There’s nothing better than popping out the door to my “kitchen garden” and gathering lettuce for a fresh salad.
.
I love that one year I decided to make a smaller garden of “easy to gather and eat” crops right outside the kitchen. It sure helps us eat it up!
.
This Fresh from the Garden Salad hits all the summer must haves

>>Time outside in the sun

Kick out the junk and make homemade, High-Protein Ice Cream that tastes great! You can choose your own adventure in boosting the protein content in this treat.
You can add Greek yogurt or canned coconut milk, or go a step further and add your favourite protein powder or collagen. I look for grass-fed whey protein powder options, and there are a lot of brands out there. For collagen, you can choose bovine or marine. Just read the ingredients and make sure you like what you pick.
🍦Serve with crushed pistachios,
🍨hemp seeds,
🍦chocolate shavings,
🍨a splash of maple syrup,
🍦other favourite toppings.
What’s your favourite protein choice?
Comment “Protein.” I’ll send you the recipe link and you can get it started

Jenna here 👋 from @thehobbsfarm with an excerpt on seeing beauty in the everyday from our insiders club.
I live on a hill in the Alberta Prairies. Our cedar farmhouse, scattered with east facing windows along the back looks out over a beautiful little lake. A frequent spot for wildlife, where we canoe in the summer months and skate in the winter ones. Along the edge of the lake are old trees that show us the beauty of each of our seasons and a field that has grazed animals, grown wheat, alfalfa and grass over the years. My favorite part is how the lace curtains on the top floor, leak the light from the sun rising straight on to my bed in the morning.
From this same spot at the back of the house, peering out of any one of the windows, I see the grey blanket of clouds when the sun doesn’t bother to shine that day. The dilapidated tree house will probably fall down before it ever gets finished. The wildlife trail of the sly fox that has taken a numerous amount of our chickens. The large diseased tree is probably going to die this year. Our septic field and how it’s raising the grass in weird ways. I wonder about that future bill.
The exact same view, depending on my day, my mood, can be very different. Some days seeing the beauty in ordinary things can come easy - goodness I love those ones! Other days we won’t see beauty if it smacked us in the face with a brick. However, most of our days, we need to look for it. Work to find it. We can practice this work and get better at it and like anything, it can start to feel easier. Does seeing the beauty come easy to you? Do you have to work to find it some days? Most days?
Perfect to help out your gut or boost immunity, Fermented Garlic is delicious and extends shelf life 🙌
This is my favourite way to use up garlic near the end of its shelf life. What’s your go-to?
It’s easy here are the basic steps:
Step 1: Peel your garlic. This may take a while so be patient or get help, listen to an audiobook to pass the time enjoyably.
Step 2: Mix up a brine separately until dissolved well, then top off the jar.
Step 3: Add herbs, put on a lid, and shake to distribute. Then remove the lid and add a weight of some sort to keep things inside the liquid.
Step 4: Cover with a towel and let ferment for at least 1 month, if not 2.
Comment “Garlic” and I will send you the DIY instructions.

Its quite simple- how often does your family actually eat what you’re canning? How often do you want to be eating it?
.
Theres a few weeks a year where you will be eating it fresh, otherwise…if you want to eat canned peaches once a week- can 50 jars that are the right size for your family
.
Canned salmon 2 times a month? Well, 1 doz months in a year, so 2 doz jars
.
There is some nuance- maybe you would eat more if you had more. Maybe youre an every other year canner (yep! Canning is good more than a year…) so you can double of something this year cause it was plentiful and dont next year
.
And maybe you canned 50 pints of jam but come spring you realize you only ate 30…can less next season or figure out how to use more
(@foodinjars has a book all about using your canned goods in unusual ways!)
.
You can apply this to freezing your harvest (we eat frozen veg 6-8m a year, so i figure out how much broccoli we will realistically eat in that) buying dried foods (50lb bag of rice is 50 meals for us, so at once a week we will eat in a year) and all your preservation!
