As all of you have noticed and probably seen our previous post....we removed Opal from our adoptable animals when we found out the devastating news that she was suffering from "Severe Bilateral Hip Dysplasia".....WELL....today we received the call that we were waiting for from Dr. Rocheleau from Espanola Animal Hospital in Chelmsford. In keeping with our promise to you about being transparent about our animals...here we go
AS OF TODAY we are starting our "Loonies for Opal Campaign" because this sweet 5 month old girl deserves everything that we can do to make her a puppy again. The following is a transcript from the email that was sent to us:
Please find attached your receipt for the $1250.00 deposit paid for the workup appointment. To summarize our phone conversation, Opal is booked in for an orthopedic workup and surgery the next day. During the work-up, you will have a consultation with Dr. Rocheleau in which he will take a detailed history, perform an physical and gait exam, and take radiographs for surgical planning under a light sedation. Dr. Rocheleau will then review the radiographs with you and the recommended treatment plan. The cost of the orthopedic work-up is $750.00 plus HST. Any prescribed medications, diets will be available at an additional cost.
You are booked for September 30th at 10:30am for the workup and October 1st at 8:00am for the surgery.
The THR procedure is $6500.00 plus medication and HST. Post-op suture removal is at no cost if done at our hospital. Post-op radiographs are not included in the cost of surgery and will be a flat rate of $350.00 plus HST if completed at our hospital. Should the orthopedic workup indicate that Opals' orthopedic problems require surgery, there is a $1000.00 deposit required to book. Please note that this deposit is fully non-refundable in the event of a cancellation, no-show or request to reschedule.
So, as you can see, we are being transparent with you, all of our supporters. All of the costs that are in this post are for only 1 of her hips....she will have a 3 to 6 month recovery time between surgeries. Please keep a look out for "Loonies for Opal" donation jars in Geraldton and Longlac (both in Greenstone) and we are hoping to be able to get some in Thunder Bay as well....so if you could find it in your heart to help us give this sweet girl the chance at being a puppy and living a good long life, please consider a donation towards her upcoming surgeries
Donations can be email transferred to [email protected] and could you please put in the details "Loonies for Opal"

Coming soon...just a few details to add 🥰 all for Want A Pet?
We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to one of our board members and her daughter who sadly had to put not one but two of their beautiful dogs down yesterday.
We are so very sorry and we wish we could take the sadness and hurt way.
“A pet's love may be brief, but their memory lasts a lifetime.”
RIP Sasha and Charlie. 🩵🐾~T
WE NEED YOUR HELP‼️
Last night we had a medical emergency with one of our fosters.
Piper was shaking in pain. She would not move and when we touched her she was in obvious distress.
We were extremely worried when we felt a baseball sized lump in her abdomen.
She was rushed into Thunder Bay to the emergency vet, where it was determined that she is suffering from mastitis. She must’ve had a sudo pregnancy after her last heat.
We can not express the importance of spaying (and neutering) your pets‼️ This all could’ve been avoided. Untreated, mastitis can kill.
This is in addition to getting some extremely bad news about Opal last week as well. She has severe bilateral hip dysplasia and will need surgery. We are awaiting a consult with a specialist. This surgery could cost us upwards of $14000. 😞
We are reaching out to all of our wonderful supporters for help with our vet bills. Please consider helping us out.
Any donation over $20 will receive a charity tax receipt (please send us a message with your full name, address and phone number for the receipt)
Etransfers can be sent to [email protected]
As always, thank you so much for your continued support. We can’t do what we do without you. 🩵🐾~T

WHAT CAN WE DO RIGHT NOW?

📷 Courtesy Post these animals on our website and face book pages to help place them.
📷 Make every effort to cover the costs of emergency medical treatment, determined on a case by case basis.
📷 Attempt to provide a Foster Care Home if available
WHAT CAN YOU DO RIGHT NOW?
📷 Find room in your heart and home to become a Foster Parent. And help give us time to find a family for a homeless animal. You give us a timeline, we provide you with the supplies.
📷 Volunteer as a member of our organization. We are in need of persons to help in our fundraising efforts, emergency care drivers and simple transportation needs.
📷 Educate and become educated on the importance of spaying and neutering animals as well as the responsibilities of being a pet owner.
