“The province (Manitoba) quietly suspended the licensing requirement for dog breeders more than a decade ago. CBC News learned the decision was made not long after Manitoba's Animal Care Act was amended in 2012, requiring more licensing and regular inspections from animal breeders.”

And now rescues and shelters are overwhelmed and broken trying to clean up the mess this has left behind. How many animals have suffered and continue to suffer due to lack of enforcement and government support?

🚨 Heat Warning 🚨

Manitoba is under a heat warning Thursday and Friday with temperatures expecting to exceed 40 degrees with the humidex.

Please ensure you and your pets stay hydrated and indoors as much as possible during these extreme temperatures. Stay safe with these tips:

- Make sure your pets have access to clean and fresh water and refill it regularly.
- Natural water sources like creeks and lakes are not enough to keep your pet safely hydrated.
- Do not allow your pet outdoor exercise and roaming during weather warnings, especially for heat.
- When outdoors, ensure your pets have access to shade and keep their trips outside short
- A dog house is not a source of shade; the heat inside the dog house will be significantly higher and dangerous in this weather.

If you are in Winnipeg and need access to clean water, there are bottle filling stations available that can be accessed 24 hours a day.

They are found at the following locations:

- 470 Selkirk Ave. (The Bell Tower)
- 185 Young St. (Broadway Neighbourhood Centre)
- Southwest corner of Stella Avenue and Main Street (near Mount Carmel Clinic)
- Northeast corner of Princess Street and Henry Avenue (near Siloam Mission)
- Southeast corner of Roslyn Road and Osborne Street
- 369 Furby St. (near Agape Table)
- Southeast corner of Maryland Street and Ellice Avenue (near Spence Neighbourhood Association)
- 190 Disraeli Fwy (near N'Dinawemak)

🦠🐾 Important Update: Rabies Alert 🐾🦠

Dear Pet Parents,

Recently, our community has seen multiple positive rabies cases. As your trusted veterinary clinic, we want to ensure you have all the information you need to protect your beloved pets and family.

What is Rabies?
Rabies is a deadly virus that affects the nervous system of mammals, including humans. It’s most commonly transmitted through the bite of an infected animal.

Why Vaccination is Crucial:

Life-Saving Protection: Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear. The good news is that the virus is 100% preventable with appropriate vaccination 💉

Community Safety: Vaccinating your animals helps prevent the spread of rabies in our community, protecting other animals and people.

Legal Requirement: In many areas, rabies vaccination is required by law for pets.

Vaccinate Your Animals: Ensure your animals are up-to-date with their rabies vaccinations. If you’re unsure, call us to check their vaccination status.

Approved rabies vaccines are available for cats, dogs, ferrets, horses, cattle and sheep.

Has your pet had a skunk encounter? 🦨💨 If there is any concern your pet may have been bitten by a wild animal, do not delay in bringing them in for evaluation. A booster vaccination may be required. In Manitoba, skunks are the most common carrier but ANY mammal, including people, can become infected.

Our Commitment:
We are dedicated to keeping your animals healthy and safe. Please call us at 204-444-3615 to schedule an appointment or to ask any questions you may have.

Let’s work together to keep our animals and community safe from rabies!
