✨ incoming intake - meet Journey ✨

Journey is headed on her flight from Manitoba to Toronto today. We wanted to thank you all for sharing our post looking for flight parents because it really helped!! Journey is 1/6 pooches we hope to bring into care from this area this month. More in the works for April! (Keep sending your friends our need for flight parents ✈️)

Manitoba has an overpopulation of dogs, particularly “northern mixes” like Journey. Usually breeds include husky, shepherd, lab, etc etc. We often take in puppies from here like our recent post of 4 pups.

Journey is 5 months old, female and STUNNING we might add. She’ll be joining SOS foster care and settle in for about 10-14 days before we start to think about the adoption journey. She’ll also have an intake vet appointment before becoming adoptable.

We can’t wait to welcome her! Thank you to the team onsite tonight as well as the team working behind the scenes to get her here including our partners on the ground

Can’t wait to welcome her!! 💞✨

✨new adoptable - meet tomasita✨

Female | 1 year old | 19 pounds | Medium energy | Good second dog | Coexists with a cat | Hasn’t met kids | From Costa Rica | Fostered in Toronto | Shy & sweet | Building confidence

Today we have the pleasure of introducing you to TOMASITA who recently made the move from Costa Rica to Toronto, where she’s now being fostered. A shy scruff, TOMASITA is naturally curious yet is taking her time building up confidence and resilience when it comes to encountering new situations. Trust goes a long way with this one, and taking the time to build a solid foundation with her is what will help her become her bravest self.

She currently does well coexisting with a cat in the home, and while she’s yet to meet kids, she might benefit from living and/or meeting another calm, confident dog. Why? To show her the ropes, of course, and making a new friend would likely be fun for her. We know that in her previous foster home, this scruff enjoyed running and playing with other dogs she lived with. So, with time, we’re sure she’ll warm up and show off her naturally curious personality here too. Lately, TOMASITA has been starting to show an interest in toys, which is also something we love to see!

From what we know so far, this scruff would likely do well in a quieter home and living with humans that are home more often than not. She also happens to love a cuddle, which is a big plus if you ask us! Think she might be a nice match for you? Apply to adopt today at www.saveourscruff.org 💞

having terminal cancer was never part of the plan for Evee’s adoption journey

Evee arrived in our care in October. During her routine intake veterinary appointment, skin lesions were noticed, which led to three months of diagnoses testing. The result was news we never wanted to hear. Not only was Evee diagnosed with cancer, but that treatment options were no longer viable.

If you met Evee today, you’d encounter a sweet and lovable girl. She appears healthy, with plenty of s***k for walks, playing, and being all up in anyone’s personal space who visits her foster home. Her foster family says she’s like Drew Barrymore during guest interviews—no personal space for anyone! Evee showers her visitors with all the love and affection she can give.

But Evee’s pain will inevitably come, and her life will be shortened. We’ve made the decision to keep Evee under Save Our Scruff care until her time comes. Evee does have a life expectancy of a few years, and together with her Furever Fosters, our plan is to keep her as comfortable as possible.

We’ve already incurred some expenses through the diagnosis process and will continue to cover Evee’s veterinary support, supplies, and ongoing care. If you’d like to contribute, please consider donating through Instagram or on our website today.

While this isn’t the path we envisioned for Evee, we are grateful for the team that has rallied around her care and comfort. A special thank you to her foster family, Cristina & Massimo, and their scruff alum Jassie for being her family. We also want to extend our thanks to her rescuers, veterinary team, and the SOS dog team for their support.

Evee is officially welcomed to our Furever Foster Program—alongside Tilda and Mateo 💞✨

✨adoptable - maple✨

Female | 2 years old | 35lbs | Medium Energy | Can be shy with other dogs | Dog-savvy cats may work | Best in an adult-only home or with older, dog-savvy kids | From Mexico | Fostered in Toronto | Curious & sweet

With a name like MAPLE, she was meant to find her home in Canada—and just like the syrup, she’s as sweet as can be! Initially shy, she has blossomed into a curious and observant pup whose adventurous nature makes every walk exciting.

She’s still adjusting to city life and thrives with patience, positive exposure, and a structured routine. Crate-trained and doing well in an apartment setting, MAPLE takes time to warm up to new people and can be a bit suspicious at first. Slow introductions and clear boundaries help her feel safe, and once she trusts you, she’s incredibly loyal and affectionate.

