✨ new adoptable - meet Palomita ✨

Female | 1.5 years old | 22 pounds | Medium-high energy | Playful with dogs her size | BFFs with kids she lives with | Can likely co-exist with cats | From in Mexico | Fostered in Mississauga | Affectionate & playful & loves belly rubs
PALOMITA. With a presence that’s as lively as hers, PALOMITA’s medium-high energy and happy-go-lucky personality both rather appropriately reflect her name. What’s her name mean, you ask?! Popcorn! It’s funny though, ‘cause she’s definitely not a large fluffy mass!

Quick to endear herself to her humans, PALOMITA is a scruff who is eager to please her people, and, because of this, is learning fast, having recently moved to Canada from Mexico. She’s shown that she’s a natural at fetch, really enjoys (and needs) her 3 walks a day and time for mental stimulation, and that she’d make a really wonderful family dog. Oh, and she’s currently doing well learning the command, sit, with treats.

PALOMITA is BFFs with her foster’s older kids who play with her and take part in her training. Ever curious, she always wants to know what everyone else in the house is up to and happens to be a fan of joining in on family movie night. PALOMITA has also done well meeting older kids at the park. Giving her time and space to meet new people has served her well and, once she’s sniffed them, is typically happy to let them pet her. She’s also likely to share lots of licks, but keep an eye out for any jumping on her part.

Let’s talk dogs. Initially, this scruff can be unsure of larger dogs (same goes with meeting new humans indoors!), but with those her size or those that are particularly friendly, she’s keen to play with them. At 1.5 years old, PALOMITA has some puppy energy in her that has her keen to explore up on furniture and nibble on slippers and socks. Keeping those items out of reach and her real chew toys in reach (along with adding time for mental stimulation throughout the day) are all good strategies to implement. Yes, she does get the occasional zoomies. So, let’s find PALOMITA her furever home, shall we?!

✨ new adoptable - meet cacho ✨

Male | 10.5 years old | 46 pounds | Low energy | Hasn’t met cats, likely fine with them | Shows an interest in meeting dogs | Does well with dog-savvy kids | From Mexico | Fostered in Mississauga | Gentle and affectionate
World, meet CACHO. CACHO, meet world. If there was one word we could use to describe CACHO, it would be an absolute sweetheart. OK, well, that’s three words, but you get the idea. Calm, curious, and independent, CACHO enjoys spending his time with his humans, going for walks, and sniffing all the things there are to sniff. Oh and lounging, he likes to lounge! Same, CACHO!

With moments of play and the occasional burst of energy, rather than describing him as a highly energetic scruff, we would say CACHO is lower in energy. He enjoys going for walks, which is where he gives new dog pals a little sniff before moving on. He’s nicely curious about dogs and could likely do well in a home with another medium-low energy scruff to keep him company.

His two favourite things are giving and receiving attention. And, yes, he’s calm and gentle, meaning he would do well in a home with dog-savvy kids. His respect for boundaries doesn’t hurt, either! A quiet neighbourhood would suit him best, and, when you first meet him, you may notice he takes a bit to warm up. That said, his curiosity will have him showing more confidence and help encourage him to explore new interactions. Creating a solid routine that you both stick to will help him in gaining more confidence, too.

Potential adopters, note that CACHO needs a once-weekly medicated bath due to a skin condition. While he might not love getting all squeaky clean, he’s patient with this process. Keen to bring this scruff into your life? Apply to adopt at www.saveourscruff.org 🫶🏻🐾✨

✨ new adoptable - meet Alfie ✨

Male | 5 months old | 26 pounds (but still growing) | Medium energy with puppy energy bursts | Could be a good second dog to an active pooch | Not cat-tested, shows prey drive | Would be fine with dog-savvy children | From Hamilton | Fostered in Burlington | Affectionate, energetic & goofy

Here comes ALFIE! He loves to make people laugh. Whether it’s his parkour skills, shoe-stealing antics, or just general goofy personality, he is sure to bring a smile to your face.

