Showing care for your horse involves more than just words or thoughts; it's about expression through your voice, facial expressions, and body.

I virtually coach a lot of trainers who struggle with their bodies.

They say things like, "I can't get there soon enough." or "My aids are mixing things up, and I don't have enough precision."

And when they discover the stability that needs to be in place, along with the energy you offer from your spine and center, it all works!

The horses respond. We may not be perfect, but we don't need perfection; we need to be open to adapting.

Training a horse can sometimes feel like you're being tossed around in a sea of endless advice, flashy gimmicks, and the latest "must-do" trends. And nothing really works or gets to the heart of what you're craving with your horse: genuine, actionable change.

That's exactly why I decided to start my online university. Not as just another online course or a feel-good chat session...
..but as a real, quality education where we cut through the endless stuff and get straight to the skills that actually make a difference in your journey of progress with your horse.

I'm open to new students joining at the end of June. I want to share with you some of what I've learned in 5 decades ( yes, a long time!) of speaking the language horses speak.

You want clarity? A chance to really listen for what you truly want for you and your horse so you're not copying some guru's method. You want to know what to focus on depending on your stage of your interactions with your horse and get advice you can actually act on immediately?

P.S. Just a little nudge, because we all need one sometimes: real transformation starts with the first bold step. Let's chat!

Guide your horse into knowing, experiencing, and feeling their own coordination of their bodies...

It's not true that you have to make the right thing easy and the wrong thing difficult when horse training; making is controlling, and that's a human construct you have been taught.

It's not true that horses need a boss; bossing is dominance leadership, which you may have experienced, and horses don't see things that way.

It's not true that you need horse kisses to feel safe; you were already insecure before your horse crossed your path.

It's not true that your horse is your everything; you were already hurt before your horse came into your life.

It's not true that horses heal your traumas and challenges; you already have the latent pain waiting for resolution. And that work is not for anyone but yourself.

In class, my student said, "I have the clarity to have more meaning for my horse."💃

What does riding your horse in flow mean to you?

My girl was finally ready last year for more canter work, and she's getting the idea of how to balance herself in the canter❤.

She's been brought along very slowly, careful work on building strength, coordination and straightness is the key. It was so easy for her to use her flexible body in so many different directions.

It's been difficult for this mare because she is hypermobile as well as hypervigilent...I love this hyper-awesome mare!

As we prepare to welcome 2024, let's plan to not only live through the year but to truly cherich each moment, while nurturing the special connection we have with our horses.

Many influential horsepeople have stated the importance of "feel”, "energy", and "intention" to successful work with horses.

But how can such intangible skills be developed? Is there a roadmap or guide to help us to cultivate the type of communication and presence appreciated by horses?

Not until now, but now there is!

Our programs are created to guide you in establishing these creative and harmonious moments with your horse, that then spill over into your personal life.

Vega horse, the bright star!

Twenty years ago, destined for the slaughter house (due to the fact that she broke out of her stall and charged the head trainer at the track) this petite Thoroughbred mare's path was intercepted.

Feisty and quirky, Vega was not popular among her previous owners or racing trainers, so off to the auction she was sent.

After that fateful day we found out that there was a fork in her destiny...she was either going to the slaughter house or the auction, where I saw her.

She was offered a home with my family. She was loved by all of us. A bright star in the jumper world she absolutely loved jumping. Her small frame and incredible commitment to her rider radiated as she performed her quick turns and ground-covering gallop stride.

I honour this girl, today, the day she died two years ago.

I'm so excited to share with you what I've been working on...💃🐴

Winter is here now, snow clings to the tops of tree branches making odd sculptures. The air is crisp and cool, smells like winter as I watch my exhale breath float away. I walk my mare up to the arena, she perceives...

"Everything looks different, and I can smell the lingering coyote hair in that print in the snow over there.

And the sounds, I can hear so much more today. The crunch over there, the slide back home, the ti**le of the ice on the roof."

We enter into the indoor arena.

"Oh, what at relief, I can walk easily now. I feel connected to the earth. My body can ground.

But, the falling snow on the roof, it's almost like an echo, I hear two sounds rather than the usual one."

My mare's default under stress is always to go forward. So we go forward.

I warm up with her in-hand, she finds calm until the next distraction fills her senses.

I mount and we further explore movement together.

"It's fine to walk, but not lateral yet. I can't focus."

"Yes, let's walk and trot until it feels easier for you to be here with all of the interference."

Long exhale, more calm, but still the diversions happen.

"Can you follow me, embody with me, a shoulder in?" Can you parallel what I'm doing? Yes, I feel you. Let's see if we can move sideways together on the circle. I know you want to look out the door, you like to see what's going on, at a distance. Can you lengthen, lift, feel me?"

"Okay, that's fine, I can manage that."

We dance the shoulder in on the circle a few strides, I can feel her becoming more and more sticky with me.

At the start of this very scary, spooky ride, I wasn't sure what would happen, where it would go. And by the end of the ride we danced a cautious piaffe together, sang in our half pass at a trot, and collected our trot with expression.

What I can say other than the tasks we performed was I wasn't thinking about cues of any description. I wasn't focusing on footwork in the slightest. I didn't do any kind of
pressure release, and I certainly didn't communicate in terms of signals.

What I did instead was what I teach in my program, the absolute fundamentals before any type of aids or cues are used. This is what we need to know as riders - how to feel.

When you ride, do you know what kind of feel you are working towards? Do you have a process to move from your thoughts to your actions with feel? Will that process help you to problem solve
instantly, in the moment when you need it on a spooky day?

Do you have precision techniques that are a daily practice for you? Do you view yourself with compassion, acknowledging your emotions, and then have a process to clear and enjoy?

Do you know how to find your place of potential in the saddle, immediately, and do you know what to do to get it back when it's lost?

Can you practice discernment in all you do, even when it's scary? Can you feel rhythm in yourself and your horse? Can you see from your mind's eye?

If not, there's more to feel. ❤

My Story

Everyone endures difficulties with their horses and in life generally.

👎Sometimes life is pretty darn difficult. It seems like there’s no way out of the dark tunnel...no light even at the other end.

Have you experienced that?

Some time ago I received a major back injury that completely changed my life. All that was familiar to me vanished. I became the equivalent of a paraplegic...not exactly, but pretty darn close😢
