Atlas vs 4 of his sisters.
Smart pups. They all completed their Novice Trick Titles by the time they turned 5 weeks old. And this earned Mom, Joule, her Register of Merit. Atlas, the little guy looking for his perfect partner, got his as well but won’t be registered for it, until he has a home.
All the puppy pairings have been determined and that leaves Atlas looking for his partner. He’s going to be a bigger boy, medium coated and beautifully marked, with a tri front leg. Temperament wise he reminds me a lot of his dad, Rhys. He loves people; sometimes he can’t settle down to “work” without first having cuddles and climbing on my lap and more cuddles. He climbs onto any lap for a nap. He’s also got Rhys’s bit of a goofy personality. As a trainer once said to me about Rhys, “ how could you ever correct him, he’s just so goofy”. Not that he doesn’t love to work but he always finds the lighter side to life. Atlas definitely won’t be an over the top Border Collie. He is already a focused and powerful tugger. The short video is his first time in this room and with no other dogs for moral support. I love that he engaged, said hi to me, saw something of interest and then re-engaged. He even did his first retrieve. Check out this video. He has his novice trick title already. Please feel free to share this post.
Our first attempt at recalls. I’ve been setting them up for success, by calling “ pup, pup” when I put food down, making a fuss when they come to me with the other training we’ve been doing and building their focus on me. This is a huge step; solo, carried downstairs to a big space( they have been down there twice but with the litter and Joule), lots of space to go elsewhere and things to check out. Solo makes it potentially much scarier. I was very impressed. The feed dish is to distract them while I get 10’ away.
At this point there is one pup available. I won’t know which one until early March but if all proceeds as planned, Pandora and Leda are spoken for.
Four weeks old and learning fast. They all do 4 paws in a box. Nose target and sit are coming along.
I got this for my workouts but it seems to be a big hit.
Everyone is into gruel now, especially Ariel who smells it coming, even in a deep sleep. Slowly starting to use pee pads and will get switched to pellets in a while. The older dogs can go along the perimeter and say hi. Sasi was even nosing her grandma, despite grandma telling her off in no uncertain terms. The start of learning proper doggy etiquette.
They remind me of Tim bits hockey. They go for each other, at a snail’s pace, fall over, roll, get up and continue to chase. They “bite” with no teeth. And then they quickly run out of steam and nap.
Two weeks old and a huge increase in their ability to navigate compared to one week ago.
A video compilation to showcase some Rhys pups in trial settings, and a few in training. His pups range from 3.5 yrs to Zenith, who at 10.5 months, is in training for obedience. His pups are very versatile, doing well in agility, disc, herding and tricks. Check the next post for an announcement…………
In a first for one of out pups, Rhyme( Rhys x Jas) with Suzanne, is going to be doing disc. They entered in the Maritime Cup, Womens Furthest Catch, where 11 month old Rhyme came second, despite not doing the final throw because of his age. I’ll have to learn more about this sport.
Today’s shout out is for Arran (Jagger x Jas, 3.0) and Annie. This handsome fella has some serious speed as well, clocking 7.58 yds/sec in his advanced jumpers, and he’s only 19 months old.
I’m being sent lots of fantastic videos of our young dogs showcasing their training. Today’s feature is Cayo ( Rhys x Jasmine, 11 months old). Looking awesome; going to be another team to watch.
Thrilled with Maverick’s (Jagger x Jasmine 2.0) performance. He and Ana Mrksic entered their first starter standard trial and came away with this amazing Q, (SCT 63 sec, Mav 24.71 sec). Mav has his Dad’s excellent thoughtful, mind and control and his Moms crazy speed.
I’ve been very interested to watch Rhys as he develops in his training. I found him very biddable as a pup and young dog and I’m hearing the same reports about his pups. I’ve also been wondering when he would figure out that agility trials are fun. Byron and Rhys ran their sixth run at Animoosh this past weekend. Byron doesn’t know much about agility and has practised at home only a bit, so as to understand the manoeuvres, such as a front cross. Yet despite a novice handler, Rhys tries his best and forgives late cues and tries to get himself into position for the next obstacle. Though occasionally he does tell Byron, when they have messed it up. And Rhys has decided that this is fun. He’s flying and every trip out seems faster. Their time on the standard run, 43.81, allowed time 66. I deducted the 6-7 seconds( it actually was that long for the missed threadle to the tunnel) and their time is more like 36-37 seconds, just over half the allowed time. The results picture is in the comments.
Plans are in the works for you the second RhysxCaisey litter this fall.
My Rhys xJas pup, Raina. Go gamble girl. 9.5 months.
