I had the pleasure of meeting this guy last week 😍 he's a real sweetheart!!
Milo began training today!! Welcome buddy!
🥳Miss Echo finished up her training program and got her certificate! 🥳
Something as simple as this can be mentally enriching for your dog! Sure, they need to walk, run, and physically exercise, but they also need mental exercise and enrichment.
All I did was toss their food onto these pallets and let them go at it. The act of sniffing and finding their food is a great and simple exercise!
What sort of things do you do to mentally enrich your dog's life?
We had a great turn out for Group walk this morning! If you've done training with me, I'd love to have you join us!
Penny, Bolt, Dozer and Axel joined me for a puppy class with fosters for New Chapter Animal Rescue League this past week!
I held a few classes to teach the fosters and the pups some basic obedience and socialization skills.
You can find more details on these pups and many more on their page and website!! 😍

I went out to New Chapter Animal Rescue League last night to do a puppy class with some of the fosters who have puppies and need some help on how to give these pups a solid start to life! While I forgot to get pictures of the seven, 3-4 month old puppies that did the class with their temporary humans, I did manage to get a few pictures of these older pups after the class was over!
This is Fox and Bond, they are around 5 months old and available for adoption! They seem to be mastiff/hound/shepherd crosses and as with many rescue/reserve pups, probably have a mixture of many different breeds in them. They are smart and eager to please, but don't seem to have a clue just how big they are 😅 They will not be adopted out to the same home, but would love to become part of your family!
If you're interested in adoption, you can fill out their application on their website!

Happy Friday!!
Ecollars are one of my favorite training tools because they allow me to have freedom like this with my dog who has a high desire to chase wildlife. Now, instead of chasing when he sees a deer or rabbit, he looks to me and then follows my direction 😍
Show me what your weekend looks like!!
What a beautiful thursday!! We had a great walk with friends and went past a bunch of Kids who said hi, but none of us cared! We all looked at the kids, but when the human kept walking, we did too! 👍🏻
Neutrality is always the goal!!
This is Clover and she started her puppy training this week!!
Welcome sweet girl! 💕
Miss Echo started her training over the weekend 😍
Welcome pretty girl!!
✨Socialization✨
What is it and how do I do it??
Everyone talks so much about socializing your puppy but nobody tells you how! I'm here to help clear up the confusion.
Most people's goals with their puppy/dog, is that they can walk past dogs and people when needed without much of a reaction, but also to interact, say hi, or even play with them when allowed. But how do we achieve this neutral approach to seeing people or dogs?
The concept is simple, but not always easy, especially if your dog has already started building bad habits and reactions to seeing things they like(or are nervous about).
1. Take your dog to a public space(park, parking lot, etc ..) , sit on a bench and let them observe. Reward them for looking back to you! If they are reacting and pulling towards or away from the things you're watching, move a bit further away so you're not over their threshold.
2. Don't allow any dog or person to touch your dog. The most important step is building neutrality. Whether you have a nervous dog or a very friendly dog, being neutral around distractions will ALWAYS be more valuable than having an over socialized dog who has no impulse control!
This is a concept I work into every program I do, whether it's a puppy, adult, or senior dog, I will help you work through the reactions and teach some impulse control no matter what their feelings are about the thing they are reacting to!

Sometimes a longer leash and giving your dog a little extra space on walks, helps them to make the choice to stay close to you. You are the thing that will reliably reward them in this world, don't waste your value, use it to build trust and good habits.
