A Caturday message from Samantha …

Join our foster team! We’ve struggled to intake any cats since the fall due to a lack of foster availability, and there are so many deserving souls waiting for a second chance.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is “can I foster with other animals in the house?” and the answer is absolutely! If your existing pets are friendly, sterilized, and up to date on their vaccines, we’d be happy to have them as foster siblings to our adoptables!

Thanks to Samantha’s foster brother Spock, she has settled wonderfully into foster care. She lives peacefully with cats, dogs, loves people, and though she hasn’t been exposed to kids - we think she would do well with them.

Urgent Foster Homes Needed

We are in urgent need of foster homes! A mother dog and her 3-week-old puppies need placement as soon as tomorrow, along with several adult dogs and many other puppies.

If you’re interested in fostering, please apply! We carefully match dogs based on your abilities and home environment—not just appearance.

Your help can make all the difference!

Unfortunately, the finer details are not yet known and will be determined by our foster homes. Slow introductions and separate spaces for the initial meeting with pets and children are necessary.

Gilly is back in foster care and resting after a scary couple days. A huge thank you to everyone that donated towards Gilly’s care! Thanks to your donations ($935!), Gilly was able to stay the night with our friends at Eagleson and get the treatment he needed.

We have $1,129.74 remaining on Gilly’s bill, and would appreciate any donations towards his care. Whether it’s a toonie you found in the couch cushions or a $5 bill you found in an old pair of jeans, every dollar makes a HUGE impact. Donations can be sent by EMT to [email protected].

Thank you all for your support and love of our animals 💙🐾

This is a special needs adoption. While Fleet Foot is available, only applicants who meet his specific needs will be considered and contacted.

Name: Fleet Foot (Fleety)

Age: 18 months

Weight: 55lbs

Breed: Poodle/Bernese Mountain Dog/Old English Sheepdog

Sterilized: He will be soon.

Vaccinated: Yes (two Dappvl2 and rabies)

Good with other dogs: Yes, he needs other dog/s in the home. He loves his pack the most in the world.

Good with cats: Yes, he loves to play with cats but is very scared of grumpy ones.

Good with kids: 10+ with boundaries and respect for his space.

Current size: Large. Hes still skinny from his emaciation but he's gaining well.

House trained: Yes, but he may have accidents if not let out in time.

Crate trained: Yes

Special needs or medical conditions: Fleet Foot isn’t a typical dog. He was abandoned in the Eganville area and survived as a stray for many weeks before being rescued. He has many fears—virtually everything—so please read his full bio before applying.

Aggression (toys, food, people, leash reactivity): He is incredibly sweet. we say he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. However, if he feels threatened and pushed too far, he has bitten out of fear rather than aggression.

Playfulness: Very playful

Energy level: High

Snuggles: He is starting to love his people. He will now hop into bed for scratches and affection.

Basic commands: None

Special tricks: None

Training level: Semi-feral rehabilitation

Walks: Not yet. He is petrified of the leash and will panic, losing control and elimination his bladder and bowel. We do slow sessions.

Fears: Everything. He would benefit from a quiet, rural home.

Unique traits: Fleety has big, goofy ears and loves using his paws when playing. He is a silly boy who enjoys running laps in the yard or playing with toys.

Three words to describe him: Cautious, goofy, baby deer.

Description and ideal home:
Fleety is truly one of a kind. He improves every day and has a bright future ahead, but he still has a long journey. His home must have a 100% secure fence to keep him safe. Apartments or homes with shared entrances will not be considered. Any dogs in the home must be well-mannered, as he would hide from a dominant or untrained/boisterous dog.
His leash skills are a work in progress, and he remains absolutely terrified of people and new experiences. However, he loves playing with the dogs and cats in his foster home. Welcoming Fleet Foot into your home will be a challenge, but a deeply rewarding one. Since coming into rescue in October, he has made tremendous progress.
If you believe you are a good fit for Fleet Foot, please apply below. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization and will only contact those being considered for adoption. There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, and we do not guarantee any dog to fit under that category.

Our sweet boy Gilly has been taken to the emergency vet after showing signs of lethargy and bloating. We’ve just learned that he has hyperkalemia and needs dextrose, insulin, and his kidneys flushed.

With the help of his veterinary team, we will do everything we can for Gilly, but this will be a costly treatment and recovery. If you’re able, we would gratefully accept donations by EMT to [email protected] to support his care.

Vesper is available for adoption!
ID # 25-020

Age: 10-12 weeks

Weight: 16lbs but growing fast

Breed: mixed breed

Is your foster dog sterilized: Not yet

Is your foster dog vaccinated: 1st DHPP, will receive rabies vaccine during spay

Is your dog good with other dogs: Yes, loves other dogs and reads their cues well

Is your dog good with cats: Yes, she is uninterested in the cat in her foster home

Foster Location: Petawawa

Is your dog good with kids: Yes, great with kids, very patient and gentle

Current size: Puppy

Estimated adult size: Medium - Large

Is your dog house trained: In progress but going well so far

Is your dog crate trained: Yes, when left alone she will cry in the crate at first then settle herself. When her humans are home she will go in and out of her crate on her own to sleep or take a break

Does your dog have any special needs or medical conditions? None

Does your dog have any or display any aggression (toys, food, people, leash reactivity): None

Is your dog playful: Yes, as Vesper becomes more comfortable and confident in her foster home she has begun to play more with her toys and her humans

Describe the dogs energy level: Normal puppy energy, bouts of play and rest, but overall Vessie is a very docile puppy