ALFIE is still just a puppy, which means he’ll get those bursts of puppy energy throughout the day. He would love to join an active home that’s going to play with him (tennis balls and ropes are his favourite toys), and take him on adventures. He has also been learning the joys of downtime and has shown great progress about going in his crate to unwind. Initially he was resistant to the idea, but now, with some guidance, he’ll go in and settle quickly.

ALFIE could do great with another active dog in the home, preferably one who likes to play. It’s not a non-negotiable for him though, as we think he could do fine in a home as a solo dog too. He has been living with another dog in foster care and has been doing well, but the resident dog is relaxed and not so into playing. ALFIE is respectful and knows to take a step back when the other dog isn’t feeling it. Meeting other dogs on-leash, he’s working on remaining calm and holding in that puppy excitement, but proper intros are important to him.

ALFIE could do well in a home with dog-savvy kids. He has met some in foster care and loves lying at their feet as they pet him. Something about him is that he loves affection. Like, a lot. He’d accept endless belly rubs if he could. ALFIE hasn’t met any cats in foster care but he does show prey drive, particularly with birds.

Fun fact: ALFIE is not afraid of water and is destined to grow up to be a big water dog. Interested in welcoming the goofy and lovable ALFIE into your home? Apply to adopt at www.saveourscruff.org ✨💞🫶🏻🐶

✨ new adoptable - meet Wesley ✨

Male | 7 years old | 64 pounds | Medium to high energy | Needs to be a solo dog | Was cat-tested in the shelter and did well, mostly ignoring the cats | Does well with dog-savvy children | From Hamilton | Fostered in Toronto | Goofy, active & affectionate

Hey. Hey, WESLEY. Look at us!

For fans of Paul Rudd, this might just be the dog for you. He’s a little bit dorky, charming, and sweet with all the humans he meets. Though he’d surely make a great leading love interest in a romcom, or an excellent guest to eat hot wings with, we think WESLEY would shine as a companion for an active family. He may be 7 years old, but he still has loads of energy for going on walks and hikes, and even joining his human(s) for running/biking! He recently tried Canicross and, no surprise, was great at it.

For WESLEY, ball is life. He LOVES playing fetch, and will play for as long as you’ll continue to throw. He’s amazing at the game and has zero issues dropping the ball. He’ll even drop it right into your hand if you put it out.

Though WESLEY loves to be active, you’ll be happy to hear he is also great at winding it down when indoors. When properly exercised and mentally stimulated, he is happy to relax at home. He could even work well for a 9-5er, and is great about going in his crate.

WESLEY loves humans with all his heart and has been a hit with all the new people he meets, including the volunteers at the shelter. He has also met some kids on the street and was gentle and patient with them. He could likely live in a home with dog-savvy children.

With other dogs, WESLEY can be reactive and would be best in a home as a solo dog. He is working on his leash skills in foster care and will be looking for a handler who is excited to continue his leash-training, which has been improving with the right tools. WESLEY was cat-tested in the shelter and did well, mostly ignoring the cats and giving them space. However, he shows prey drive with rabbits specifically (but good about ignoring squirrels and birds).

Think you’ve just found a new buddy for your active lifestyle? Apply to adopt WESLEY at www.saveourscruff.org 🫶🏻✨

✨ Piper needs a foster starting this August ✨

Female | 9 months | 60 pounds & growing | Medium-High energy level | Positive Exposure with Dogs (Playful) | Positive Exposure with Kids | Looking for a foster family | No cat exposure, but could do well with guidance l Playful, affectionate & fun

Seeking a foster for Piper! This sweet and energetic girl is looking for a new foster home starting at the mid to end of August. She’s a 9 month old foxhound/bully mix. Piper is roughly 55lbs and growing.

