Vertical farming is a method of food cultivation in which crops are grown in an indoor, urban, climate-controlled facility. This approach is associated with dramatically reduced water consumption, slashed transportation costs, massive improvements in per-acre land productivity, increased plant productivity, and the freedom to cultivate crops in any location, year-round. Further information is available in Section 3 of the Hiring Package.
The past few years have been marked by the rapid proliferation of industrial vertical farms across North America, such as AeroFarms (https://aerofarms.com/), Plenty (https://www.plenty.ag/), and GoodLeaf (https://www.goodleaffarms.com/). Global market valuation is expected to grow from 1.8 billion USD (2017) to 9 billion by 2026.
QVFT's goal is to gain a foothold as an innovator in this rapidly-developing industry. We are looking for passionate, conscientious individuals who think outside the box and demonstrate a high level of commitment. Administrative roles (Finance Director, Logistics Director, and Sponsorship Director) are open to all faculties, particularly commerce and economics. For technical roles, we are especially interested in recruiting those in engineering, computer science, biology, plant science, and life science.
