Now the fun begins! It's socialization time🤗 up until this point we were just setting the ground work!
So what does that mean? It means the next 2-3 weeks have a large impact on how the puppies will interact with the world as adults!
So my job as these babes home is to give them a million controlled opportunities...controlled being the primary word here.
-I want to expose these guys to as many new sights and sounds as possible...but doing so by controlling the direct environment the babes are in so its only a positive experience.
*A big reminder is that socialization doesn't mean just throwing them into situations, it means thoughtfully planning and adapting to the needs of the puppy you're working with all the while growing confidence and skills*
- I want these littles to be handled and become as comfortable as possible with "veterinary " type handling, "grooming" handling etc.
- I want them to meet other controlled dogs, learn appropriate dog language and learn that they don't need to actually interact with those other dogs unless its specific situations.
- start to learn basic obedience and practice it in as many locations as possible so they can generalize it.
-learn calm behaviour, encouraging them to relax in a variety of environments
- if I think they might experience it, if I think I might put them into a situation I want to do my best at this point to build the skills theyll need in the future!
These babes are learning all new skills, new people, house training, being away from there siblings....but socialization during this window is so important, it lasts a lifetime!
Today was a visit to a new location, where they met new people and experienced new sights, sounds and smells!
