Today we pay tribute to Cece, who sadly passed away last night. Her family noticed she wasn't eating last night and after being rushed to the emergency vet, they couldn't save her.

Cece was a sweet bunny who was bonded to Bugs. They had a handful of fosters that didn't work out but finally got adopted by their foster who fell in love with them. Cece was too young and it's terrible to see her gone so soon. We are working with the family to help Bugs grieve and see if there is another bunny could potentially be bonded to.

Cece serves as a reminder that rabbits are exotics, and they can very suddenly fall ill and unfortunately pass. She will be terribly missed by her family and WRRR.

Hi! We are Pretzel and Aria and are searching for a reliable foster or forever family to call our own! 😊❤️

Pretzel, the big furry guy, is a beautiful Flemish/Lionhead mix. We rescued him last December with his three siblings. We were told the neighbour's were keeping rabbits but their enclosure was not secure, resulting in rabbits getting out and being found. Pretzel and his siblings were SO sick, they had a very bad respiratory illness accompanied with a lot of discharge coming from their nose and eyes. Pretzel is a big guy with a big personality. He loves attention, toys, and being the center of the spotlight.

Aria, his black bunwife, came from CHS, so we don't know a lot about her. We do know, that she is a kind rabbit who is very gentle. She is a little shy, and takes some patience while she warms up to the family, but after bonding with her she is genuinely the sweetest rabbit and loves getting gentle pets.

These two are looking for a home that can offer them enrichment and exercise time to run around the house. With Pretzel's killer hairdo, he needs some extra maintenance to make sure he isn't getting matted. These two need foster placement ASAP, they are currently staying with me and while I love them, they do not get along with my bunnies and there is conflict despite the barriers we have set up between them.

If you're in the Calgary area, and want to foster or adopt their beautiful, loving pair of rabbits, please head to our website and fill out an application!

In just the last few days, we have received SO many calls about people finding baby hares, a couple that were injured but most that were healthy and thought they were abandoned by their mother. As a domestic rabbit rescue, we are not the best people to call about wildlife, including wild hares/rabbits.

Finding this graphic by AWIC on Google, we are reminded to not accidentally kidnap babies that are being taken care of by their moms. If you find a baby hare in an unsafe place, like the road, it is fine to move them somewhere safe as long as it is nearby and their moms can find them.

If you find an injured baby, the best people to call is AWIC or a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

We got a call about this poor baby rabbit who was getting attacked by magpies. We will be taking him in. There is a group of dumped rabbits by his rescuer's house, and springtime often means babies being born. Unfortunately, because we are already completely full, I'm not sure we will be able to go out and catch his siblings, parents, and others in his group.

It breaks my heart that dumped rabbits have to go through this. Especially with Easter coming up, please educate your friends and family who are thinking of getting a rabbit on a whim.
🥬They can live for 10+ years
🐰They are exotic animals and require specialized veterinarians
🥬Rabbits need to get neutered. They are extremely prone to cancer. Rabbits who are not neutered can be more prone to being territorial (more chewing, digging, p*eing)
🐰They can't live in a cage 24/7 and need lots of enrichment and socializing to be happy
🥬Consider fostering a rabbit for a few months instead!

Donations for this little one can be made through our website or e-transfered to [email protected] ❤️

This is the little bun we got a call about, who is very clearly a cottontail which I noticed when I first arrived to pick him up. He has been dropped off at a wildlife rehab center.

It's quite an unfortunate situation, because the bun could of gotten help a lot sooner if there wasn't a miscommunication. The lady who reported him was referred by Alberta Fish and Wildlife who confirmed that he was a domestic rabbit and sent her to us. We are very happy to help pick up and transport the bunny, but he could of been brought to the rehab center much earlier if they recognized bunny was wild from the get-go.

We hope the bun is able to pull through. Big thank you to Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society for taking great care of this rabbit. Shoutout as well to Dr. Cheyenne and the team at Southpointe Pet Hospital for always fitting us in last minute. The couple of people who donated will be contacted to discuss where their donation will be going.

Gus is looking for her forever home. She was adopted from us last year, but was returned due to allergies.