MAPLE has shown some controlling tendencies, staying very aware of movement around her space. However, with structure and training, she’s learning that she doesn’t need to be in charge. She would do best with an experienced adopter who can recognize her cues or someone committed to working with a trainer.

While selective with other animals, MAPLE may do well with a confident, dog-savvy cat or a well-matched canine companion. She hasn’t met children, but she’d be best suited to an adult-only home or one with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries.

Her big, soulful eyes will melt your heart. With continued guidance and a loving, structured home, MAPLE will thrive. Ready for some sweet adventures? Apply to adopt MAPLE today at www.saveourscruff.org 🤠✨💞

✨new adoptable puppies - meet Aster, Cedar, Petunia + Heath✨

3 Male & 1 Female | Born January 17 | Puppy energy | From Norway House, Manitoba | Fostered in Winnipeg | Arriving to Toronto late March | All looking for adopters

Puppies! Run, don’t walk, because we officially have 4 pups, each looking for their furever homes. The 3 males and 1 female are currently living in Winnipeg and are making the journey to Toronto in late March. TBD on their exact date of arrival, so for any potential adopters, keep in mind you’ll need to be flexible when it comes to your availability.

CEDAR (male), HEATH (male), PETUNIA (female), and ASTER (male) are a month old and very busy growing. They’ll be a little over 2 months old when they arrive, and we recommend looking up northern breeds for more insights and being prepared for obedience classes once they are old enough.

As a pup, CEDAR’s presence most certainly isn’t towering, yet give it time, and this young scruff will grow almost as big and strong as those majestic evergreens. HEATH’s name suggests one who likes all things rugged and outdoorsy. Time will tell! As the female in this litter, PETUNIA is love in a puppy package. ASTER shines just as bright as a star, with his white fur coat and spotted eye.

As canine companions, each of these pups has the potential to both comfort you and liven up your everyday with their playful antics! Apply today. If you are open to any puppy, please state that in your application.

Visit our adoptable webpage to see a picture of their mom for reference, and pictures are labelled with the puppies names.

Apply today! Www.Saveourscruff.Org 💞✨

✨new adoptable - meet chai✨

If Chai had a love language, it would definitely be quality time. She loves being curled up on your lap, enjoying pets, scratches, and peaceful naps. She thrives on being close to her human, and right now, as I write this, she’s inching closer to me, leaving her cozy spot on the heating blanket to lay closer, touching me.

Chai is expected to be about 6 years old, and she’s the epitome of a true Chihuahua. At just 3.5 lbs, she has a laid-back energy and loves being a companion. While she’ll occasionally explore around the house, sniffing for crumbs, she prefers to settle down on her bed or a warm blanket to watch everything around her. Her favourite spot? Anywhere she can see you, especially the kitchen—because food, of course! She’s fine for apartment living, with no need for a yard, especially in the winter. She’s happy to stay inside, going out only for potty breaks and quickly returning to warmth.

Chai currently lives with a medium-sized senior dog. The two coexist, respecting each other’s space, though Chai enjoys the company of him at times, she’s really a people dog. Once she senses your attention, she’s all in, snuggling up for affection. She’s never met a cat, but we think she’d do fine with a laid back dog-friendly one.

Chai does do a bit of shaking, which can be linked to her small size and sensitivity to cold. She may also shake when nervous, such as when a new person enters the home or loud noises are going on, but she’s a curious girl and warms up quickly once she feels safe. She’s drawn to both men and women, and while she hasn’t met kids yet, she may do well with older children who understand how fragile she is.

Chai is left alone at times currently. She either has access to a small room or is crated. She might claw at the door or pace before settling. The more coddled she is, the more difficult it may become to leave her alone. So something to consider!

Chai is a special girl who will be an excellent companion for the right family. If you feel she’s the one for you, apply to adopt in the next 48hrs. She will be available to move to her furever home next week.

✨new adoptable - meet Kori✨

Female | 2 years old | 45 Pounds | Medium Energy | Good Exposure with other dogs | Dog savvy cats or no cats, please! | No kids | From Mexico | Living in Sharon | Affectionate, playful and smart

Kori is a s***ky, intelligent, and fun natured gal. She’s a mixed breed, is 2 years old & weighs 45lbs.

