IT’S GIVING TUESDAY!

Can you help us help Lizzo?

Lizzo is approximately 9 years old and has lived at the sanctuary for several years. Although she is a small kitty, we noticed her getting larger and larger over the past year or so - so much that she can’t properly clean herself. We got our local groomer to shave her backside (to help keep it easier to clean) and we found that she had a lumpy mass on the back of one of her legs. We took her to the vet to see why she was getting so fat and get her lump checked out, and found out that she is diabetic. Because she is diabetic and there is so much sugar in her system, her teeth had gotten quite bad - so on top of starting twice daily insulin injections and a restricted diet, she would have to get a thorough dental cleaning and possible extractions, as well as have her lump removed.

We had also noticed a couple of times that she almost seemed like she was in heat - especially when the female kittens that she lived with went into heat, so we asked the vet to check and see if she had indeed been spayed.

Well not only did she still have her uterus, but it was covered in multiple tumours! While they were not cancerous, they were probably painful for Lizzo and in turn the vet guessed that she was “comfort eating” to help relative the pain, which in turn led to the diabetes. So one lump removal, uterus removal, dental cleaning and tooth extraction later, Lizzo is finally on the mend.

Lizzo is a very sweet girl - a bit shy, but slowly coming around. She is on insulin and a restricted diet, and there is a possibility that after she loses enough weight she will also lose the diabetes. 🤞 Here’s hoping! However, this journey has cost us close to $3,000 in vet bills (and that is generously discounted) and we are hoping to raise some money to help cover this cost.

This Giving Tuesday, if you would like to help us help Lizzo, please send an etransfer in any amount (every bit helps!) to [email protected]
If you also send us your name, address and phone number we can issue you a tax receipt for the amount donated. Lizzo says thank you for helping her get healthy again! 🙏❤️🐈‍⬛