Gus is a friendly and low-maintenence rabbit. Her foster says she is an absolute sweetheart and doesn't need much except a clean area with lots of enrichment. Gus would be happier with a bunny friend whom she can bond to and cuddle with. She also loves to chew, so bunny-proofing her area and making sure she has lots of toys will keep her a happy bun!

To read more about Gus, please visit www.wrrabbitrescue.com/available-rabbits/gus 🐰❤️ Families interested in adopting her can fill out the application which is also on our website.

Our sweet little man Stitch is ready to be adopted! He just healed from his neuter surgery and is ready to go home to his forever family.

Stitch has gotten a major upgrade in his life, from living in a small birdcage to a loving foster-fam and lots of room to zoom around. He is sure grateful and even loves to be snuggled in his foster-pawrent's arms. ❤️

Our adoption fee is a $100 donation which covers a small portion of the rabbit's care and medical fees. All of our rabbits are neutered and up-to-date on their RHDV vaccine.

Check out Stitch's adoption profile at this link: https://www.wrrabbitrescue.com/available-rabbits/stitch 🐰❤️ Head to our "adopt" page on the website to apply to adopt anyone of our rabbits.

Our precious girl Maya has finally found love!

Maya was rescued just over a year ago. She was dumped in Cranston during the winter with a couple other rabbits, who were unfortunately killed by vehicles after being chased into the road. She was a tough one to catch, incredibly small, fast, and agile. We had to return 3 different times and everytime she grew smarter and more evasive of us. We finally got her and while she hated me, she quickly grew warm to her foster family. All she needed was a little kindness.

She's been adopted by the most wonderful family who adopted one of the first bunnies we rescued during our first year of being founded. Pepe Le Pew and Maya have found love, and they make the most adorable couple! 🐰❤️

To support our journey to rescue and rehome more rabbits like Pepe and Maya, please consider donating to the cause or becoming a foster. For more information, visit our website at www.wrrabbitrescue.com 🫶🏽

Flopped Peanut pics! 🥜

Note: Rabbits should never be held on their backs as it induces something called 'tonic immobility'. The rabbit seems relaxed only because they're staying still, but holding a rabbit on their back causes serious stress. Peanut here is just a cutie who sometimes likes to flop on his back.

This is Babs and Tweety Bird! They are a bonded pair looking for their new foster or forever home 🐰❤️

A note from their current foster:
Babs and Tweety are a package deal. While Tweety might be more confident to explore, with Babs quickly tagging along, Babs is more inclined to head scratches and pats. Their favourite things include: eating, clean litter boxes and freshly cleaned blankets, and free roaming access. Their favourite time is the weekend where they get access to the house and will binky about until they tucker themselves out. Babs will often demand to be set free with her thumps and Tweety will pull at the bars of their x-pen with indignant grunts in anticipation of being let out. They are huge fans of food. Pellets, hay and greens will be gone in a flash. They eat both their hay and greens in their litter boxes. If given pellets in their dish Tweety often will rearrange their dinner as eating off the ground is her preferred option. Tweety is a professional redecorator and will move, flip and rearrange her cage until it is 'just right'. They both are fans of cardboard things to munch and throw, as well as bunny-safe toys to play with. Brown packing paper is their current favourite. They love each other very much and will often flop down together to nap the day away or they can be found grooming one another. They are both very sweet girls that prefer to stay where their paws can touch the floor, and they can come to you. They are working on their litterbox skills and have come a long way! Currently they will p*e 90% in their litter boxes and p**p 75% in their litter boxes. They do the best when their litterboxes are cleaned twice a day.

If you're interesting in welcoming these two cuties into your home, please apply on our website www.wrrabbitrescue.com 🫶🏽

Once again looking for foster placement for these sweethearts. They are being returned due to their owner moving out of country. Loki and Pretzel were recently adopted from us and Aria was adopted a couple years ago.

They are such sweet rabbits! But unfortunately us and the foster taking them in were under the impression they were 100% litter trained. We are hoping to find them a new place as soon as possible who is willing to help with the litter training process. The lady thinks they are so sweet but unfortunately does not have the means to potty train them.