She’s a very lovable gal and does well with people, kids, and other dogs. She can be a bit pushy at times so she needs a handler confident to guide a large dog. She benefits from structure and help establishing some boundaries. She would do well in a home or a condo environment but would need an adjustment under new leadership to her new settings. Piper has lived in an apartment in Toronto currently and does fine in this setting. She does well with potty training and is learning to not pull on a leash. She has done classes but is strong and excitable!

She has some kid friends in her neighbourhood and regularly engages with them when out for walks. She is excitable and should be encouraged to not jump and be gentle as she’s still learning her size. She does not have experience with cats but could likely do fine with guidance and structure. If left to her own devices she might chase a cat with a playful nature about it.

Piper is a young dog. Like all puppies, she requires guidance and support to learn how to be the best family member. She will be adoptable after she settles into care. A foster looking to adopt is an option, or just someone wiling to foster while we get her ready to find her furever family.

Apply on our website www.saveourscruff.org 🐶

✨ new intake - welcome Alfie ✨

This guy was scooped out of a local shelter and we’re glad because he is doing much better in foster care.

Alfie was very submissive and docile in the shelter. Alfie is growing his confidence in his comfy foster set up and lots of that is thanks to his supportive foster family which includes a big doggy friend to show him the ropes.

We’re working on this young guys profile and he will be up for adoption very soon! Alfie is 5 months old, just under 25lbs and has beautiful tri colour markings which make him very unique looking!

Alfie is a good balance of play and chill. He’s also a goof and keeps his fosters laughing.

Welcome Alfie 🫶🏻

✨ new adoptable - meet Benito ✨

Male | 2 years old | 35 pounds | Medium energy level | Hasn’t met cats | Lives with a dog | Older kids only, please! | From Mexico | Fostered in Pickering | Loves his humans

BENITO. With a name that quite literally means: blessed, we do in fact feel fortunate to know and love this SOS scruff. Currently settled in a home in Pickering, BENITO’s foster fam has taken to calling him BENNY, which, like is super adorable! It’s so adorable in fact, that you may like to pick that up as well! They indulge him in a daily occurrence of fetch, which he loves, too. But, that’s not all! With time to roam their backyard and a couple of walks throughout the day, this scruff leads a moderately active lifestyle. We’re curious to know if your manner of living looks similar! BENITO is likely to succeed in an environment where he can be a solo dog, as he’s often more interested in spending time with humans. Note though that while he’s not typically interested in meeting other dogs, every once in a while, shows more excitement.

Here are some more particulars pertaining to BENITO:

He’s skilled at sitting, though it took him a solid spell to understand the concept.

He thinks he’s a lapdog, but, spoiler alert: he’s not and will do best in a home with older kids if any.

He respects boundaries, conceptually, that is, and can still become excitable in new situations. He continues to work on this.

One more thing. BENITO’s foster family has implemented time for snuggles at the end of the day. We think that’s rather inspired. Are you inspired to adopt BENITO? Apply today.

✨ new adoptable - meet Ash ✨

Male | 5yrs | 33 lbs | Medium to low energy | Best as a solo dog, or second dog to a chill pup like him | No exposure to cats, likely fine | Could live with dog-savvy children | Great for a 9-5er | From Mexico | Fostered in Toronto | Gentle & sweet

Meet ASH! He loves the chill things in life. His favourite activities include napping, people-watching through the window, belly rubs, & kicking back in his crate for alone time. If you’re looking for a buddy to run marathons with, he's probably not your guy. But movie marathons? He’d definitely be up for that. He's a relaxed dog who is independent, & is looking for a home with a similar vibe.

ASH was known around the shelter as sweet and gentle. He brings the same energy to life in Toronto, though he’s still adapting to the noise and chaos of the big city. He can be startled by loud noises and gets overwhelmed by crowds of people. On particularly busy walks, he’ll walk with his tail between his legs. Overall, he’s a great walker and happy to trot alongside you.

