If you live in the Okanagan, please consider supporting the Okanagan Humane Society as a foster home or with donations. All rescues are overwhelmed currently with huge numbers of kittens, but with the closure of the Vernon BC SPCA, the Okanagan Humane Society needs some extra help. In fact, wherever you are, please support your local rescue! This summer has been really tough and we all need more fosters and funding.
Frankie is fabulous! He is easy going and gets along with other cats, dogs, and kids. However, he can also be a single cat in a home with older adults. He is a real sweetheart who loves chin rubs. At 9 years of age, Frankie is a lower energy cat who is content to just hang out. He needs to stick to his strict diet to keep his blood sugar at normal levels and to keep his weight down. Nix was born in early 2022. He is a shy, but sweet black-coated cat who loves to quietly relax the days away. He's looking for a patient adopter to help him feel safe. While Nix is still a little nervous at times, he loves to be petted and is becoming more comfortable every day. Nix would prefer a calm environment without children or other animals where he can build confidence at his own pace. He is a perfect adult companion. Stanley the Manly was a feral street cat who has transformed into a handsome man cat who loves attention - even more than treats! He can still be a little shy, but once he trusts you, he will follow you seeking attention. He will greet you, rub against you, and give you head butts. Stanley loves his furry friends and would do well with a feline companion. He isn't super into being picked up yet, but we are working on that. Ghee is a sweet boy with a lot of charm. He is very friendly and playful with other cats and gets along well with people, although he can be timid at first. He enjoys getting pets and is getting better at being picked up. In time he will probably grow into being a snuggly lap cat. He has no special needs and is ready to find his forever home. Ghee has a cheeky sense of humour and sometimes hides under the table, playfully poking your feet with his paws as you walk by. He was born in April 2023. Buddy is an under socialized older cat who needed some help. He has a head tilt and has been living with a bilateral chronic ear infection for some time. He also had a small mass on his forehead below his ear. Initial exam by Dr. Peytchev at Kamloops Veterinary Clinic revealed a very large polyp obstructing one ear canal and copious amounts of smelly pus and debris in both ears. Buddy needed to see a specialist at VCA Canada Tri Lake Animal Hospital & Referral Centre to have the polyp removed and his ears cleaned up.
Yesterday was the big day! We packed up Buddy and the baby (video of her first 'Road Trip bottle') and headed out to Lake Country. Buddy had a CT scan and then a procedure to remove the polyp. The infection in both ears is severe, down to the bone, but Dr. Gibson was able to remove almost all of the polyp and clean up his ears. She also removed the little mass from his forehead. The procedure took some time and Buddy wasn't ready to come home till about 7 pm. He has pain medication and will be on a long course of antibiotic, a steroid to hopefully prevent polyp regrowth, and some ear drops. Buddy will then need to have a dental procedure to likely remove some bad teeth.
Buddy is a very special guy. It is amazing that he has improved so much socially when he has obviously been suffering with those stinky ears.

Sun Rivers Gives to Sammy's
Some of the residents of the beautiful Sun Rivers community had a dinner event, “Sunshine and Wine”, at Masons. Every attendee made a donation and Sammy’s Forgotten Felines was selected to receive the total donation of $1100.00! WOW!
It looks like everyone had a great time with a fabulous dinner and HUGE benefit to Sammy’s. Thank you to everyone at Sun Rivers who donated!

A very nice young lady found an injured momma cat and her 5 newborn kittens under a boat at Pinantan Lake. We believe momma cat was hit by a car and sadly, she passed away. We are so grateful that Ashlynn took these little orphans in and contacted us. Bottle feeding 5 newborn kittens is a big job. At this age, they require feeding every two hours. Sammy’s is run by very dedicated volunteers who take these challenges on. Thank you, bottle feeder, Gayle! We have many other volunteers working in all capacities to keep Sammy’s afloat. Tonight's Adventure: trapping a cat with a badly broken leg in hopes of getting him to the vet ASAP. We have named him Sage and as you can see, he has been suffering from this terrible injury. We know this injury was recent as a nice lady named Dayna watches over him. Dayna contacted us on Wednesday when she noticed Sage was hurt and we worked out a plan to catch him. Sammy’s feral cat colony is located just outside of Kamloops. This colony has existed for the last 15 years and although several organizations have tried to rescue these cats, they have never managed to get every cat and the colony inevitably grows again. In 2015, one organization pulled 100+ cats from this property.
In the fall and winter of 2019, we decided enough was enough. We are a small group of women experienced in animal welfare and have managed to trap 68 cats to date and will not stop until we get the remaining 8 to 10 and put an end to this cycle. We have had the privilege of working with Kamloops Ruff Start Rescue, the Lower Mainland Humane Society, Embrace a Discarded Animal Society, Katie’s Place, Shuswap Paws Rescue Society, Critteraid, RAPS Cat Sancutary, C.A.R.E.S. Canadian Animal Rescue and Extended Shelter, Tranquille Road Animal Hospital, and The Visiting Vet who have helped us with trapping, veterinary costs, and have found homes for these cats.
We started this page to help with fundraising. We currently have 8 cats in foster homes and some require medical treatment. There are still 8 to 10 cats at the property that will need to be spayed or neutered and treated for any medical issues.
