Pep In His Chex “Banjo” handled himself amazingly in the Cow work at the NARCHC Snaffle Bit Futurity! Cows were big and waspy! But Banjo worked smart and stayed in good position earning a score of 133.5 down the fence.

For a team that hasn’t worked together they sure came together to put together one dang good run in the team doctoring with a time of 2:30. Sure proud of this team.
Willow and Austin working the head rope for the wild cow milking
“Ross” figuring his shoulders out, and then showing off his big stop. This gelding is in his second month with us, and we are excited to see how much he progresses everyday.
Austin showing “Jimmy” this sweet Clyde cross how to move his shoulders around while staying soft in the face and body
Austin loping around on “chad” working on his difficult lead, this colt is coming towards to end of his first month with us.
“Rosie” showing off his flag work for his owner before going home yesterday
A little clip of Xena (RHR Smoaky Survivor).
She is going be all you could ever ask for in a ranch horse! Calm, quiet and athletic!
Xena sells June 3rd at the Ranch Horse Round Up Sale. Shoot me a message if you’d like to come check her out beforehand.
A forward horse typically has troubles learning the sidepass and back up, Ash struggled the first day or two but is now dang near a pro, and loves to show off how good she is.
Ash showing off what a smart girl she is loping around the arena for her second time. Ash has been such a fun filly to train on she’s so athletic and willing to learn
My job around here these days seems to be taking pictures and videos and bragging about Cassie and Austin’s work… yeah… I’ve got it pretty darned good!!!
Here’s Cassie, doing her thing with Ash, a 2 yr old running AQHA filly. This is her first week of training and her first time being saddled. She handled it great and moved out nicely. At this point, we don’t sweat the small stuff… she may have been cross firing, but it won’t last… this naturally athletic filly is going to have it figured out in no time!
Thanks for sending us another great prospect Linda!
Around here, we absolutely love watching the confidence grow in these youngsters… it’s the reason we do what we do!
Jess’ filly showed up here having been sent home from a previous trainer… she was nervous, jumpy and always feeling like she needed to be racing around… not exactly a pleasure to work with! She took Austin a little longer to start than a colt normally does, but his knowledge, soft hand and patience sure pulled her through.
3 yr old stallion owned by Pitchfork Valley Ranch, first time in a busy arena, first time playing with the rope, and first time on the heelomatic.
This little guy is going to be an awesome all around mount!
Austin showing Ellie the ropes (🤣🤣🤣 pun totally intended!)
With two weeks left to go on this filly, we are pretty confident that Jess is going to be pretty darned thrilled with her ride when she gets home!!
Austin Nash trying out CD LOOKIN AT ESCORTS, our coming 4 yr old stud Sue.
I can see these two getting along real nice in the future… Sue has limited time under saddle and very few rides in the indoor… he went in calm and ready to work… Austin had him flexing and starting to set that rump in the dirt by the end of their ride.
I always enjoy watching knowledgeable hands and patient trainers work!
Yesterday we took a couple of the colts in to the arena to hang out while we were setting up for todays halloween obstacle course.
Here is Cassie riding Johnny, who is just coming into his third week of training, he is a 2 yr old AQHA appendix gelding. This willing youngster will be looking for a new postal code upon completion of his months training 🤠
Cassie putting the first ride on my good friend Veronica Bedard’s beautiful 2 yr old filly.
I actually can’t wait to see how this filly comes along, she already walks over the tarp and bridge like she owns them… typical of the Hawkey nature Quinn is bold and beautiful! 🤣
Shiner… 4th ride
Cassie reviewing his yesterdays lesson and then took him out down through the hayfield. Time to get this willing colt out of the round pen and let him move out and learn to handle a little!
I always felt that there was nothing more rewarding than knowing that I could turn out a nice mannered, confident and responsive colt… but I was wrong.
It turns out that knowing I turned out daughters that are capable of doing so, IS much more rewarding ❤️
Here is Cassie working Pitchfork Valley’s young new stud. Kevin, Anne Nichol and Sara Nichol have sent me some of the nicest colts I’ve ever started, and have been among my favourite clients for years… we were thrilled when they decided to send Shiner to us for his start, and I wanted Cassie to have the opportunity to work with him. He is bred to do what she loves, and built just the way she likes them. She is doing a fantastic job and has done well recognizing amd rewarding his try.
Cass putting the first ride under saddle on Shiner. This is his 6th day in training and we had hoped to put his first ride on him yesterday, but he told us that one more day of ground work and confidence building wouldn’t hurt. I’d say he was right.
We did not ask him for a lope, but I’m sure he would have taken it if we had. Tomorrow is a new day, and he can lope out then… today we were happy enough with his low headset and his willingness to move out and still stay soft.
The battle is not a one and done… we’ll chip away, laying a foundation that has no holes and Shiner will go home doing just that… shining! 🤠
Cassie, ending a good day with the Major Man, her 2021 AQHA working cowhorse prospect.
The draw this colt has and the desire in him to please is so exciting!
We’re happy with the way he’s filling out and with his fun personality!
Penny, 2 yr old AQHA filly belonging to Veronica Bedard. Nice to see the quiet eye and feel how soft she is.
Johnny is learning to pay attention and focus on his handler. Day 3 here with us for this 2 yr old appendix AQHA gelding, and we’re impressed with how he’s coming along. It was a bit of a shocker for him to go from his relaxed home and be dropped into our “BOOT CAMP”
We will be posting many videos of this youngster as his training progresses, he will be looking for a new postal code upon completion of his 30 days!
Cassie here is prepping Shiner for his first saddling. A little ground work sets the cards in our favour, and he saddled up and moved out nicely!
What a windy day, not exactly the most fun to be out starting new colts in, but we’ve got to say, the experience is a good one for them!
