Volunteering with ElderDog is a great way to meet new people AND their dogs all while giving back to the community.

“ElderDog Canada gives me the opportunity to interact with both dogs and humans...what a great combination!

We don't have a pet of our own so we love to be able to get our dog "fix". As an added benefit we also get to meet some lovely seniors in our community. Clients are so appreciative of the ElderDog volunteers as it allows them to keep their furry friends with them as long as possible.”

Fosters play an important role at ElderDog Canada by providing safe and loving temporary homes for dogs during times of transition.

Instances that may bring a dog into foster with ElderDog include their owner being hospitalized or moved to a non-pet friendly residence or long term care facility. We are so grateful for incredible fosters
like Brenda, who open their hearts and homes to dogs in need!

"A friend introduced me to the ElderDog organization a little over two years ago. At first I didn’t really know how best to contribute to
supporting the cause, however; it didn’t take long to figure out that
fostering was my “niche”.

I’ve been blessed to care for, and spend time with, Beamer, Kiki,
Missym Daisy, Abby, Zack, Wally, and Brody. It really was a privilege
to offer a soft place to land for those sweet pups as they
transitioned from their former companions to their next forever home.

Building trust and respect with each of them was a journey I was happy to take. Although it was often difficult to hand them over to the care of their new companions, I was so happy they found a new family to call their own. My experience fostering for ElderDog has been so very positive and I will continue as long as they will have me."

Adoption Opportunity - Sophie is located in Calgary.

Sweet Sophie is still looking for a family to love, preferably one that has no cats. Located in Calgary, here is a repost of what we have shared about this wonderful girl: please reach out to Janet at [email protected] to learn more!

While the people at ElderDog Calgary, all my fosters and new fur friends have been amazing, it's really time for me to find a home of my own with people of my own that I can share my love with.
What can I tell you about me that you don't already know? First, I've been told my photos don't do me justice! When you meet me, you will just want to pinch me, but I prefer hugs. I am about 9 years old, but don't let my age fool you! I can be active and agile or I can be the best snuggle bug ever! I like to be with my people but I will respect the boundaries you give me. I am very obedient and a quick learner. I am quiet until Amazon stops by or you come home, but then I am quiet again. My bark means business, so a cat-free, detached home may be best for me.
I am not used to being on my own for long periods of time, but I am okay for a while, as long as I have something snuggly and soft to lay on. I eat well and I love celery!
I like my walks, and once I do my business I walk quite well, not too much phases me. I am a sniffer! Oh - and if you are a fair weather walker, that is ok with me. I don't like the cold too much. I have very short hair so my grooming needs are small and I really don't shed. I have the softest belly, so giving me belly rubs will be a pleasant experience for you!! My tail has three speeds - off, high and supercharged. When you talk to me it makes me happy and my tail will show you how much.
My eyes are sad, but my heart is full!! My goal in life will be to make you proud of me and shower you with love and kisses. There is so much to learn about me, so email Janet at [email protected] and see if we might be that perfect fit.

🐾 Happy Testimonial Tuesday! 🐾

Today we hear how Stan and his canine companion, Freya, are assisted through our Dog Care Support for Seniors Program.

"The ElderDog volunteers are my caregiving family that look after my dog, Freya. The volunteers check her all over, let me know if something is different in her walks, recommend a Vet appointment when needed, contact Freya’s Vet, and take her there. They pick up dog food for me, bathe Freya and groom her. All of this on top of all the walks they take Freya on! These are things I cannot do and I greatly appreciate this service that ElderDog provides. Freya has the best volunteers and we are so fortunate to have them. Thank you."

It's our favourite day of the week - Testimonial Tuesday! 🐾

"ElderDog is a truly wonderful organization. Their high standards and the
services they provide play a powerful role in our communities. Supporting seniors who adore their companion animals is most gratifying. I have had many meaningful experiences walking dogs and forming relationships with their owners. The rewards are great. Since my own beautiful dog travelled to the Rainbow Bridge in 2021, I now volunteer in her honour. ElderDog is very dear to my heart."

I retired from my job of 36 years about eight years ago. I expected to enjoy my retirement but for the first year I was absolutely miserable. Then one day on a walk with my own dogs, I saw an application for ElderDog Canada, which was posted on a mailbox on a house in my neighborhood. Since I absolutely love dogs, I thought this would be a perfect fit for me. I applied in late 2019 and in January of 2020 I began my journey with ElderDog.

It has been one of the most fulfilling experiences I have ever had in my life. In addition to spending time with these beautiful animals, I get to know their owners and have become very close with some of them. Being a volunteer is not only about walking the dogs, it’s about spending quality time with the owners who aren’t able to get out to walk their dogs so they can see people and socialize. It’s so very important that these people are able to keep their fur babies with them for companionship and their mental health. I love volunteering with ElderDog and I will continue to do so as long as I am able."

Hello! My name is Bella. I am a 2.5 year old beagle/lab mix and I am seeking my forever home. I am a joy to be around, full of pup energy and I love to play and walk outside. I won't turn down a car ride as I love the car and going places. When alone in the house I am most content in my crate. Sometimes I go there for my naps and to sleep as well. Cats and I are not best of friends but I am very happy around other people. I am good with children. I get quite excited to play so may need some supervision in case I knock a little one over. If you think I may be able to join your family please contact [email protected]

Local adoption opportunity from our Burnaby/New West Pawd!

Marley is a 12 year old corgi mix, looking for his forever home. He is currently living with his owner who is soon to be leaving the country permanently.

Marley is clingy and protective of his person and has some trust issues when meeting new people. It may take a little while for Marley to readjust to his person, however once comfortable he is playful in his surroundings. It is best that Marley is the only pet in his new home as he does not get on well with big dogs and cats.

Marley is house trained and neutered. He does have a heart murmur which was discovered in February 2023, he is not taking any medication. He is also missing his front teeth and suffers some month issues (gingivitis).

He walks well on a leash and listens to commands. When meeting new people it is best that he meets them outside of his home on the street before entering the house.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Marley, please contact Rosetta Mathe at [email protected].

Welcome to Testimonial Tuesday — an opportunity for us to share some of the amazing stories from the volunteers and clients of ElderDog Canada!

"My mother and I, due to unique circumstances, both suffer from mobility challenges that make it difficult to walk our dear Miss Pulga (aka Flea), the rock of my life!

Elderdog Guelph began walking Miss Pulga this Spring with a committed team of walkers, and we were so grateful for her to get some much needed exercise. They even took her to a private space to run and play!

Shortly after, I was relocated to a better facility for rehabilitation which does not allow dogs. With my Mom also in a care facility with no dogs, we were panicked about Miss Pulga.

ElderDog found a foster in record time and Miss Pulga has been in their care for the last three months and looks happy and healthy. Some of the walkers from Team Flea have continued to visit and walk her because they love her so much!

All of this love and care for Miss Pulga has been such a positive thing in my life, allowing me to focus on my health and recovery knowing Miss Flea is in good hands. We are grateful beyond words.

Thanks to the love and understanding of the team leader and walkers each of them has taken a piece of our heart and has become a part of our family."