Personality: Kori is independent and smart, with a fun-loving spirit. She loves her daily walks, playtime with tug toys, and bonding with her humans. While she was initially shy, she’s become more confident with bonded people, and her affectionate nature shines through. She’s an eager learner and loves challenges. Kori can be both cautious and boisterous with new people but is learning to engage in a calm, respectful manner.

Ideal Day: Kori thrives on a structured routine. A walk in the morning, followed by play + skill learning exercises, makes her a happy girl ready for some relaxation. She’s perfectly content to chill in her crate or relax while you’re busy but loves to be involved with you when you’re free.

Other Pets: Kori enjoys the company of other dogs, especially playful and confident ones. She loves to play chase and wrestle, but she respects boundaries well. Kori has a strong prey drive and will chase small animals, so her ideal home would have a dog-savvy cat or no cats at all.

Skills: With guidance Kori is good with housetraining & crate-training, and walks well on leash. She’s still a bit nervous around strangers but improves with positive interactions & instructions that will be handed down by her handler.

Ideal Home: Kori would do best in a quieter, adult-only home with an experienced adopter. A family with another playful dog would be ideal. If you’re ready for a fun, intelligent companion, Kori could be the one!

Fun Fact: Kori is always game for a good tug-of-war session or a fun game of chase!

She is available for informal meet & greets to see if it’s a good fit. Email [email protected] to meet her, and include a little about yourself and why she’s a match for you. 💞✨🐶

✨new adoptable - meet Coquis✨

Female | 3 years old | 23 pounds | Medium energy | Good second dog | Co-exists with cats | Not kid tested | From Mexico | Fostered in Hamilton| Nervous, silly & smart

At 3 years young, Coquis lived for some time in a shelter setting before coming to Toronto in October. This smol girl felt a little lost in the city landscape. Indoors was her safe haven and she started coming out of her shell inside only. She thrived with another chill doggo to play with and learn from. She also has coexisted with a dog-friendly cat and done just dandy.

After a short reboot with a trainer, Coquis is now settling into her new foster home, where she has been making huge strides and showing more of her goofy, affectionate personality every day. Coquis is a gentle soul with a silly streak, especially when she’s trying to convince you that going outside in the snow is not necessary!

She thrives in a calm environment with predictable routines and chill vibes. Loud noises? No thanks. Busy, high-traffic areas? Hard pass. Coquis is all about quiet walks, cozy naps, and bonding with her humans. She’s incredibly loving once she trusts you and will happily curl up nearby while you work or relax.

Her ideal home would continue her daily routine that involves guiding her to build trust and confidence both indoors & outside. Inside that would look like having her leashed to guide interactions and avoid hiding. Outside, that would look like practicing building confidence (while having fun) by doing obstacles like jumping on structures or rocks, when out for structured walks. She’s caught on well to following her trusted people on walks, to help guide her through things that may initially startle her.

While she may take some time to fully settle in, Coquis is already house-trained, crate-trained, & great on a leash in low-stress areas. She’s good with a flexible schedule that has times in her crate alone and times with her people. She’s looking for patient adopters who will continue building her confidence while also advocating for her when the world feels overwhelming.

Think that could be you? Apply today at www.saveourscruff.org ✨🤍🐶

✨new adoptable - meet Vanna✨

Female | 2.5 years old | 33 lbs | Medium energy | Can be selective with dogs | No cats please | Best with 16+ | From Mexico | Fostered in Sharon, ON | Looking for foster or adopter

Meet VANNA! This sweet, sensitive girl is currently living with a trainer, and making great progress in building confidence. She thrives with structure, routine, and clear guidance, and she’s looking for an experienced adopter to continue working with her.

VANNA is smart and eager to learn. She enjoys structured leash walks, hand-feeding, obedience training, and decompression time. She also loves fetch, hiking, and hanging out with her humans! She is crate-trained and fine being left alone for a workday with proper exercise.

While neutral around most dogs, Vanna can be reactive toward excitable or pushy dogs. A calm, confident dog may help her open up, but she should avoid on-leash greetings with unfamiliar dogs. She has a strong prey drive and is not suited for a home with cats.

