We all need to take care of each other.

In times of stress and frustration, please remember to be kind💛

I don’t usually make posts like this but the grooming community could use a little love.

There is a large groomer shortage in PEI currently and possibly for the years to come. At the same time we are facing inflation as well as a surge of new dogs.
Most groomers I know and love are at capacity with very long wait lists of upwards of 50-100 dogs that may be on those lists for years.

We understand it is so frustrating not having a groomer, long wait times, high grooming rates etc but just know we feel it too.

We groom dogs because we deeply love your dogs, we care for them as they were our own. We think about them and worry about them on our days off. We are empaths.

But it’s come to my attention in my experience and the experience of other groomers on the island that I love that we have been facing a lot of unkindness and cruelty over our rates, our wait time, our policies and our methods.

Our policies protect our time, if you don’t show up or cancel late, we need to charge a fee or else we simply don’t get paid. Our only way of earning a living is when you come to your appointment as scheduled.

Our rates are getting much higher because our job is very very hard. We love it so much but it’s hard. Our equipment and upkeep is very expensive and believe us when I say we aren’t taking home the full amount you pay.
We are finally getting the courage to charge a rate that makes a very hard and rewarding job worth it long term. We aren’t just in it for the money or we would be doing something else.

These are very frustrating times we understand. But please be kind to your groomer. We do what we do because we love it with our whole hearts, and unkind comments are causing groomers around the island and the world to lose their passion for the industry and it breaks my heart 😔

We’re here because we care so much, and we deserve the same in return.

On behalf of my PEI grooming community we thank you to those that are always kind and show your appreciation, no matter how little. You keep us going, you make the hard days brighter and we love you so much ❤️

🦴We all love spoiling our furry friends, especially around the holidays, but please be cautious about the treats we are indulging them with and double-check items for dangers or recalls!🦴

"Costco said anyone who purchased the Irish Rover 2021 Advent Calendar for Dogs (item 2462182) at a Costco warehouse or on Costco.ca between Oct. 1 and Dec. 8 should stop feeding their pets the treats immediately “out of an abundance of caution.”"

Great job everyone for giving loving, fur-ever homes to so many lovely little animals.

Many thanks to the PEI Humane Society for doing the incredible job of caring for all of these creatures, and for doing the hard work necessary to place them all into the purr-fect home for each one.

🙌THANK YOU, PEI!!🙌

Please read the whole post.

Islanders really stepped it up in November for our little shelter. 122 animals were adopted from our shelter last month and it's all thanks to you!😻

You all heard that we were FULL and you helped us out by adopting our animals faster than we ever imagined!

This means that many of the animals waiting to come into the shelter are being processed now and getting ready to be made available to be adopted into Island homes.

This also means that we need to ask you to be patient with us in December as we prepare for another slew of animals to become available.

Some things to keep in mind about this:

- We do not control what kind of animals come into the shelter, therefore requests for specific animals (breeds, ages, etc) cannot be honored.

- We cannot process animals faster just because we have so many of them. We still need to provide the high quality of care we always have and we continue read each adoption application thoroughly to ensure each animal is placed in the best possible home.

- We do not tolerate verbal abuse for any of our staff. Rude language and demands for exceptions cannot and will not be tolerated. We are a small operation and we provide a high level of service for the animals in our care. We do not compromise that even when we are busy and our staff do not deserve to be harassed for it.

- Our website is the best place to find out which animals are available and we update it daily. Applications for adoptions are processed on the site as well and approved applicants will be called a few days after applying. We cannot call all applicants as we do not have the man-power to do so.

Thank you again PEI, for always being so good to us!
Our animals thank you - TWO PAWS UP!🙌

⏰Daylight Saving got you all mixed up? This is your permission to take it easy, allow yourself, and your pets, some time to slowly adjust over the next week or two.

~Did you know that the sudden change that comes with daylight saving time can be confusing to your furry friends? They are creatures of habit that feel most comfortable with a predictable routine. Be patient with them and with yourself.~

"If you're taking an unvaccinated dog into those areas, when there is a confirmed positive case of parvo in the area, it can be very dangerous for your dog's health … We highly recommend that if you don't have your dog vaccinated that you do so ASAP."

The P.E.I. Humane Society is warning dog owners about a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus discovered recently in a dog in Charlottetown.

Warning: Beware of HOT PAWS!

Paws can suffer burns on days most people wouldn’t consider to be exceptionally hot!

If the temperature is 25C (77F), asphalt can reach 52C (125F). This can rise to 62C (143F) when the outside temperature hits 31C (87F).

This is why it's important to watch out for hot concrete on days like today. Remember the following tips!

1) Follow the 7-second rule! Put your hand on the ground surface you’ll be walking on. If you can comfortably hold it there for 7 seconds, you’re in the clear.

2)Watch where you’re walking. Keep to natural grasses. Soil doesn’t hold heat like concrete and gravel do. Keeping your pet on the grass is much safer.

3)What time is it? Walking early in the morning or late into the evening will give concrete time to cool down. This way it’s more comfortable for you AND your pet!
