Paisley has outgrown her winter coat and I had to put her in Tatum’s old one. She is so tiny (she is on the low end of the standard for PWD), that I had to tie the straps with rubber bands so that it would fit her properly.

Portuguese Water Dogs are hypoallergenic with fur that is more like hair than fur. They need a little help with our Northern Ontario winters but they love snow and are highly adaptable to living here.

Our first litter is expected next year in the Fall 2023 or Winter 2024. Stay tuned to our page for some exciting milestones.

When I bought my first pure bred dog, the breeder had a lot of questions for me. I thought it was weird and a little off putting.

Now that I am on the other side, it makes sense!! A reputable breeder will always take the dog back therefore it’s in my (and the puppy’s) best interest that the person,family buying the dog will provide a good home and be a good fit for the breed.

A Portuguese Water Dog isn’t for everyone and it’s my duty to find the right human for my pups.

If you are interested in getting a puppy from Baker Lake Pride, please expect to answer a few questions. I promise it’s for a good cause and you’ll thank me later when your rambunctious puppy turns into a lifelong member of the family.

Great News! Both Rafael and Paisley's final DNA results came back clear/normal. Juvenile Dilated Cardiomyopathy (JDCM) Linked Marker - DNA and Microphthalmia Syndrome (MOS-PWD) - DNA

Next is Rafael's xrays. Booked for end of April.

Responsible Breeders require signed contracts from new owners to return any animal should they not be able to keep it.

Responsible Breeders and their parent breed clubs are the original founders of Rescue operations as a safety net for their beloved breeds. Please share far and wide! You never know which dog’s life you might save!

The 6th Annual Canine Addison’s Awareness Week is here! This week, we celebrate my dog & all the other dogs around the world who have Addison's disease.

If not diagnosed and treated in time, Addison’s disease can be fatal. But with proper & timely treatment, dogs can live long, normal, active, happy, and healthy lives!

The symptoms of Addison's disease may be vague at first, sometimes waxing and waning for months. You might see one or more of the following:

• Lethargy
• Lack of appetite
• Weight loss
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea, sometimes with blood in the f***s
• Exercise intolerance
• Frequent drinking or urination
• Dehydration
• Hind end weakness
• Tremors or shaking
• Collapse
• Changes in coat

If your dog is experiencing some of these symptoms, please take your dog to the vet for diagnostic testing, which may include a blood profile and ACTH stimulation test if Addison’s is suspected.

A Doberman, a Poodle and an Portuguese Water Dog died and are standing in front of God at the entrance to the kingdom of heaven.
God asks them all three, what they believe in?
The Doberman says: "I believe in discipline, training and loyalty to my owner."
"Good," says God, "take a seat on my right side." 😇
"Poodle, what do you believe in?" Asked God.
The Poodle answers: "I believe in love and care from my owner as well as peace in the world."
"Ah," God said, "You can take a seat to my left side." 😇
Then he looked at The PWD: "And what do you believe in?"
The PWD stood there, looked at him and answered :
"I believe you're sitting in my seat!" 😏😎

Paisley🌸 had an impromptu bath this morning. 💩🛁🐕‍🦺. She is cuddled in on the couch in Rafa’s spot. He’s pretty insistent that’s his spot!!. (Like Big Bang’s Sheldon Cooper. )🤪. Such a silly dog.

Did you know? Portuguese Water Dogs have webbed feet! They were bred to work with fishermen on the Algarve coast in the south of mainland Portugal 🇵🇹. The webbed feet allowed them to dive into the water as they retrieved nets and other items.

Did you know?
Portuguese Water Dogs don’t shed (or shed very little). This means that a PWD owner must plan to hire a groomer or learn to groom the dogs themselves.

We hired a groomer for our first PWD but now groom them ourselves.
