I haven't posted updates, sorry everyone!

Melody news:

We attended both winter EKKOC shows with Melody in tow. I showed her myself as an owner handler. The November show we had no competition but she did beautifully and I was very proud of her for winning the breeds.

The January show was a little more "bang for our buck" and we had two specials to compete against. Melody did well again taking another Breed Win for another 2 point major. This puts us at 6/10 required points.

Arthur news:

Arthur has been invited to NASDA Nationals here in Alberta! We will be competing in both Urban and Trail competitions and I am so excited to compete in my first ever national event. Arthur has been doing well with his obedience training and is almost really for rally competitions.

Crystal news:

The queen earned herself a NASDA invite off VERY limited trialing for the Urban competition. She's been enjoying the nosework I continue to toss her in and she's got a lovely indication.

Kennel news:
Not much. We are waiting for things to thaw for the summer events. I am excited to show off my new logo though!

Not sponsored just very impressed. We ordered the purple XS collapsible kennel from KJ Custom Dog Crates and wow it’s amazing. We can’t wait to take it to our first dog show. I like being able to downsize how much I bring to a show so this cuts out both a table and a grooming arm and still weighs less than my current wire kennel and table setup. I really like the small details like the spring loaded handles that don’t flop around and the beautiful color. So happy with the quality and the dogs love it too.

We had an amazing time at CKOC all breed show in Olds, Alberta this weekend. Melody entered the ring for the first time as a junior puppy playing in the big leagues with the adults. She was the only puppy so we have a blast playing in puppy group both Saturday and Sunday but no luck.

Sunday we won against two lovely little ladies for a big winners bitch prize of 2 points! Then moved up to take best of Opposite S*x. That’s her major out of the way which is amazing for her! The breed winner was a very very handsome 4 year old male so I had a feeling a 7 month old baby wasn’t going to even get a look but we sure did. I’m beyond proud of my little baby for trying her absolute hardest at this show.

We learned a lot and will keep training. Our next show will be AKC in august. We look forwards to seeing our amazing hound friends again soon! Thanks again to everyone who came up and said hi, Melody loved you all!! Thank you to the several veteran breeders who came up to tell me how amazing she is. I was so excited to hear your evaluations and encouragement!

We have a new addition to the team! Please welcome miss Melody! Freestyle’s Be Good To Yourself MW aka Melody will be joining us for conformation, sports, and fun. She’s fit in perfectly with my other two weens and I’m very happy with how well Wylie is handling something new biting his toes. Melody is an incredible addition to our kennel both in structure and in spirit and I’m so lucky her breeder has given us this opportunity. We look forwards to seeing our dachshund friends back in the rings soon!

A year in review for Polarose Dachshunds

Crystal decided not to compete against her niece in the conformation ring this year as we worked on rear end titles. We finished trail and locate and urban locate (NASDA) level 1 with 1 HIT per event. Remember she is competing against all breeds! We added TL-1 and UL-1 titles behind her name and are halfway to our versatility tracking and brace titles from NASDA. We will be doing ckc scent work in 2023 in hopes of CKC versatility titles. We are also working on her therapy dog credentials. When she comes into heat next we will be breeding her again but waiting on the nature clock who tends to be fickle!

Arthur crushed it this year also getting his trail and urban titles with HIT’s in both events. He ran several runs of brace and has 55 points towards it. He exceeded my expectations working with brace, I figured he’d be all play but he was ready to sniffy! I decided (despite several people telling me not to) to enter him at EKKOC this fall. Though he did so much better than I hoped I have doubts we will continue with conformation with the current competition. We will be continuing with NASDA in hopes of competing in the nationals. We will also be working on ckc nosework, rally, formal, and he is now a service dog in training for gluten detection.

I am so proud of what the three of us have accomplished together. Even through the worst days these dogs are my little rays of sunshine. I am so proud of my dachshunds for showing the Alberta crew what wires can really do!

Arthur is very excited to go back into the ring after over a year off to gain some confidence and earn some back end titles. He’s done so well and I can’t wait for him to show his stuff this weekend. Our goal is a tail wag for the judge, we aren’t going for any prizes. At the end of the day I know I’m leaving with the best dog 🥰

Day two went amazing. Both weens blew me out of the water. Crystal ran a level 1 and level 2 brace as a by dog (not entered just a pair for the entered dog) and was working that trail like a little bloodhound. Of course she scored 2 more perfects scores on her urban, for she is queen. She did amazing. She is seriously going places in this organization 🥰

Arthur also did incredible! He did what I trained him to, watched me in an open field and did do a good amount of short distance work. We need to do much longer distances, the judge was making us stand so far back I felt like I was running a lab in field dog haha. But Artie rose above and he came right back when I asked. When I sent him down the line and I followed (because of dq on time) he rannnnn for those gerbils and shoved his snoot into the box. Good dog. His trail runs were all literally perfect. Couldn’t ask for better.

That’s right!! Both weens finished their Trail and Locate 1 and Urban Locate 1 with multi Best of Breeds between them and Arthur got a High in Trial.

I am so happy with how well they did!!! Both weens LOVE the game and in fact Arthur far surpassed my expectations and will continue to compete for level 2 and level 1 excellents. He had several runs under 20 seconds and I sprinted through one trial run 😆

Crystal, exactly as I expected, crushed it taking best of breed over titled dogs her first time in the field. She was methodical but still most of her times were well under time limit. She was the only one (of mine) to trial Urban Challenge, and scored 5th in a big class earning 29 points for her “no talking” challenge where you can not say a single word of encouragement to the dog.

I am absolutely over the moon to announce: new GRAND CHAMPION GCh Wagswell’s Raise Your Glass MW ETD

We finished in camrose and I didn’t even know it.

It’s been a long road, a lot of money, lots more tears, and a huge learning curve. I am so proud that I put 25 points on this dog (actually I personally put 18 points on her). Thank you so much to all the judges who supported and awarded us. Thank you to the competitors who stood by us, and of course thank you to Loren for the opportunity to show, love, groom, and train this magnificent breed.

I am so so so so proud. She’s not getting a steak, but she might get an extra big dinner tonight (shhh she earned it!)

Both dogs did very well at the hotel over the four day show cricut. Crystal took home three more grand champion points, even pointing over a special. She shared some points too though, and we had a great weekend making new friends and connecting with old friends. Arthur did his best, but we had a little chat and decided to put him away for confo for a year, he is perfect in my eyes, but we will focus on other titles for a while. We aren’t sure what shows are in store for us this fall, but we are so happy to be a part of the family that is my

Miss ween had a blast hunting gerbils today in her first earthdog trial. I was very proud of her for finding the gerbils in the most cheater ways possible haha. Next time we will get some Q’s!