Icy walks with 4 pups today! A dog pulling at the end of the leash can be very dangerous for them and for us when there's ice on the ground! It's never too late to teach your dog to stop pulling on leash and pay more attention to whoever is holding the leash. Consistency and a confident leader with the right knowledge can make all the difference! #recalltraining #traindaily #walknice #welltraineddogs #buildyourrelationship #connectwithyourdog #placeface #centralalbertadogtrainer #trainingpeopletotraindogs #dogtrainer #leashmanners #dogtraining #ecollartraining #confidencebuilding
6 month old Kali, ROCKING her loose leash walk! #recalltraining #traindaily #walknice #welltraineddogs #buildyourrelationship #connectwithyourdog #placeface #centralalbertadogtrainer #trainingpeopletotraindogs #dogtrainer #leashmanners #dogtraining
Working on recall and impulse control in a field out of the city today. Around the 5 second mark (of course when we were out of frame🙄) Wilson saw a rabbit and took off after it, but the leash helped him remember that chasing rabbits isn't appropriate. He hit the end of it, then came back to me with a little more coaxing. Each time your dog is able to chase something with no penalty, is going to reinforce that chasing things is fun and acceptable. If your dog doesn't have perfect recall on a long line, DONT let them off leash. You're setting them up to fail, so if they do fail, it's on you. Let's set our dogs up to succeed!! 👍🏻 #buildingrelationships #confidencebuilding #connectwithyourdog #placeface #trainingpeopletotraindogs #leashmanners #welltraineddogs #boardandtrainprogram #centralalbertadogtrainer #dogtrainer #ecollartraining #creatingfreedom
Sometimes our dogs aren't in the mood to work. Maybe they're tired, or hot, or sore they're just not feeling it today. George was feeling a type of way when he came for training this week. Instead of pushing him to do what I planned for this week's session, I adjusted and we worked on other skills while doing something he already knows and loves - playing tug! We played with him, working on a reliable "release" command as well as some impulse control! When the world gives us bad moods, we adjust and work with it! With ourselves and our dogs 😍 #recalltraining #traindaily #walknice #welltraineddogs #buildyourrelationship #connectwithyourdog #placeface #centralalbertadogtrainer #trainingpeopletotraindogs #dogtrainer #leashmanners #dogtraining #dobermanpinscher
Simple session tonight working on some impulse control as well as really trying to pull out her food drive. I've found a freeze dried food which she LOVES so we will continue using it to work with her as well as to try put some meat on her bones 🥳 (I got her over the 2lbs mark!!) The main goal for Tilly is to have her come when called, as well as to know a place command so she can stay safe around the 2, 100lbs dogs at home as well as the horse! Without those basic commands being understood, she won't be able to have much freedom in life. I'm so excited to have found something she's eager to work for and even gets a bit pushy for, and she's already had some big breakthroughs! #recalltraining #traindaily #walknice #welltraineddogs #buildyourrelationship #connectwithyourdog #placeface #centralalbertadogtrainer #trainingpeopletotraindogs #dogtrainer #leashmanners #dogtraining #boardandtrainprogram #placeface #besafe #creatingfreedom
Tilly got a bath in the sink this morning. We took a bunch of breaks for her to settle down and stop fighting me. Overall she did really well! It took 10 minutes and now she's nice and clean. She's been rejected by multiple groomers for being so anxious and for fighting the entire time. But I think with some practice and conditioning, she'll be able to tolerate the process. I may not be able to make her love or like it, but she doesn't need to fight it as much 👍🏻 #connectwithyourdog #placeface #trainingpeopletotraindogs #leashmanners #welltraineddogs #boardandtrainprogram #centralalbertadogtrainer #dogtrainer
Would you believe that this dog almost broke her mom's finger 6 weeks before this? Constantly pulling on the leash and not paying any attention to her when out and about. After 2 weeks of staying with me and learning some important foundations, she's got a great focus and knows what leash pressure means. If you've been curious about my board and train program, this is your sign, and now is the time to sign up for it! #connectwithyourdog #placeface #trainingpeopletotraindogs #leashmanners #welltraineddogs #boardandtrainprogram #centralalbertadogtrainer #dogtrainer
