Please do not salt your hides before bringing them to a taxidermist, ESPECIALLY if you are throwing that hide in the freezer.

For the same reason you use salt on your driveway to melt the ice in the winter, salt will inhibit the hide's ability to freeze, leaving it raw and rotting in your freezer, and likely not to be usable once you bring it to us.

To ensure a your hide is preserved properly, try to get the hide off the animal as soon as possible after harvest. From there you have a few options:

1) Bring it to us immediately. We can see the raw specimen and handle it from there.

2) Fold it (don't roll it) skin to skin, keeping the head on the outside, place in an airtight bag (garbage bag twisted at the top is fine) and put in the freezer until you can bring it to us.

If you are in the unfortunate circumstance where your hide is unusable, we do have some available supply capes for purchase.

One day my client trapped these two animals in the same set and then had a vision in mind for a mount. She asked me to create this scene of a Fisher chasing a Weasel. It was really cool bringing this idea to life. Custom projects like this are some of the most favorite and satisfying creations.
