As some know, my husband is a farmer. His bailer and tractor lit on fire this harvest. We’re so grateful him and his dad were both unharmed.
We also had a few set backs with various puppy and dog issues. It seemed as if one thing after another was building to create a struggle that I haven’t faced before in this venture.
Ironically, at the same time as my husband’s bailer and tractor were burning to the ground, an individual had found my personal phone number and was unrelentingly texting disgust regarding my choice to be a dog breeder.
I won’t bore you with the all the details, but this summer was a grind emotionally, financially and physically. Times like these are times of reflection.
Why do I choose to breed dogs?
Why do I lose countless hours of sleep helping one of my mamas feel safe during whelping?
Why do I spend countless hours cleaning, cleaning, cleaning to create healthy environments for my dogs?
Why, why, why...?
Since I was a little girl, I have loved dogs. I remember my first dog, Kenny. He was my best friend. That dog taught me millions of things and protected me from a myriad of different dangerous encounters. He knew when I was sad and would rest his head on my knee. He taught me that not all communication is verbal: in fact, very little is verbal.
Later I worked in a therapeutic program where children and youth who had experienced trauma were able to work with animals - they experienced noticeable and measurable improvements in their ability to cope and function and heal.
So my “why” is simple. I choose to produce dogs because I believe strongly in the benefit of the canine-human relationship; healing, greater confidence, companionship, protection, perseverance and respect to name a few.
Today, even after an incredibly difficult year financially, emotionally and physically, I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be part of so many different family’s journey in pairing you with a life long companion. My Kenny changed my world and it fills up my heart to see the love you have for the pups I send to you ❤️. It makes it all worth the grind.