How fast does your dog recall? If you want a response this fast and energetic, I can help you get it! Treats, patience, consistency and a long line or 2(this one is 50ft long) is all you need to get these results! And if your dog doesn't come back EVERY SINGLE time you call them when they're on a long line, they should NOT be off leash anywhere (yes, even dog parks, or out in the middle of nowhere). Every single time includes : when they see another animal or person, smell a good smell, when you just threw a ball and called them when they were halfway to going to get it. It doesn't matter how friendly your dog is, you can create big problems if your dog is off leash and doesn't come back. #connectwithyourdog #placeface #trainingpeopletotraindogs #leashmanners #welltraineddogs #boardandtrainprogram #centralalbertadogtrainer #dogtrainer #creatingfreedom #recalltraining
With that gross, smokey air that rolled into Red Deer overnight, outside walks aren't a good idea for the sake of our (and our dog's) lungs. So I took Abby out on a field trip to Lowe's to work on her social skills, leash skills, and focus around new people and distractions. She absolutely ROCKED it and I am SO proud of the progress this girl has made in the 8 days she's been with me 🤩🤩 #connectwithyourdog #placeface #trainingpeopletotraindogs #leashmanners #welltraineddogs #boardandtrainprogram #centralalbertadogtrainer #dogtrainer
I'm trying to do better with making videos! It's helpful for me to look back on my session, and can be helpful for the owners for after they get back home with their dog. 👌🏻 #connectwithyourdog #placeface #trainingpeopletotraindogs #leashmanners #welltraineddogs #boardandtrainprogram #centralalbertadogtrainer #dogtrainer
After taking the weekend off to go to an INCREDIBLE seminar with Duke Ferguson, I came home with so many new things I wanted to do and teach! So much information has entered my brain in the past few days and I wanted to put it to use immediately. So I brought home a new foster! We've got a long way to go to help him learn basic manners, crate training and social skills, but he's still a puppy and has great potential! I'm so excited to work with this guy and give him the training foundation he deserves 😍😍 Welcome to the house of Well Trained Dogs Kingsley! I'm sure you'll be learning lots while you're with us 🤩 #connectwithyourdog #placeface #trainingpeopletotraindogs #leashmanners #welltraineddogs #boardandtrainprogram #centralalbertadogtrainer #dogtrainer #pawsandclawsanimalrescuefoundation #rescuedog #adoptadog #fosterdog
Quick training session with Maui my new foster friend from Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation . This big boy is a true sweetheart, great in the house, good in the crate, good with dogs as long as there's a proper introduction, and hasn't had any issues around my 18 month old son! I reintroduced his to a few kitties today and although curious, he didn't raise any red flags in that department. I believe he'll need a little redirection with cats at least in the beginning, but he is very easily redirected. He seems a little nervous around loud noises and sometimes around cars, but I plan to do some confidence building and desensitization around city sounds. This guy would love to be a mostly outside dog if possible, and he's got a good thick coat that would be able to handle it quite well! #pawsandclawsanimalrescuefoundation #confidencebuilding #welltraineddogs #cratetraining #dogsocialization #rescuedog #adoptadog #fosterdog #centralalbertadogtrainer #traindaily #learningstuff #dogtrainer #leashmanners #walknice #connectwithyourdog #dogtraining If you're interested in adopting him, check out his info and fill out an adoption application on the Paws and Claws page and website!
When your tired but still need to work your foster dog's body and brain, you play "chase the food till you drop". He loves this and so do I! I lay on the couch and throw dog food, he runs around like crazy trying to catch each one! If I could aim better, they'd go down the stairs a bit more and that's fun too! Spot It (Sport) is a foster through Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation and is available for adoption! He is looking for an active home that will be able to continue with his training and give him a job of some sort. He loves tug and fetch, and thrives when he's got a job to do.
Sport is learning what the leash means and how to pay more attention to the human at the end of it while out on a walk 😊 This guy is around 4-5 months old and looking for his forever home! If you're interested in adopting him, reach out to Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation and fill out the puppy adoption application on their website. I believe he would do well with an active home who would be able to give him a job. Dog sports or hunting may be activities he would enjoy and thrive at! #pawsandclawsanimalrescuefoundation #welltraineddogs #rescuedog #adoptadog #workhardplayhard #dogtraining
