When a dog we helped welcome into the world crosses the Rainbow Bridge, it affects not only the family that has chosen them as their lifelong companion, but it resonates deeply in this house as well.
It's inevitable that all life will come to an end but often it is in the most unfair of fashions, and while most of our owners do keep in touch, it's not always clear to them as to why the end has come. Some owners are aware ahead of time that there are issues, others not so much due to no known history of any illness.
I need to acknowledge the life, and the death, of any dog born here so that I can grieve in my own process. I need to bring closure to the little life that I held in my hands the day they were born and that we nurtured, trained, socialized, cuddled and prepared for their new life in the short time we were able to keep them here.
On that note, I have been made aware of 2 losses in the last week.
McGraw the red tri (Cinder x Oliver) left his people and gained his wings very suddenly and without warning on June 20th. He leaves behind his completely devastated humans, who have to figure out how to carry on without him.
Hobart (Babe x Darren) had undergone surgery where removal of his spleen had occurred, but other unfavourable clues were found at the time. He bounced back to himself, then took a turn for the worse that warranted letting him go across the Bridge on June 24th to prevent him from suffering. Hobart has been loved by his people for many years and now leaves them behind, as well as his housemate Winty (Cora x Carter) who are all having to now navigate life without him.
As much as it hurts to make these posts, I not only acknowledge the dog's life but I take the opportunity to express how thankful I am to the owners for informing me of their passing and allowing me to grieve as well.
We really did love them first. Every one of them. ❤
