Rescuedogsruleto

Rescuedogsruleto I LOVE DOGS. And I am so lucky to be able to volunteer with the Etobicoke Humane Society. Together we can rescue one dog at a time.

Owning a dog is wonderful, but it comes with responsibility: dedication, hard work AND money.

Raise your hand if you think you have the cutest dog in the world!🖐🏻It's all in good fun (and a good cause).

Dodger stole volunteers' hearts from the moment he arrived at Etobicoke Humane Society. Now let's get him adopted!!

Although a mixed breed, Dodger checks all the qualities of an Anatolian Shepherd, he is calm, quiet and very loyal. And when he bonds with you, his confidence will soar and he will be your BFF for life!

A playful and affectionate dog, he enjoys being around people. His joyful spirit and love for being active outside - or just hanging and quietly observing the world around him - make him an ideal companion for a family that loves the great outdoors.

ABOUT DODGER:
- Anatolian Shepherd MIx, Extra Large-sized, Medium-energy
- 2 year-old, Male, 100 lbs
- Unclaimed stray at an over-crowded municipal shelter
- Dodger is great on a walk, doesn’t pull unless he is trying to have a friendly greeting with another dog or squirrel pal
- Dodger is working on controlling his enthusiastic jumping and pulling on the leash
- Dodger is house-trained, microchipped and has core vaccinations (will be neutered before he is adopted)

For more details please visit our website and to adopt fill out an application https://etobicokehumanesociety.com/dogs-for-adoption/

The face says it all!

A sensitive boy who’s been through a lot - he was found wandering the streets and nobody came to claim him. He has been in two different shelters in a short period of time, despite this he warms up quickly and before you know it he will jump on your lap and settle in.

ABOUT TWIGGY:

Beagle Mix, Small-Medium-sized, Medium-energy
4 year-old, Male, 28 lbs
Loves a belly rub and showing affection
He is not overly playful, he enjoys a tennis ball but mostly he just likes being by your side
He is good on a leash and true to his breed, nose to the ground
Neutered, house-trained, microchipped and has his core vaccinations

Fostering a dog is a great way to get your doggy time, even if now is not the right time to own a dog. Etobicoke Humane Society covers all costs while you foster.

These two big boys, Gravy and Marlin, were at high risk of euthanasia when EHS rescued them. Overcrowded municipal shelters in Ontario remain at a critical level as the aftermath of Covid continues to be felt. EHS can save more of these amazing and deserving dogs, but not without more fosters.

Our urgent foster’s need:
a) to be living in a house with a yard
b) dog experience
c) to be willing to care for a medium to large dog.

EHS is a no-kill shelter, which means that we can only save those animals that we have room for. Right now, we have reached our foster capacity. Fostering is a great way to have a dog in your life without the financial burden as EHS will provide all food and supplies, and cover the cost of vet care. We also provide training and ongoing support to our foster parents.

To learn more, please email [email protected] or fill out an online foster application at: https://etobicokehumanesociety.com/foster-dogs-cats/dog-foster-form/

Rene is energetic and low key - a balanced doggo who after a game of fetch is happy to sit at your feet and relax.

ABOUT RENEE:
- Boxer/Rottweiler mix, Medium-size, Medium-energy
- 11 month-old, Female, 44 lbs (she has grown to most of her adult size but will continue to grow for another year or more)
- Renee came to EHS as an unclaimed stray from an overcrowded shelter
- She is great on a walk and already a loose leash walker, she's happiest slowly strolling along beside you taking in her surroundings
- She is very fun and playful and will happily toss the ball and chase it down all by herself
- She is house-trained, microchipped and has core her vaccinations ( she will be spayed before adoption)

RENEE'S IDEAL HOME:
- Renee's ideal home is with an active family who loves to walk and can give her exercise
- A family to work on using her smarts and building her obedience skills
- She has showed some vocalness in the shelter environment when left alone, while we are unsure if this would translate to a home environment, we are recommending her for a home with no shared walls
- She may be good with other dogs or animals in the home given her calm demeanor, this would be discussed with the Adoption Coordinator

Ready for this floppy-eared wonder?

If you have any questions about Renee, contact her Adoption Coordinator at: [email protected] https://etobicokehumanesociety.com/dogs-for-adoption/

I don’t believe dogs arrive “perfect” to their families but Edison is pretty close. 🐾

Have you met our Edison?

He’s a 3 year old retriever mix who has been with us for a few months now. In that time he’s charmed volunteers and his foster family.

His foster had this to say about him: “He is truly a special dog and an absolute joy to have around! He has been a perfect gentleman with our little dog and he does very well with dogs we meet on our walk.”

Please share Edison and if you’re interested in adoption visit our website https://etobicokehumanesociety.com/dogs-for-adoption/

People often wonder if they could foster as it's too hard to see the dog leave. Every time I fostered a dog, there may have been a little sadness, but the joy of seeing our foster dogs go to a loving family: priceless!

There are so many ways to get involved with dog rescues. At Etobicoke Humane Society we are always in need of dedicated volunteers. And I'm biased but we need dog fosters; especially if you have dog experience, home more often than not, live in a house with yard and willing to foster any size dog. (I'm not asking for much😏).
Even sharing the post can help spread the word.

June is National Foster-a-Pet Month

During this month we raise awareness about the important role that Foster Care has in saving a dog or cat’s life. Foster families are essential to the Etobicoke Humane Society, providing a much needed temporary home for a cat or dog, while we search for their forever family.
Ever wondered about fostering a rescue dog?
Then join us throughout the month of June as we will talk about all things foster.

● Learn everything you ever wanted to know about fostering.
● Hear directly from EHS’ Foster Volunteers about their fostering experiences
● Enjoy a rescue dog's story from rescue to foster care to their forever home.
● And more!

Watch for content on Instagram and Facebook throughout June. Follow us and join in!
