These two siblings have just joined us for a 6-week Board & Train, and they’re on a shared mission: learning how to navigate the world with more confidence, clarity, and calm.

Both Luna and Louis are working on improving their safety and reactivity, developing stronger recall, building impulse control, and creating clear, consistent boundaries in their day-to-day lives.

We’re excited to guide them through this journey and help set them up for long-term success in and out of the home.

Today we’re celebrating the land we love with our paws on the ground and hearts full of pride.

Our board and train dogs are working hard, even on holidays, building obedience, confidence, and calm through structure and training.

This weekend, we stepped away from our usual routine to dive into an incredible Working Dog Seminar—and wow, our team and the dogs showed up and put in the work.

From controlled obedience to drive-building and bite work, it was an action-packed experience focused on developing clarity, confidence, and control in our dogs.

Seminars like this are such an important (and fun!) way to continue growing as trainers, sharpening our skills, and bringing fresh insight back to the dogs we work with every day.

Welcome back, Dozer! 🐾 This handsome 3-year-old German Shepherd is no stranger to training—he’s worked with us before, and now he’s back for a 4-week board & train to tackle some new goals.

This time around, we’re focusing on reducing reactivity toward people and dogs, improving recall, and building better impulse control—especially around distractions and prey animals. Dozer is also working on growing his confidence, as he tends to be wary of new people, other animals, and even random objects.

We’ve reintroduced structure with threshold work, are building duration on his place command ,and helping him walk more calmly on leash. Dozer’s been making great progress and is settling into the routine beautifully.

He’s happiest during one-on-one sessions and absolutely loves chilling in his place bed while observing the world around him❤️❤️

Say hello to Lyra! This 5-year-old German Shepherd is back with us for a 2-week Board & Train to continue working on her reactivity.

She’s been part of the Grassroots K9 Ottawa fam since 2021, consistently training through a mix of Board & Train stays and private sessions with to keep her progress on track

Lyra loves long walks, cozy naps, and family strolls! and she’s always down for a salmon treat or two

We’re heading back to Andrew Haydon Water Park this Tuesday, June 10th at 6:30 PM for another structured group walk—and we’re keeping the location the same because everyone loved it last week!

It’s a great opportunity to fine-tune leash manners, work on engagement, and practice calm socialization with other dogs and handlers in a beautiful real-world setting.

🐾 Meet Cooper

Cooper is a 4-year-old Cockapoo and a long-time member of the Grassroots K9 Ottawa community, first joining us in 2022. He’s currently back for a refresher while his owner is away, and it’s been a pleasure having him with us again.

Cooper is a great example of how consistent, real-world training can lead to long-lasting results. During his stay, we’re reinforcing foundational skills and ensuring he stays sharp and confident in his routines.

🐾 Meet the Dog Monday: Kylo! 🐾

Kylo is back with us at Grassroots K9 Ottawa for a 10-day refresher stay! He’s no stranger to our program, and this time around we’re focusing on a few key areas:

✔️ Reducing growling around strangers—especially women—and during transitions like the end of playtime
✔️ Polishing up his leash manners and walking etiquette
✔️ Building more confidence when socializing with unfamiliar people and dogs

We’re excited to continue working with Kylo and help him stay on track with his training goals!
