Ever notice how your Bernedoodle stares, studies, and analyzes every movement on walks? 👀
That’s not stubbornness — it’s instinct.

Dogs follow what’s called the predatory sequence — a natural pattern from noticing → stalking → chasing → catching → relaxing.
Bernedoodles, like Bernie, often get “stuck” in the early stages — noticing and assessing everything — which can look like reactivity or overexcitement.

The key? Don’t fight it. Satisfy it.
💨 Sniff walks
🌲 Decompression hikes
🦴 Lick mats and chews

These meet their instinctual needs and help them finally rest easy.

What kind of dog do you have — and which part of the sequence do you see most? Let’s find calm by working with their instincts, not against them. 💛

Your dog’s behaviour is deeply connected to their brain chemistry — not just training. 🧠💛

Here are the 3 feel-good chemicals that shape your dog’s mood, behaviour, and ability to learn:

🐾 Dopamine = motivation + learning
Celebrate small wins, use rewards, and let your dog problem-solve!

🐾 Oxytocin = bonding + trust
Gentle touch, soft eye contact, and predictable care build emotional safety.

🐾 Serotonin = calm + emotional balance
Sniff walks, chewing/licking, sunlight, routine + rest support a regulated dog.

Balanced brains create calm, confident dogs.
Support the inside first — the behaviour follows. 💛

As a Family Dog Mediator, I help you understand the why behind your dog’s behaviour so you can meet their needs with confidence.
DM “BALANCE” for guidance tailored to your dog.

💚 WHEN A DOG FEELS HEARD — World Mental Health Day Edition

🐶 Ever notice how your dog exhales when you really listen?

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that emotional wellness begins with being seen and heard — for both humans and dogs.

When a dog feels heard, their world softens.

Beneath every bark, pause, or glance away lies a story.
Some dogs have learned that expressing how they feel isn’t always safe — that being quiet, compliant, or invisible keeps the peace.

But when we listen with curiosity instead of correction, something shifts.

Their breathing slows.
Their body releases tension.
Their eyes meet ours again.

Maybe your dog barks at the window — not to misbehave, but to say “I’m unsure.”
Maybe they hesitate on a walk — not to be stubborn, but to say “This space feels too much right now.”

The Dog Wellness Wheel reminds us that emotional health grows from connection, not control.

💛 When a guardian listens — truly listens — a dog’s nervous system settles.
And when we do the same for ourselves and each other, we heal too.

🍎🐾 Fall is the perfect time to work on your pup’s loose-leash walking, calm greetings, and focus skills—and what better classroom than an apple orchard?

Dog-friendly farms across Ontario welcome pups (on leash), making apple picking a fun way to combine training, socialization, and seasonal adventures.

👉 Training reminders while you pick:
✨ Practice polite walking through distractions (kids, wagons, food smells)
✨ Reinforce “leave it” around fallen apples and cores
✨ Build confidence with calm downtime in a new, stimulating environment
✨ Reward your dog for checking in with you amidst all the action

Here are a few Ontario orchards that welcome dogs: confirm before you go.

🐾 We had such a wonderful time at the Don Mills event with Naya and Ollie — two sweet pups who stole the show with their big smiles and gentle hearts. The best news? Both have since been adopted into loving forever homes! 💕

As the volunteer trainer for , I get to help foster dogs like Naya and Ollie build confidence, learn good manners, and settle in while they wait for their families. It’s such a rewarding part of the rescue process, and seeing them move on to their new homes makes it all worthwhile.

We’re excited to share that will be back at Don Mills on October 18 & 19 with more amazing adoptable dogs. Please stop by our booth, meet the pups, and learn how you can support rescue — whether through adoption, fostering, or spreading the word.

Dog parkour isn’t just a trick — it’s confidence, coordination, and fun all rolled into one.

Here’s how to get started:
1. Find a safe, low, wide surface such as a rock, bench, or log.
2. Use a treat to guide your dog’s paws up. Mark and reward success.
3. Build gradually: 2 paws → 4 paws → sit or stand → hop off.
4. Keep it safe and positive — avoid slippery or unstable surfaces, and always let your dog choose.

Everyday walks can become mini-adventures that strengthen your bond and boost your dog’s confidence.

Would your dog climb up here?

🐾 Every Job Counts 🐾

For this pup, carrying a stick isn’t “just a stick” — it’s a job.
And having a job, no matter how small, helps dogs:
🧠 Regulate their energy
💞 Build confidence
🌱 Stay focused
🌍 Feel purposeful

Sometimes the simplest “work” is exactly what they need to stay balanced. ✨