On walks, ASH will typically avoid other dogs, mind his own business & keep distance. ASH would likely be happiest as a solo dog, so he can soak up all the attention from his humans. If any, he may be ok with another calm, low-energy dog like himself, who would give him space. Cats however might be a different story! He hasn’t met any yet, but he shows no prey drive and would likely just keep his distance.

In foster care, ASH has met a few children and did well! He was gentle and respectful with them, sniffed their hands and accepted all their pets. He loved the attention. ASH could likely live in a home with dog-savvy children.

ASH loves his independence, though he does enjoy receiving pets from his people. With new people, he remains cool as a cucumber (as always) but not overly excited. With bigger crowds of people he can get a little nervous. His foster’s fav thing about him is his happy little trot he does when he’s excited to see them. Bonus: He’ll let you know (with a little whimper) to let you know he needs to go out for a potty break.

Does this chill dog sound like the companion for you? Apply to adopt ASH!

✨ new adoptable - meet Margot Robbie ✨

Female | 4 years old | 48 pounds | Medium energy | Could be a good solo dog or second dog to a balanced, playful companion | Has been coexisting well with cats | Would be fine with dog-savvy children | Is unable to open her jaw | From Mexico | Fostered in North York | Affectionate & chill

Celebrity sighting: Here comes MARGOT ROBBIE! OK, so she’s not the iconic actress who played Barbie. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t alert the paparazzi. This MARGOT ROBBIE is looking for her dreamhouse — a new adoptive fam to call her own, go for nice walks with and shower in all her affection.

Speaking of her affection, MARGOT ROBBIE goes hard in her love for her people. She loves to lean her full weight into you in hopes of getting pets. Apart from her love-bombing and the occasional zoomie, this pup is overall quite chill, enjoying the laid-back moments in life like relaxing at home and taking naps.

Something MARGOT ROBBIE wants you to know is that she can’t open her jaw. Though it doesn’t make her any less adorable, it does get in the way of her being able to eat properly, and needs food to be softened with water or served in tiny chunks she can easily bite.

MARGOT ROBBIE loves humans of all types. We think she could also do fine with dog-savvy kids. She has met a few and did great, even in their more unpredictable moments. She can however be a bit of a bull in a china shop, which means she may not be best suited to a home with tinier kids who may be knocked over by her love.

We think MARGOT ROBBIE would love to be a second dog to another pup of a similar size and temperament, who would be up for playing with her. She’s been coexisting with a nervous dog in foster care, and is respectful but has shown she would love to play. She would also do fine as a solo dog as long as she gets lots of playtime with her people. But good news for cat people: She is good with cats! She’s been living with some and gives them lots of space.

Is your home MARGOT ROBBIE’s new dreamhouse? Apply to adopt!

✨new adoptable - meet Guso ✨

Male | 8 yrs old | 24hrs | Medium energy | Has met older kids | Calm passing dogs on walks | Hasn’t met cats | From Mexico | Fostered in Toronto | Gentle & loving | A big fan of snuggling

GUSO is an absolute joy. No, we aren’t overemphasizing or embellishing GUSO’s greatness, nor the smiles generated because of it. In fact, those words came directly from his foster. He is a sweet soul who enjoys engaging in as much play time as he can & lots of downtime to rest. Note that he limps on his front leg due to a prior injury &, while it certainly doesn’t stop him from living life to its fullest, know that he walks at a moderate to slow pace.

OK time to humble brag, we’ll have you also know that GUSO walks well on leash. What makes GUSO, well, GUSO, you ask? It’s the combination of his surprisingly quiet nature combined with the fact that nothing really phases him. Living in downtown Toronto, there are always loud trucks, people coming and going and other such things and GUSO pays it no mind.