Does your dog like to snuggle: Yes, loves to snuggle with her humans

Does your dog know basic commands: In progress

Does your dog know any special tricks: None yet

Describe the dogs level of training: Very basic as she is still a young puppy

Does your dog like to go on walks: It has been too cold to introduce Vessie to walks yet, she does not enjoy the cold as she's still so little

Does your dog have any fears: None, overall timid at first with new people and new environments but warms up quickly

Does your dog have any unique traits you have noticed whether in personality or physically: Vessie is all black with a white patch on her chin and white toes, the softest little floppy ears, and she has the warmest most loving dark brown eyes that look right in to your heart

What are the 3 first words that come to mind when you think of your dog: Sweet, Snuggly, Docile

Provide a description of your foster dog and the ideal home for them: Vessie is the sweetest most lovable little girl. Her warm and loving dark brown eyes will look right through you and warm your heart. She's very docile for a puppy and loves to snuggle up with her humans at any given time of day, or follow them around the house wherever they go. As she becomes more comfortable in her foster home she has been coming out of her shell and has these silly playful moments running around and playing with her toys. We think she would love to have another dog to play with, but is also learning how to play with her humans. She's a clever little girl and is picky about her treats so she responds well to big praise in her training. If she's doing something and is told a firm "No" from her humans she stops right away and sits down and looks at them, waiting for further direction. Vessie hasn't been exposed to going out for walks yet as she doesn't enjoy the cold because she's still little, but although she can be timid in new environments she is curious so we think she'll love her walks when the outside temperature is more comfortable for her. As she continues to gain confidence in new environments Vessie's favourite place to be is at home with her family. If you're looking for a snuggly and loyal best friend Vessie is your girl!

Eirwen (Ernie) is available for adoption!
ID # 25-021

Age: 10-12 weeks

Weight: 10-15 lbs

Breed: mixed breed

Is your foster dog sterilized: Not yet

Is your foster dog vaccinated: DHPP, will receive rabies vaccine during neuter

Is your dog good with other dogs: Yes

Is your dog good with cats: Unknown

Foster Location: Barrhaven

Is your dog good with kids: Yes, but best suited for kids that understand boundaries. Supervision is important as he is teething and occasionally nips.

Current size: Small

Estimated adult size: Medium

Is your dog house trained: A work in progress as he is very good at going potty when put outside but needs further training to learn to ask to go out.

Is your dog crate trained: Yes, but he can be vocal if not given a routine and time to settle in. Treats, toys, a p*e pad, a blanket over the crate, and soft background noise (like a movie or music) help him settle.

Does your dog have any special needs or medical conditions? No

Does your dog display any aggression (toys, food, people, leash reactivity): No

Is your dog playful: Extremely! He loves a wide variety of toys, with ropes, Nylabones, and his Kong being his favorites.

Describe the dogs energy level: Like all puppies, he has bursts of energy followed by rest. He loves high-energy play and then curling up in your arms for a quiet nap.

Does your dog like to snuggle: He LOVES to snuggle, especially if you rub his back or belly.

Does your dog know basic commands: Ernie knows his name and the commands: Come, Sit, On Your Bed, Go P*e, and Quiet. He is working on Stay, Lie Down, and Paw.

Does your dog know any special tricks: No

Describe the dogs level of training: Beginner, but incredibly intelligent and quick to learn.

Does your dog like to go on walks: He’s still figuring out walks but enjoys spending time outside.

Does your dog have any fears: No, he’s very brave!

Does your dog have any unique traits you have noticed whether in personality or physically: He has the cutest little brown spots on his ears, nose, and tail. He is intelligent, sweet, bouncy and always the center of attention!

What are the 3 first words that come to mind when you think of your dog: Sweet, curious, intelligent

Provide a description of your foster dog and the ideal home for them: Ernie is looking for a home that can match his playful energy, intelligence, and affectionate nature. He would thrive with a single person, couple, or family with children 6+, as he is still learning how to interact gently and can be mouthy like most puppies. He is a social, bouncy pup who loves to be the center of attention and enjoys engaging with his people, whether through play, training, or snuggles.

As a young puppy, Ernie will need continued training, patience, and structure to help him grow into a well-mannered adult dog. He is already showing great intelligence and eagerness to learn, so his ideal adopter should be committed to reinforcing good habits, setting boundaries, and providing consistent positive reinforcement. A home that enjoys interactive play and mental stimulation will be best for him, as he loves learning and working on new commands.

Ernie would do well in a home with a secure yard for playtime or with an adopter who is committed to giving him plenty of outdoor time and exercise. While he’s still figuring out walks, he enjoys being outside and will likely become a great walking or hiking companion as he grows.

While Ernie is crate-trained, he thrives on routine and benefits from a calm environment when settling in. His adopter should be prepared to continue helping him feel comfortable and secure in his crate and reinforce his house-training progress.

Overall, Ernie is an affectionate, curious, and highly trainable pup who will make a wonderful addition to a loving home.

The weather may be fluctuating here in Ontario, but our friends in the North are still facing incredibly cold temperatures day after day. Stray puppies & dogs just like these ones are dying due to these conditions, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

With the help of our various partners & front line rescuers, we can pull these animals and bring them inside. They can experience the warmth of a home and find forever families - but they need a foster home first.

We’re looking for fosters:
-with/without other dogs
-with/without cats
-with/without children
-living in homes, apartments, etc.
-willing to take adult dogs
-willing to take behavioural dogs

Background information on strays can be limited, but we’ve seen time and time again how well they adjust when they’re just given a chance.

Apply to foster today ⬇️