VANNA is still nervous with new people and has territorial tendencies in the home. She needs slow introductions and an adopter willing to advocate for her and follow her training plan. Due to this, she would do best in an adult-only home (16+).

VANNA will be in training until early March, and will need a new foster or adopter at that time. Her trainer is open to informal meet & greets, complete with valuable tips on what works for VANNA. She needs a patient and committed person to help her continue building confidence and trust. If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent companion and are willing to continue her training, VANNA is ready to meet you.

✨new adoptable - meet Bagel✨

Female | 10 years old | 62 pounds | Low energy | Coexists with a cat | Currently lives with a dog | Has met older kids | From Hamilton | Fostered in Hamilton | Sweet & gentle | Loves belly rubs and napping

It’s about time we spilled the beans. Our newest adoptable is ready for her time to shine, and no, she’s not named after a legume. Rather, this gal is named after a doughnut’s cooler cousin, BAGEL. Naturally sweet and mighty in her love for her people, BAGEL has perfected the art of companionship.

She’s a loyal pooch and pairs particularly well with your morning coffee :) And just about any other chill activity for that matter. As a slower, overweight senior, walks with BAGEL are short and sweet. This is to be expected, and she’s looking for a home that’s going to enjoy spending time with her as she lives out her golden years. If you ask us, those are the best ones. House-trained and familiar with using a crate, the latter is a space she’s still working on settling in.

BAGEL is the kind of scruff who adores being around people, and if she could, she’d happily spend all day by your side. Other activities she enjoys include rolling in the snow and keeping warm and toasty by soaking up the sun any chance she gets. It’s the simple things in life!

BAGEL could do well with a calm, laid-back dog friend for some extra company throughout the day. Note that she is looking for a quieter home with minimal hustle and bustle where she’s not expected to take on strenuous activities. BAGEL accepts belly rubs from anyone, dog-savvy kids included!

Apply to adopt BAGEL. She’ll be happy to share affection with you, which will kind of be like a carb-hug from the universe. Visit www.saveourscruff.org 💞🥯

Sairi’s app ghosted us after a month working on her adoption 🥹🥹

Now we need to start from scratch to find her family. But we know we can find it with our communities help. And Sairi is too, keeping an eye on our webpage (photo 2).

Sairi (her foster calls her Sarah) has a great disposition. After arriving to care in December this girl fits in so well with the home life.

She lives with another dog and they have a great relationship. She’s respectful of space but also has slide onto his good side and now they even share a bed and groom each other. Sairi also went on a SOS pack walk with 10 pups and was calm, cool and collected. She’s good to share space or likes to play with those interested.

Sairi is also a huge fan of hoomans and is an amazing cuddler! Lap dog? If that’s your thing, it’s her thing too. Sairi is also good to coexist and on first introduction can be reserved but curious. At the pack walk she was also fine to approach strangers or just hang nearby them. Shes also had exposure with kids and done great. She’s sweet and tender with them.

This gal is loves her daily walks and otherwise is content to hang with her family. If she has a yard or open space she will run all around and have fun, but inside she’s chill and a great companion. She does like to chew so a bone or enrichment toy can be nice for her. Toys can also bring out her goofy side!

Sairi is 1 year old, about 45lbs and a mixed breed. Shes currently being fostered in a home in Burlington. She’s ready to find her family and we can’t wait to help her find them! Please apply at www.saveourscruff.org

✨new adoptable - meet Millie✨

Female | 4 months old | 28 pounds & growing! | Puppy energy | Eager to accept attention from kids | Currently lives with a dog | Coexists with a cat | From Manitoba | Fostered in Pickering | Sweet & loves to play | Eager to learn

Practically perfect in every way—no, it’s not Mary Poppins, it’s MILLIE!

Always down for a good time, MILLIE is a 3.5-month-old Shepherd Mix who’s full of energy and has a ton of love to give! She’s the perfect puppy companion for an active family who enjoys playtime and adventures. Queen of tug, master of fetch, and always ready to learn a new game, MILLIE is a fun-loving ball of JOY!