GUSO’s foster has been hard at work implementing boundaries with this scruff, which has proved beneficial. He thrives with a routine and generally likes to be around his people when possible. When it comes down to it, he’s looking for a home that is quiet and calm, just like him! This scruff became instant buds with his foster’s daughter. We hear they’ll be sad to let GUSO go, but simultaneously happy that GUSO will have found his own version of furever. Could that be with you? Apply to adopt.

Benny and his siblings were abandoned in a sack, left to fight for their lives. After nearly a year in the shelter, Benny found a home but the transition out of the shelter was hard and he was returned to care.

He is now in an 8-week training program, getting closer to becoming the playful and loving pup we know he can be.

We have already fundraised for some of the costs but still urgently need $4,600 to cover the remainder and give Benny the chance he deserves to find a forever home.

Your support can transform Benny’s life forever.

✨ new adoptable - meet juniper ✨

Female | 10 months old | 42 pounds | Medium energy | Currently lives with kids, did well with slow introductions | Some exposure to dogs | Hasn’t met cats | From Hamilton | Fostered in Bolton | Playful & affectionate

JUNIPER. A gentle dog whose playful personality can’t help but bring a smile to her human’s face. She’s a morning person, *ahem* dog, and is known to wake up on the right side of the dog bed eager to give kisses and show off those good vibes of hers.

Quiet and respectful, JUNIPER is a smart scruff and works hard to please those around her and, in turn, appreciates receiving love and affection. We’re happy to oblige! With a medium energy level, JUNIPER needs to find a home that is relatively active and able to keep up with the physical and mental stimulation she requires each day. This girl loves a good game of fetch and once she’s had some fun exercise, is happy to snuggle up with her humans.

We’re happy to share that she has recently accomplished loose leash walking, and we know you’ll love accompanying her on daily strolls. JUNIPER currently lives with another dog in her foster’s home and warmed up to them quickly. Of course, out on walks she requires proper introductions to dogs on leash and knows to carry on when told. She has a minor prey drive and interactions with cats will need to be monitored.

Interested in JUNIPER? Apply to adopt today at www.saveourscruff.org 🐶🫶🏻💞

✨new adoptable - meet Audrey✨

Female | 1 year old | 55 pounds | Medium to high energy | Could make a good second dog to a calm companion | No cats, please! Shows prey drive | Does well with dog-savvy children | From Hamilton | Fostered in Bowmanville | Affectionate, sweet & a bit of a drama queen

Here comes AUDREY! Just like the iconic actress Audrey Hepburn, she is stunningly beautiful. Sure, this AUDREY may not be as graceful, but she’d happily eat breakfast at Tiffany’s with you if you offered. Mainly because she loves breakfast. And dinner. And treats of all kinds.

As you may have already guessed, AUDREY is food motivated. Thanks to treats, she is eager to please and loves training sessions. She loves food *almost* as much as she loves humans. Though she’s a bit nervous at first, she warms up fast and will quickly become a total cuddle bug. She looks you straight in the eyes and wears all her love on her face. She’s 55 pounds but believes with her whole chest that she’s a lap dog.

AUDREY is gentle and affectionate. Um, except with her toys. She will destroy any and all soft toys, so it’s only the heavy-duty chew-proof ones that will do. AUDREY can get some separation anxiety which makes her want to destroy toys, so may not be well suited to a 9-5er. AUDREY is an active dog who is on the higher end of the energy scale. She loves fun walks and structured playtime, and when playtime’s over, she’ll do a very dramatic sigh.

AUDREY has met kids of various ages (including sniffing some babies) and did well! She’d likely be fine in a home with dog-savvy kids. AUDREY could make a great second dog to another calm dog that’s a similar size. She can be hesitant passing some dogs, particularly smaller dogs. AUDREY also shows prey drive with local critters and for this reason is likely not well suited to live with a cat, though she hasn’t been tested.

Interested in welcoming AUDREY into your home? Apply to adopt at www.saveourscruff.org 🐶🫶🏻

Bruno is adopted 🎉

Just a few months ago Bruno was on a list to be euthanized at just 5 months old due to medical needs. We took him into care with the unknowns and the responsibility to get him healthy and ready for a family.