If we do not have a foster home for all 3 of them we will have to consider splitting them up. This is the unfortunate thing about not having a shelter for all of our buns. Please PM us if you can help or you can go directly to our website and apply to foster, www.wrrabbitrescue.com 🐰❤️

These babies were found abandoned in a box near Airdrie. People are terrible, we are getting non-stop reports of people leaving animals places and to just put them in a box when it's this cold out... it's unspeakable.

Right now we have no where near the funds we would need to take care of these guys, not to mention no foster homes. Foster homes and donations are needed always, it is so heartbreaking to have to turn away so many.

The lady who found them is finding people to take them, which is amazing! But I always fear that with the lack of rabbit education they aren't finding homes that will be able to keep them for the 10+ years they live.

We are not sure what to do with these cuties.

This is our little friend that we rescued all settled into his foster home. He LOVES not being locked in a cage and having lots of room to jump around and exercise. He is a very curious and friendly bun.

If you'd like to help name this guy, please e-transfer a $1 donation to [email protected] with your name suggestion 😊❤️ We will put all the names into a hat and randomly pick one.

This is Boo! Boo's lovely family fostered him for a few months before he stole their hearts and became a part of their family forever.

Fostering can be a great experience ❤️ All the fun of having bunny friends without the 10-year commitment and expensive vet bills. It is also a great way to test the waters if you're thinking about adopting, but not sure if you have a suitable lifestyle (they are exotics after all!)

Boo's Backstory:
Boo was found dumped in Nosehill Park in a small kennel filled with his p**p and p*e. It was also winter time and WAY too cold for a bunny used to living indoors his whole life (assuming he was a housepet). The lady who found him was told by a different organization to bring him back to the park where he was found. After that, we knew we had to save him. Boo now lives a very spoiled life showered in all the love he deserves.

Attention Calgary Folk!

We need a foster ASAP for this bunny! More pictures soon to come.. Original foster home we had when we agreed to take him is not available anymore.

This sweet boy has not lived a very good life. Extremely neglected, went weeks without being touched, and cats were allowed to taunt him outside his cage. He is gorgeous and sweet rabbit, but we need a foster who will be patient and help him settle in.

We can supply everything except for his nightly salad. Please share with your friends and family. You can apply to be a foster on our website at www.wrrabbitrescue.com 🐰❤️

Hi guys! Not a lot of you know the person behind Wild Rose Rabbit Rescue, so here I am formally introducing myself.

My name is Gizelle and I started this organization during COVID. At that time, I was taking gap years between school and after finding my first rabbit Momo (who was dumped in Calgary), I directed almost all of my spare time outside of work to start this rescue.

After months of working hard to get WRRR's name out there, I felt like we were finally gaining some success. Our fundraisers were pulling in a decent bit of money, we were gaining consistent following, and we were able to save so many rabbits and find them great homes.

The past few months have been so hard for WRRR to continue to work smoothly. I'm now a university student and following my dream to one day become a veterinarian, and because of this I had to switch the rescue to being foster-based. It worked well for a while, but now I am at the point where many fosters are returning rabbits due to work, travel, moving. And in only the past 2 months I've gotten four rabbits who were adopted returned because their owners' lives are moving on without them. Not to mention we are getting ~10 inquiries every single week of newly dumped rabbits or owners who are trying to surrender pets they only got a few months ago.

We need foster homes to continue to run. There have been so many highs and lows in terms of support, and a lot of it is my fault as I don't have as much time to dedicate to public outreach. But now, a lot of my time is spent moving bunnies around and answering foster/adoption applications that ultimately go nowhere.

Fostering rabbits can be a great experience. We provide supplies and education. Rabbits don't require daily walks like dogs do. And while sometimes gaining their trust is tricky, it's a process that teaches patience and the love of a rabbit is so rewarding.

