All The Dogs I've Known Before

The story of Molly and Booboo.
Moly was a bit of a handful, she was very protective of our pack and I eventually had to stop walking her due to her preemptive "bossiness"
She and Booboo had a unique relationship. The second pic shows how they would always be together in the same spot everyday in the car.
Molly did however give Booboo the confidence to take leadership. There was a group of deer hounds that chased and pinned Booboo against a fence when she was about 5 months old.
She was terrified of them.
One day they showed up and were run off by Molly with Booboo following behind at a comfortable distance.
After Molly's influence those dogs never got anywhere near us again and all it took was Booboo's calm confidence as she stood her ground at the pack perimeter.
Thanks Molly for being her friend. 💕

Lorrie Holmes and I produced the Walk to End Canine Cancer 2012-2016. It came about because, after 8 years as a dog walker, I'd lost as many dogs to cancer. So we started the walk. It was amazing how the community came together. Clients, connections of clients, friends, family, colleagues, and strangers all came together and made it happen. ❤️

I'm terrible, I forgot to get a pic of Emmy, I was too enamored with the pile of puppies.
Since our current sit is close by, we stopped in to see the dogs and get reacquainted before our next sit with them.
Emmy and Hank's mom works for the Victoria Humane Society and is fostering these babes. The last pic is from the Humane Society's post, I couldn't get them all together. 😄

We're hanging with our landlord's cats. Love the calm and caution, and no one's anxious or stressed. And Marlo was fairly good at moving on into the house.

There are chickens on the property of our home base. Babies!

Tricks are fine and all, but I much prefer building a bond that transcends any language. Does she understand English, or are we that in tune that our intentions do the talking? Either way, we have a clear line of communication, and that's what I'm all about.

Having a dog off leash is a privilege and a responsibility. Today, we practiced our repertoire of recall cues. My goal is to always have stress free walks, preferably off leash. Back in my Kelly's Dog Walking days, 95% of my dogs were trained to recall on a referee whistle. The other 5% know who I am referring to. 😄 A reliable recall is a life skill that every dog should have. Period.

I gave Marlo a challenge. When I take off my shoes, she immediately goes and gets my sandals. Today, I threw my Blunds into the mix, and she figured it out. 😃👏

It's been a while since we've done directional posing.

Another teaching/desensitization opportunity. Today, we hiked Seal Bay, which is a multitide of multi use trails. We always anticipate horses and bikes, even if we're on a pedestrian only trail, cos you know, people...😄

We said goodbye to Jasper this morning. Bye, buddy, thanks for keeping an eye on us.😄

I try to make every walk a teaching opportunity. Rather than lure her away with treats, I let her experience the event all while having her back with support, positive energy, and guidance. Im all about helping dogs understand and cope in real time. I'm so proud of both of us.

It's been a bit quiet over here the past few days. Gus, who is battling kidney disease, has been feeling poorly. A visit to the vet yesterday has helped tremendously! Not only is Gus feeling better, but it seems Clara's mood has lightened, and she happily joined in on Marlo's collie games. ❤️

Gus had a friend stop by the other day. 😄

Yay, Clara is finally playing with Marlo! Even the old man had a little spring in his step.

We're back with Clara and Gus. Marlo tried to bring the party. 😄

If you've been following Marlo's progression, you know she started with no impulse control and an iffy recall in open spaces. (On the trails, she's almost 100% and has been since we first met last spring) Today, I let her get ahead. (At this point, she's more interested in keeping them in her sight than running over.) I like to take every opportunity to work on her training. She's really chilled out over the past few months. I guess being together 24/7 helps with creating harmonious energy. 😃
