🌟FRIDAY'S TIP OF THE WEEK🌟
Are you familiar with the 3-3-3 rule when adopting a rescue dog?
The 3-3-3 rule represents the phases of a rescue dog or common milestones your new dog or puppy will go through.
The 3-3-3 rule is the first 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months after bringing your dog home from the shelter.
In the first 3 days
Your new dog will probably be overwhelmed with the new surroundings. Don’t be alarmed if he doesn’t want to eat for the first couple of days, many dogs don’t eat when they are stressed. Your pup may shut down and want to curl up in tje crate or under the table and will likely be scared and unsure of what is going on. Or he may be the opposite and test you to see what he can get away with.
After 3 weeks
Your dog is starting to settle in and feeling a bit more comfortable. The puppy may actually be realizing this may be his forever home. Now, your dog has probably figured out his environment and getting into a routine. You may even see some real personality! Behaviour issues may start showing, so show your puppy what’s right and wrong.
After 3 months
Your dog is now completely comfortable in your home. You have built trust and a true bond with your dog, which gives him a complete sense of security with you. He is set in his routine and will come to expect his dinner at his usual time.
Remember to take it slow, keep in mind how your dog is feeling. It’s all very stressful for the pup so make sure to give your puppy time and space and lots of love.

One of the easier tricks to teach your dog is paw.
If you want to train your dog, it's important to have plenty of healthy treats on hand (those from Sophie's BARKery are great for this). Keep training sessions around 10 minutes long to prevent your dog from getting bored and make sure you tackle the basic tricks first.
When rewarding your dog after a successful trick, it's important to give them the treat quickly so they associate the behaviour with receiving food.
To teach "paw" try the steps below.
Make sure your dog is sitting and hold a small treat firmly in your hand so they can smell it but not see it. Encourage your dog to try to get the treat. Most dogs will try to open your hand with their paw.
As soon as their paw touches your hand, open your hand and let them have the treat, praising as you give it. Repeat this several times and start adding a verbal command such as "paw" before you give them the treat.
And always have fun with them!

⭐Friday Tip of the Week⭐
Some dogs don't like water, Sophie is one of them. Whether it's fear or another reason the unknown can be scary, but there are simple ways you can slowly introduce your dog to water to make it less frightening:
• Play fetch with the sprinklers on
• Let him explore puddles on walks
• Don’t hold the umbrella over him when it rains
• Pet him with a wet washcloth
• Take him on walks around a lake or by the ocean
• Feed or give him dog treats in the bathroom while water runs in the bathtub
• Show him that baths aren’t scary by leading by example
Taking things slow is the way to go! (And maybe some treats from Sophie's BARKery may help 😉)