MILLIE has met kids, lives with a dog and a cat, and has had great experiences with all of the above. She enjoys playing with people and dogs though is also content to entertain herself with a squeaky toy, frozen enrichment, or tasty bully stick. She thrives with direction and guidance, and with a strong leader to show her what’s expected, she’s sure to become her best self. She sometimes thinks that she should be in charge, but that’s you and you just need to remind her of this by enforcing boundaries.

This clever girl is a quick study—she’s already mastered house training and is doing fantastic with crate training. Like any typical puppy, MILLIE can get jumpy and mouthy when excited. With guidance, she’s quick to settle down and refocus. Plus, she’s highly food motivated, making training that much easier! MILLIE will continue to work on her leash walking skills and vocal tendencies and is eager to improve with continued practice. She’s also slowly learning how to chill so it won’t always be go go go!

Are you ready to welcome this sweet, playful girl into your home? MILLIE is waiting for her forever family to give her all the love and attention she deserves! Apply to adopt today at www.saveourscruff.org 💞✨

✨ adoptable - meet Duke ✨

Male | ~3 Years Old | 58 Pounds | Medium Energy | Coexists well with other dogs | No cats, please! | Did well meeting dog-savvy kids | From Mexico | Living in Erin, Ontario | Affectionate and loves to be with his people

Everyone, meet DUKE. DUKE, meet everyone. At just about 3 years old, DUKE is an affectionate mixed-breed pooch who loves to love his people. You guessed it - he’s up for the task of being an excellent companion if you’re up to the task of learning all there is to learn about him. This includes learning how he communicates with his body language and is something his current trainer would be happy to help coach you on!

In a way, DUKE is a simple scruff. He loves playing with his ball and participating in a round of fetch. He also likes to sleep and eat. Lol. In other ways, he’s more complex and would do well in a home that is looking forward to implementing instruction from his trainers.

As DUKE is currently being fostered by his trainer, he gets to spend afternoons hiking with a pack of dogs. It’s pretty fun for him! With a medium energy level, DUKE requires an hour of exercise a day, think: a nice long walk and time to play outside. It doesn’t have to be a hike!

In this environment, DUKE has been able to progress with his interactions among other dogs. Of course, his new fam will need to continue advocating for him on a daily basis! As we mention the importance of advocating for him, we should also say that DUKE has a high prey drive and will do best, and needs to go to a home with no cats. Can he live with children though? He sure can! Supervision is, of course, necessary but provided he trusts his leader(s), he will do well interacting with respectful kiddos. DUKE could also live with a 9-5er provided he gets a bathroom break midday. Something to consider!

DUKE is available for informal meetups with his foster. If you’re interested but not quite ready to put in the application, send us an email stating you’d like to set up a meet and greet and give us some insights into why you’re thinking you’re a good fit for him! Please email [email protected] to set this up.

✨ new adoptable - meet Vortex ✨

Male | 3 months old | 15~ Ibs & growing | High puppy energy | Not dog or cat-tested | Likely good with dog-savvy kids | From Cayman Islands | Fostered in Midtown Toronto | Happy and curious

Meet VORTEX! This little whirlwind of fun is ready to shake things up in the best way possible! At just a few months old, Vortex is a high-energy, playful pup who approaches life with boundless enthusiasm—and a deep love for snacks. (Seriously, if he had a motto, it would be Will Work for Treats!)

A true people-lover, VORTEX is happiest when he’s surrounded by his humans, whether it’s for a cuddle session after a big day of adventuring or a game of fetch to burn off his zoomies. He’s incredibly curious and always eager to learn. Puppy puzzles? No problem. Training commands? He’s got the basics down and is ready for more!

As adorable as he is, VORTEX is still very much a puppy, which means he’s mastering the art of not using his mouth on everything and everyone. (Teething is tough, okay?) He’ll need patient adopters committed to continuing his puppy training, reinforcing good habits, and providing the right outlets for his energy.

VORTEX thrives with a structured routine of play, walks, and naps—skipping the nap part is not recommended unless you want to witness a full-speed puppy tornado. He’s still working on leash skills, especially in busier areas, so he’d love adopters who can help him build confidence and practice polite walking.

If you’re looking for a playful, loving, and mischievously smart sidekick who will keep you laughing (and keep your treat stash in check), VORTEX is ready when you are! Apply now at www.saveourscruff.org 💞✨🐶
