This was a big moment for us 🥲Bella and her family came to me with issues around human reactivity. It took a lot of work to get here and has been an emotional process with many ups and downs. This week Bella allowed me to interact with her and take the leash.
Bella's gaurdians were told by another trainer that overcoming her reactivity would be impossible without the use of aversive tools (shock and prong collars) before coming to me.
I'm so impressed by Bella's gaurdians for their willingness to try new things, their desire to learn, their compassion and patience, and their positivity.
Humane training wins again!

Happy Halloween! Get your white noise on and enrichment toys out ;)
Food for my soul! You can see the lightbulb go off in Milo's head as he remembers that he doesn't need to react to the other dog to feel safe, as that his mom is ready to give him chicken and praise for his good behavior. Thanks for sharing Milo family! I'm so proud of you all ❤️☺️
When I was a kid I used to wish I could talk to animals like Dr. Doolittle. As a trainer I now know that we all have the ability to communicate with our animals, if we want to 😊

Reactivity training with Fiona😍🥰😘💝😍
Fiona is here for board and train this week, and we are focussing on getting her lots of practice learning to calmly observe and then look away from her triggers. We have been going to the park and practicing this skill twice a day every day!
In day to day life it can be quite difficult to get this kind of mileage practicing these skills, and my board and train programs serve to help with that! We always work at a distance that feels safe for Fiona and end the sessions with zoomies, treat jackpots, and bum scratches.

Enrichment is EVERYTHING.
REMY VS ROVER pt 2.
We made it into the same fenced area as Rover, and managed to relax and do some scent work despite Rover's suspicious presence lurking in the corner. For REMY, scent work is a very useful emotional anchor that allows him to stay calm around his triggers. For other dogs this may be a favorite toy, a click and treat, or offering a favorite trick to their handler. You are an inspiration to us all, Remy!

I've been trying to teach Ducky to roll over for six years with no luck, but today after watching Snickers do it a couple of times Ducky decided to give the full roll over a try!
Social learning, aka observational learning, aka modeling, aka "monkey see monkey do" is a well- established phenomena across a variety of different species including us humans.
I doubt that it is a coincidence that after years.of trying with no luck along, Ducky was able to roll over today after watching Snickers do it. I think that seeing Snickers roll over and expose her tummy without any issues gave her the courage she needed to go for it!
I have been trying to teach Ducky to roll over for 6 years without any luck, but once she watched Snickers do it a couple times she felt brave enough to give the full roll a try!

I doubt that it was a coincidence that after years of us trying alone, Ducky was able to roll over today after watching Snickers do it a couple of times. I suspect that Snickers demonstrated to her that rolling over is nothing to be afraid of and results in treats ;)
NAILED IT. Let's hear it for Remy who, out of his own free will, decides to disengage with a flock of noisy ducks and chickens!!!!!Feel free to put your compliments/praise in the comments and I will read them to him for you.

Here is Snickers, happily playing with her ball in front of a with a tennis court filled with shrill and irregularly moving human children. When I first met Snickers she would have been way too stressed to play around such a scene!
It might look like much, but this is what ethical evidence-based training looks like: creating positive experiences for the dog around their triggers *at their pace*.