I need to keep my promise to the rabbits and work harder, but I hope I can show you all that this rescue cannot exist without support from our lovely community. It would be a dream to have shelter or a rabbit-cafe to foster them, but right now we don't have the finances to do that. 🐰💔

This adorable trio is still looking for a forever-home, OR a long-term foster. We can supply everything to the foster family other than their nightly salad. 🥬

Aria (black) and Loki (white) are independent rabbits. They look after each other and enjoy to spend their time alone and in love. Pretzel, who is much bigger than he is in this photo, loves attention and will seek it out.

Three rabbits sounds daunting, but because they keep each other company, they are not much more work than having a single bunny! These guys are also very good at using their litter box which minimizes clean up time. 🧹

We need to find a place for these guys to go ASAP! Their owner is moving to Europe and despite wanting to very much, she cannot take them with her. They are truly her prides and joys and she is heartbroken to leave them behind. Please share with your friends and family, Pretzel, Loki, and Aria need a home 🐰❤️

Please apply on our website at www.wrrabbitrescue.com to foster or adopt. We would be happy to answer any questions and educate new fosters/owners on how to care for their new friends.

Merry Christmas to our lovely family of WRRR supporters! We just know every bunny has been checked on Santa's nice list and hopefully given lots of toys and treats! 🎅

WRRR has been a little inactive the last little bit, but us and our fosters are still working hard and taking great care of the bunnies we currently have available for adoption. *Stay tuned for a post about why this is..*

Please consider sending a little present over to our bunnies. Many of them have been looking for forever homes for months. 🎄 https://www.wrrabbitrescue.com/donate

This sweet trio is looking for a new home! Pretzel, who was adopted earlier this year, Loki, who was adopted last year, and Aria who came from the Calgary Humane Society. Their owner is moving to Europe and we are hoping to find them a forever home or a long-term foster home.

Aria and Loki enjoy lounging around in each other's company. Pretzel is definitely the most outgoing of the group.

While the sound of owning 3 bunnies seems like a lot of work, they are actually not more work than a single rabbit! You are only cleaning one area as they all live together. And because they are bonded, they keep each other company which is great if you're a person who is out of the house a lot. All of the bunnies are litter trained.

If you're interested in adopting or fostering Pretzel, Aria, and Loki, please apply on our website or DM us! 😊

This is Scarlett 🐇 (previously known as Gus). She got adopted last year but due to her owner battling with allergies in their new home, she is being surrendered back to us.

Scarlett was one of the first rabbits WRRR ever rescued. She was rescued with her siblings and mom when she was just a week old. Her mom made the nest right next to a playground and kids were constantly taking the babies out and disturbing them.

Scarlett is the perfect free-roamed rabbit. She is totally litter trained and is not destructive. Her current owner said she doesn't even need to bunny proof with Scarlett. She loves cats, as you can see from her first photo. And loves food, no picky eating here. She has never bitten, has always been friendly and will only stay on carpet (helps confine her without the use of a fence) She just recently got her RHDV2 vaccine and annual exam in September, she's one healthy bun!

Scarlett is currently in Edmonton but her owner is willing to drive her down to Calgary. Scarlett also comes with all the supplies needed to care for her.

Apply to adopt Scarlett at www.wrrabbitrescue.com! 🐰❤️

22/10/2023

Today, we were reminded of the fact that we can't save every rabbit. And that fact is heartbreaking.

This morning, Gizelle received a call about a feral/dumped rabbit that was severely injured. She had been attacked by an animal and was left to die, being picked on by magpies.

We quickly picked her up and got her to our vet. We were so grateful that they could see her without any notice. After getting x-rays done, we learned that her scapula was completely shattered, and she had many different issues that she might have been suffering with for a while. Just to even get surgery done, she would need a lot of supportive care before her body could handle it. We ultimately decided we would euthanize her.

It was extremely difficult to contemplate whether euthanasia was the best choice. It is even more difficult to think that she wouldn't have suffered this fate if her or her parents were never dumped in the first place. This little bunny's life has reminded WRRR what goal we are serving, to rescue as many dumped rabbits as possible, and to ultimately stop rabbits from being dumped in the first place.

When you buy a rabbit, you become responsible for a life. Please do not dump them when you become bored of your rabbit and there is no rescue to take them.
