Fostering for the first time can be overwhelming but with the right Rescue and their support, it is a wonderful and rewarding experience.
I fostered and was the Foster Manager for three years at EHS, and although it could be challenging at times, I would not change the experience at all.

Fostering isn't always easy but until populations can be better managed through responsible pet ownership and breeding, including spay/neuter, fostering is essential to reducing the numbers of animals that are euthanized for space.

Fostering gives animals a much needed break from the shelter, and gives rescues and shelters critical information to help that animal get adopted to the right family.

(GG seen here with my husband, John. She was our 62nd foster that went back just yesterday.)

The 'rule of 3' provides guidance on what to expect through your dog adoption (or foster) journey. Every dog needs patience, love, time and work. (All those well behaved dogs you meet are because their humans have put in the work.)

These past few years have taught me to think about the dog's needs more than my own. If you listen, you will hear (or see) what each dogs needs in that moment.

Dogs communicate at different “volumes.” Noticing and listening to the more subtle signs (low volume) enables us to intervene and help dogs feel more comfortable so they don’t resort to the more overt signs (high volume).