Well this guy is all those things and .. even a cat lover we learned. He has been adopted by his foster! Bruno is doing really well, he and his mom have started training classes for this huge guy out of necessity for his strength. And as mentioned is doing well with their family cat.

We’re so glad for this happy ending or really new beginning.

Thank you to everyone who has helped his journey one way or another. Scroll to the last photo to see him at intake 🫶🏻

✨ new adoptable - meet Hazel ✨

Female | 4 months old | 11 pounds and growing | Medium energy | Happy meeting kids | Limited exposure to dogs | Hasn’t met cats | From Costa Rica | Fostered in Toronto | A shy yet affectionate scruff who loves to explore

Sure, having a pup is a lot of work. But, HAZEL here, makes it SO gosh darn worth it. And enjoyable! Scruff community, we’d like you to meet our newest adoptable, a 4-month-old pup who loves her walks, stopping to smell the flowers, and, well, her naps.

We hear from her Toronto-based foster fam that HAZEL is lovable (naturally), a cuddler (score!!!) and overall a sweet soul (aww!). As a pup, we’re sure you can imagine that she’s busy working on allll the training! Right now, it’s house training and leash training that she’s focusing most on, and she has been getting out for lots of walks to practice both. While out on one of these walks, HAZEL met another dog, taking a minute to check them out. She did well with this first interaction, and we can see her making doggy pals with slow, proper intros. It’s likely, too, that as she spends more of her time exploring the world around her, she’ll gain more confidence, which is something we’re so excited to see in time.

Once she overcomes her initial shyness, HAZEL shows off just how playful she can be. She’s naturally calm and just wants to show her people how much she loves them, and to receive that same love in return! If you think you might be the right fit for HAZEL, we encourage you to apply to adopt. Oh, and when it’s time to meet her? Don’t forget the belly rubs!

Happy 14th birthday

Bella had a tough time in care for almost 2 years. Bella was one of our first behavioural owner surrenders.

At a point where Bella was looking for a new foster, Daphne, who was thriving as an sos foster, asked if she could foster Bella. This is an important acknowledgment as Bella had behavioural changes that had limited her time in care to trainers mostly. To have a team member wanting to foster was really unique and special.

Well, turns out she wasn’t just going to foster care, she was going home. Daphne and her family adopted Bella 🫶🏻

Leopold l Male | 4 years old | 31 pounds | Medium energy | Could make a good second dog to a calm companion | Good with cats | Does well with dog-savvy children | From Hamilton | Fostered in Hamilton | Friendly, loving, loyal

Leopold is a 4-year-old sweetheart, weighing in at 31 pounds, he’s a mix of medium energy levels and moments of calm, making him a versatile companion. Fostered in Hamilton, Leopold has settled in quickly and shows more of his playful personality each day. This lovable boy thrives in a home where his humans are around, as he can get anxious when left alone. He’s working on crate training, and although he had a rocky start, he’s making progress. Leopold’s ideal home would have someone who works from home or has a flexible schedule, as he isn’t suited for long periods of solitude and needs someone committed to ongoing crate training.

Leopold is incredibly affectionate and loves to be near his people, greeting them with waggy tails and big smiles when they return. He enjoys games of tug and fetch and gets along well with other dogs, especially calm companions. In fact, having another dog in the house helps ease his anxiety and boosts his confidence. He coexists peacefully with cats, respecting their space even though he’d love to be best friends.

Leopold does well with dog-savvy kids aged 10 and up, although he may get overly rambunctious and excited during play. On walks, he greets other dogs with a wagging tail and polite sniffing. However, he is still working on his leash manners as he can sometimes be difficult to redirect if he becomes interested in another dog.

If you think you could be his perfect match, apply to adopt this sweet boy today!
