Happy Spring everyone! ๐ท๐
We are a small-scale parrotlet breeder in the North Okanagan, BC, registered with the AACC. We do not clip our birds' wings unless requested.

(Resources such as care tips and information on our birds and future clutches/available chicks.) As a registered member of the Avicultural Advancement Council of Canada (the AACC), our goal is to breed and raise healthy Pacific parrotlets (Forpus coelestis) to promote the good genetic variation within the species. We engage in ethical breeding, and all of ou
r birds are also considered our pets. Our birds get 10-12 hours of free flight time daily, and this also applies to fledglings who are practicing their flight skills. All birds have access to a play area and a window. All of the birds are on a diet consisting around 80% of pellets and 20% of daily servings of fruit and vegetables. Additionally, they get fresh water once or twice a day. Chicks, who typically spend 5 to 7 weeks being hand fed (starting anywhere between 1 and 3 weeks of age), are weaned onto the same diet as all the other birds. The minimum age for a bird to get adopted is 8 weeks. This is assuming that they have fully weaned (the chick has demonstrated at least for a week that it can eat on its own without fluctuations in weight). All chicks have a file with detailed information about their colour/mutation, age, growth and development, daily weight and other possible details. Our baby parrotlets come with basic care tips and information, sample food, and a hatch certificate stating the bird's hatch date (and time), individual registered leg band code, colour/mutation, and the parents' mutations. If you have any questions about your bird later or just want to tell us how you and your feathered baby are doing, please don't hesitate to contact us! Shipping is usually possible, as is pick up (however, please note that we do not have visiting hours, so please contact us well in advance before visiting). In some cases, we might also be able to deliver your bird to you if feasible (BC only and within ~300-400 kilometres). Thank you for reading!

Happy long weekend! ๐ Here are some updates on the babies. Many of them can fly already, and they are also weaning fast.

Our summer is busy with a record number of babies soundly sleeping in the brooder! While the older ones are already starting to figure out how to perch, others are only now opening their eyes, witnessing the bustle.

Well, it turns out that our little girl has become a mama. This is Luna - our first parrotlet - and her first baby. ๐ฃ

Friends, please be careful if you take your birds outside to make the most of these gorgeous, sunny days, as avian influenza is everywhere. Also make sure that your carrier is escape proof (unless you have a baby like Willow, who can no longer fly - Willow gets to come out of the cage for a little while ๐).
Happy Easter and spring time from our parrotlet babies! ๐ฃ๐
Happy St. Patrick's Day! ๐๐ Today marks the 1st anniversary of us becoming a small-scale breeder as a consequence of a rescue mission that changed our lives and the lives of the rescued parrotlets in question.
In February 2021, McBitey and Braum came to us from a pet store after they had started building a nest and laying eggs. And, a few weeks later, on St. Patrick's Day, their first ever two chicks hatched.
You can now read more about their story on our website at cretaceouscritters.com ๐
๐น Happy International Women's Day to all the incredible women out there! ๐น Here's the powerful matriarch of our aviary, McBitey.
This week (Feb 20-26) was Bird Health Awareness week. Parrots are high-maintenance pets that are not the easiest to keep happy and healthy, but due to the fact that we have domesticated many psittacines species, we are now responsible for their adequate care. Parrots are not the right fit for every household or lifestyle; having birds IS a lifestyle.
Having a bird may require for you to change your frying pans, your heaters, or your cleaning habits. Many household cleaners are toxic to birds, as are most fumes and fragrances.
Remember to feed your feathered friends mostly high-quality pellets, and supplement their diets with different vegetables (leafy greens are the best option), and sometimes fruit and berries. Beware of dangerous and toxic food items. Provide your birds with calcium and other minerals that might be lacking in their diets, and remember that having a UVB light is essential to their health and well-being. Give them around 12 hours of undisturbed sleep and complete darkness every day to promote good health and to prevent behavioural problems. Oh, and don't forget to keep your friends' cages clean! Having a weekly cleaning schedule and routine could be helpful.
