of volunteer Kristen's car with delicious food to support our senior dogs! How amazing is that.
Thank you to Kristen for not only picking up but then driving all over to make sure our various supplies locations were set. Thank you to volunteer Christine for donating the truck pick up fee (so generous) and of course thank you to our supplies locations for keeping your personal garages stocked!
Through the Miss Dixie's Foundation, we are able to focus putting more monetary donations into medical care instead of food.

Only 6 weeks ago Eadie was at risk of euthanasia in shelter due to her medical complexities. Now- on her way to better days and new chapters.
And soon, a forever family awaits.
Looking to adopt? You can look for Eadie's entire bio & posting here on our socials this Wednesday morning where she will begin accepting applications and be ready to go once properly healed (and had a recheck with her surgeon too).
New beginnings for Eadie- it's a wonderful day.
Perspective is a curious thing isn't it?
I'm so grateful for my parents who taught me growing up that anything is possible & most importantly- you should ALWAYS take a second look at things before conclusions are drawn.
This knowledge has served me well in many areas over the years but honestly none so often as in rescue. Because sometimes we just need to look at this a little bit differently ♡.
10 year old Elvis (who originally came into an Ontario shelter as an unclaimed stray), arrived into our care quite urgently because he was suddenly considered unadoptable due to a heart murmur discovered post dental surgery & now faced a looming euthanasia deadline appraching at the speed of a freight train. And although this might sound dramatic- it's because it is.
Let's roll this back a bit. This shelter- they did 100% do awesome things for Elvis. They even provided him with dental care to freshen up those pearly whites. But placed on the adoption floor, & no one coming for him (lack of space) combined with this new murmur (lack of resources) & red flags/end of the road suddenly appeared. In ONTARIO. Not other parts of the world. RIGHT HERE.
We NEED to empty our Ontario shelters. Our dogs need OUR help.
And Elvis, with his vetting updated at our own clinic as well as xrays for that heart- diagnosis- a mild murmur, NO Enlargement, NO meds needed. Completely typical for a dog his age. Oh- we did give him a little Librela injection for some mild arthritis (also typical for his age too).
This is NOT a dog who should have been facing euthanasia. But the crisis due to lack of space for shelter pets across ONTARIO is real.
Together, let's do better.
And the dog- one happy, playful, zoomy hound.
He also happened to he a highly sought after ADOPTABLE dog here ❤️
This is the story of how a dog named Elvis got his second chance. The dog who now lives among alpacas, doing all kinds of houndy things. The dog who because we were able to say YES, will have MANY happy
Happy's Place family, we need all hands on deck please as foster puppy Eadie needs YOU!
To catch you up-A few weeks ago a little shelter pup was brought to my attention who was at risk of euthanasia due to lack of funds/resources (originally found as a stray). A 4 month old baby. And I could absolutely NOT let that happen. And so our senior rescue, we got a puppy.
Eadie was seen today by London Emergency & Referral Hospital & we left there feeling really good!
What we know now is that in a nut shell, from the outside- Eadie was born with some unique anatomy where both her anus & vulva are in the same hole rather than two separate spaces. You could actually compare this part to a cleft palette & it IS fixable. This would eliminate constant infections & painful ulcerated areas & greatly improve her quality of life.
Before doing so, we MUST do a CT scan to determine what the inside parts look like, & where they all go/connect (urethra, bladder, female anatomy). Once we know that part, if more is needed, we can provide her with this reconstructive surgery too. This will also help us sort out her incontinence. Again improving quality of life.
Her CT scan is booked for November 21st & a current estimate attached. The high end being $2861.00 is what I'm hoping to fundraise- anything extra will go towards the actual surgery itself.
The Eadie I know, she's full of beans & zoomies. She's simply amazing & will someday (hopefully soon) make an incredible family member for someone out there. She's amazing with young children too.

Together ❤️- it's how we do this.
Our Jonesy continues to look for his best fit family.
Life was not always easy for this very handsome fellow. Found originally as an unclaimed stray, we pulled him from a shelter euthanasia list on the exact day he was to be euthanized because there was just something about him.
When Jonesy first arrived into our care he was incredibly sick. He has spent months becoming healthy again & has so much love to share. His favourite things in life? Belly rubs, snuggles, and loving you ❤️.
Jonesy is a fan favourite at our vet clinic, and his fosters simply adore him too. He even made a recent appearance at one of our community events and of course, you guessed it- everyone LOVES Jonesy.
Applications (and full bio details) available on our website at www.happysplace.ca.
Will you be the one to say "I choose you".
Pierrot
Happy's Place family, meet the AMAZING Pierrot ♡♡♡.
This fabulous chap arrived into care via Canadian shelter transfer after having been surrendered. He must have been a loved boy because he knows all the ins and outs around snuggles, sofa naps and travels well.
Pierrot loves to run and play and loves his walks too. He's awesome with cats and dogs of all sizes and loves children as well.
He's a healthy fellow who's been neutered and has a fresh set of pearly whites thanks to a recent dental.
Oh yeah- one other thing about Pierrot- he's also blind (most likely from birth)
He sure doesn't let it bother him and he hopes no one else will too.
Pierrot navigates new environments with ease, and can do everything pretty independently with no worries at all.
Pierrot is just as capable of any other dog and he's here to set things straight. Old dogs AND dogs with special needs- they ROCK!
AVAILABLE SOON!

Their family is out there & they need YOU To help us find them ♡♡♡.
Every person seems to have a story of a special dog they once knew. A favourite memory, an adorable head tilt, or the unique way your dog captured your heart forever. Almost five years ago now, we met a little blind senior rescue dog who needed a place to be loved and to live out his golden years for whatever time he had left. And even though he was down on his luck, that little tail never stopped wagging. And so, we named him Happy. Little did we know then, that this little senior would change the course of our entire lives and lead us to where we are today.
Happy showed us how to live life every single day to the fullest. He loved fiercely and let that happy shine so bright that every person who met him fell in love with him. Happy didn’t ever let anything slow him down. Even without his sight he enjoyed walks around town, hiking in the woods, and playing with squeaky toys. He loved dinner time and snuggling with his furry siblings and could always be found on the lap of a close by human. Throughout the year that he spent with us before crossing over the bridge, Happy went to the beach, met new friends, stopped at a bakery, picked out the biggest bone all on his own, let his fur flow in the wind during the best country breeze car rides, and he completely changed our lives. Happy showed us that love wasn’t something you could see, but rather something you felt with your heart. And as a family, we watched him blossom. Happy taught us many lessons, but most importantly, Happy taught us about the value of senior dogs and helped us to invent our second chance motto to always “find your happy”.
Happy’s legacy continues to live on through the other seniors we have loved throughout the last 5 years. Eddie, Pippin, Ruthie, Gladys, Fonzie, Clooney, Ernie, Lily, Fez, Stewart, Shirley, Wyler, Addy, McGregor, Frankie, Elvis, Matilda, and Pheobe, and in each of the beautiful senior dogs that we haven’t even met yet. Happy’s legacy will live on because of each person who also believes in the amazing love of a senior dog.
The story of Happy’s Place Retirement Home for Dogs is one that will continue to unfold throughout the years, the story of how one little senior dog came into the lives of an ordinary family of four and started them all on this amazing journey into a world of bucket list adventures, second chances and truly helping each one of them to find their happy. We hope you continue to fall in love and enjoy following along with these little senior faces as much as we do. Welcome to Happy’s Place. #findyourhappy
