I’ve been so inactive! Life’s been crazy. Here’s one of my last Flemish litter trouble makers!
Old man rico hard at work . His coat may be shaggy and he’s a bit more sore than he used to be, but still young at heart.
Happy Canada day from very beautiful willow!
Some New Zealand babies that went out with momma to the grass today 🌱
I’ve recently started feeding wheat fodder to the rabbits to help with the feed bill, and give the breeders a bit more variety in their diet, and they choose the fodder over their pellets EVERY time. Easy to grow! Very much worth it!
Some of the older boys enjoying some grass 🌱
I’ve got some pure New Zealand’s available, 3 male 2 female, average 3.7-4.5 lbs at 10 weeks old.
Little rabbit info post.. I’m going to try do one a week.
Let me know if there’s topics you would like me to cover.
With the hot weather beginning, it is important to keep your rabbits cool, out of direct sun and with good ventilation, and as always fresh water 24/7.
Shade from trees or such is the best cover if you’re raising your rabbits outdoors, as tarp can prevent proper ventilation and air flow, which is just as fatal as the heat can be. Other methods to cool down rabbits are .. ceramic floor tiles , cooled in fridge or freezer, and then layed out for the rabbits to lay on, frozen water bottles, put in the cage whole for the rabbits to lick or lay against (easily reusable) , and freezing balloons with water, peeling if the plastic before use, and putting the ice orb in the water bowls to keep the water cool, and for them to lick.

Currently count is at 80 rabbits .. 😬 mindys growing the number by the minute
The big black kit is a day younger, litter of 4 with 2 does feeding the litter. The other is older, in a litter 9 with a first time doe. I should had fostered, but wanted to see what the doe was capable of.
Big chunks is only 5 days old.. the whole litter looks like that
4 Flemish males looking for now homes.. I’ll have one more male and one female in the next few weeks, but because this was such a big litter I’m letting them get bigger first. These guys are all between 3.3 -3.6 lbs at 8 weeks.
The babies aren’t only in the rabbitry! Everyone has babies on the farm. It’s that time of year!
After cleaning it out, and letting it air for a few weeks, the grow outs pen is back in action. Only 6 in here so far, in a few weeks the Flemish giants will be joining them.
We had to do some changes, as the last time they were in here we had 5 rabbits total disappear. So wire was added to the window on the building to hopefully deter predators.
I think the little dude in the middle is gonna end up my pet! So much smaller than the rest of them! Super cute
This is what a healthy kit looks like, this is from the same litter. Notice how the midsection is rounded, and no wrinkles which indicates it is hydrated. When I put it back, snipet was feeding her litter, so this one was even fuller afterwards.
Many believe you should not touch a new litter of rabbits for multiple days or even a week, however I don’t believe that to be true.
It is very important to check the health and condition of your kits, especially in large litters you often get kits that can’t compete. In this case , this is one of snipets babies, I fed the baby from the doe ( flipping her on her back) and fostered her into Sylvia’s nest, with only 6 kits. Now 7. And we will see how it progresses in there.
Signs to tell a kit is not doing well, is the wrinkled skin and slim belly, I will later post a healthy kit that is getting full feedings and you will be able to see the difference. This kit also had urine scalds from being at the bottom of the nest.
Everyone’s so happy in the sun ☀️
Don’t mind the dirty water, the babies use it as a swimming pool 😅
Hank only wants the pets or the food, no in between!
Hannah getting ready to give us my first purebred New Zealand litter on the 17th!
She got moved into a more appropriate pen for kindling, and was given lots of straw for building her nest. Thankfully this week is beautiful outside!
This is snipet. A daughter of Sylvia and rico She is an absolutely rockstar. She’s nearly 2 years old, has had 5 litters, containing of 12,12,11,10,8.
Good momma every time. So she gets a post just for her 🙂 expecting a litter on the 20th to my pure New Zealand buck.
With it being nice and sunny out, I figured I’d give a little Rabbitry tour! I currently have 16 breeders ( including my 4 bucks) and with kits it makes my total count 35.
With 4 does due on the 18th and 20th, and another 2 due this time next month I’ll be quite busy with the rabbits!
Feel free to ask questions, and don’t mind the rambling!
12 babies and not one grey ☹️
However there’s some pretty cute baby noises
I recently added 3 more Flemish giants to the pack, this is one of the males, I’m very excited to moving closer to show quality rabbits!
Why would you wait to be fed when you can just help yourself?
Tom is the king of the Rabbitry , and is such a good boy he gets to have run of the shed.
Breakfast time! Everyone’s getting so big!
This guy is looking for a pet home. He came to me with some other rabbits from a breeder, but personally I think he’d be happier in someone’s home. He was a house rabbit before the last owner, unsure of breed. VERY sweet. Child friendly. I can meet in Saskatoon or you can come pay him a visit! I’m unsure if he’s neutered, but he should have his jewels showing and he doesn’t, so I’m leaning towards him being neutered!
He came with his nails very long, and will be trimmed shortly!
Please shoot me a message if you want to know more info about this guy! He deserves a great home!
( don’t mind the mess in the shop! This was a temporary set up 🙂 )
All the babies from end of September / beginning of October are getting big! The straw house keeps them very warm in this cold!
This is Brendas bunny willow! She looks like she’s all ready for Christmas! She is from Anne’s last litter ☺️
Merry Christmas everyone!
