It might be the most important question we ask during a Purebred of Interest feature because we steadfastly believe that there are no bad qualities in carefully bred purebred dogs, only poorly matched owners and dogs.

PWD owners, who should NOT own this breed? What quality could be a "deal breaker" for the owner who didn't do their homework, or, put another way, what qualities do you think a potential owner should have that will make a Portuguese Water Dog a good fit for them?

The girls and I are spending the day at my parents' residence. Not sure how Navy figures this position is comfortable for sleep but it’s a favourite of hers.

When Mom works in the city we often get to go so we can practise our obedience training in new locations. Both Smokey and Navy did very well with the new distractions.

The girls had a great time at the K9IQ Christmas party! They each earned a beautiful ribbon for their Rally runs, Smokey at Advanced and Navy at Intermediate.

2025 we are working on earning:

Smokey: Rally Advanced, Novice Obedience and Apprentice Water Dog titles.

Navy: Rally Intermediate, Pre-Companion Dog in Obedience and Apprentice Water Dog titles.

After reviewing the current situation with fellow PWD breeders who are having difficulties placing puppies, I have decided to wait on Smokey's first breeding.

Her next heat should be around April 2025, and depending on the interest expressed, we may breed her then. If so, puppies would be born in June and ready to head to their new homes in August.

Day 3:Today was all about the class bi***es. Got to see the dam of our intended stud win the Veteren’s 7-9 year class

Day 2: was all about meeting the potential stud dog for Smokey. Got to meet him, see him move and see some of his offspring (from various litters) along with his dam!

Also, took in all the class dog competition, and non-regular classes. Class dog results below in photos.

Today was day 1 for me here at the 2024 PWDCA National Specialty in Kingsport, TN

Beautiful facility, 350+ PWDs, friends old and new! Going to be a great week watching the breed perform in a number of venues ❤

Rainbow harness is Smokey and green harness is Navy. Even though I’m not a huge fan of harnesses, the dogs have to wear them for water trials as they are used to assist the dogs with boarding the boat. You use one hand on the breast strap (between the front legs) with your opposite hand behind the dog’s head and they are able to propel themselves up onto the boat with relative ease! Even Button Nose (~ 60 lbs) would easily come up out of the water and onto the boat without injuring me or herself.
