12/03/2024

Dear Valued Clients,
From March 17th to 23rd, the veterinary community is observing Poison Awareness Week to educate pet owners about common household hazards and potential toxins that can pose a threat to our furry friends. We believe that knowledge is key to keeping your pets safe, happy, and healthy, which is why we're committed to sharing essential information with you.
With Easter coming up, there is a lot more chocolate around! Unfortunately, chocolate is the most common toxin ingested by dogs (it tastes great and they don’t know it's poisonous!). During this week, we encourage you to take a moment to review your home environment and identify any potential hazards that could endanger your pets.

Here we have Phoenix and Willow, from our summer photo contest. Phoenix loves to enjoy life and thinks it’s delicious, but we have to be careful because not everything that is delicious is safe! Willow is also quite the curious little one, and needs to know the dangers when she goes out in her backyard. Not all the pretty flowers are safe to sniff!

Common Signs of Toxin Ingestion:
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Excessive Drooling
Lack of coordination
Weakness/lethargy
Collapse
Excessive thirst/urination
Unusual behavior

Here are a few tips to help you protect your pets:
Know the Danger: Familiarize yourself with common household toxins that can harm pets and safely store them out of reach.

Pet-Proof Your Home: Remove or secure any potentially harmful substances, including plants that are toxic to pets. Consider using pet-proof lids on trash cans to prevent curious pets from accessing harmful items.

Be Prepared: Mountain Animal Hospital and Mobile Veterinary Care are the only 24/7 after hours veterinarians in the Bow Valley, if you think your pet has ingested a toxin call us at 403 679 2555. Also, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 855 764 7661 is available 24/7 in case of emergencies. Quick action can make all the difference in saving your pet's life.

Educate Others: Share information about Poison Awareness Week with other pet owners in your community. Together, we can raise awareness and prevent accidental poisonings.
Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your furry family members. Together, we can ensure a safer environment for all pets.

This Remembrance Day we are thankful for all who have sacrificed towards making the world a more peaceful place. Enzo is a hero!! He is a retired police service dog who has saved many lives but now struggles with severe arthritis from a lifetime of hard work and was incapacitated with a severe fever. Thanks to a dedicated team working with him at Mountain Animal Hospital over the last week, he is finally feeling much better! We are here for him and any other pets that may suffer with any emergencies this Remembrance Day Weekend.

HAPPY PAWTHER'S DAY!! 🐾🐕

Wishing all the Father's out there a wonderful Father's day! Thank you for all you do, the world is a better place with you in it. We know being a dad isn't always easy, so give yourself a pat on the back.

From all the dogs out there "You bag my poo and give me food. You scratch my ears when I am good, you take care of me when I'm not well. Dad's like you are hard to beat".

This adorable fluffy guy is Mato!! He walks just like a care bear and looks like one too!! He recently came in for a little mass that had raptured. We removed it while he was under sedation, and he was sent home nice and quickly.
Even though this guy had a quick surgery it wasn’t going to get his spirits down, just look at this big happy and very good boy!!

Can you believe she is 8 years old....?.... not with her well groomed hair and cute little face that's for sure.
Molly came to us in September of last year 2022. Her little bag makes it so perfect for traveling to and from her home and clinic for her vet visits.

February is National Pet Dental Health Month!! 😁🦷✨

Dogs and cats may not look like their owners but they require the same dental care as humans. This includes regular brushing and full dental cleaning. Dental disease is more than just bad breath, loose or broken teeth, yellow/brown teeth, red/inflamed or bleeding gums, or excessive drooling and can affect the overall health and well being of your pet.

We offer may options for at home oral care including but not limited to dental diets (for cat's and dog's), dental treats/chews, dental rinses, water additive (promotes good dental and oral hygiene), plaque off food additive (helps keep teeth clean and freshens breath).

We are proud that we have the most up-to-date equipment to treat dental disease, including digital dental x-rays. This allows us to detect if there is any disease beneath the gum line we may not otherwise see. Most importantly we are skilled in diagnosing and treating conditions.

Call (403)-679-2555 or Email us ([email protected]) today to book a dental checkup and see how we can help you and your pet maintain or achieve a healthy mouth.

Billy despite his blindness is one awesome little dude. He stayed in hospital for the day as his blood sugar levels were assessed for his diabetic management. However this little bro wasn't gonna waste his time and spent most of the day charming the ladies, helping out with reception, giving pep talks in the break room, and nap time when all the responsibilities got a bit much.

⚠️WARNING CUTE ALERT! 🐾
We had the pleasure of meeting miss Luna at our clinic. Poor little peanut had a fish hook stuck in her lip/nose. But with a little help from us with mild sedation and local freezing we were able to remove it. You wouldn't even know anything happened.

All of our staff here at Mountain Animal Hospital and Mobile Veterinary Care enjoyed snuggling, holding and loving little Luna.

Luna joined us during a training session for a new piece of equipment we recently received, as you can tell she was so tired from all the information that she fell fast asleep in our employees arms. 🤣🐕

Happy New Year everyone!! Happy 2023! 🎆🎉

To kick the New Year off right, we saw 5 month old kitten Jayjay at our clinic location for vaccines. Isn't he just the most handsome kitten you've ever seen, he even brought his emotional support brother with him for the veterinary appointment! 🐾😻

We wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our families/pets to yours! 🎄🐾🎅🐕

Here are some pictures of our employee's pets, Honeycomb the cat on the left is celebrating her first Christmas and did really well with having a fake Christmas tree up and decorated. The pup on the right (Bogan) likes to dress up in Christmas attire during the holiday season, he also has a hat and coat for those freezing winter days. Cinnamon is the pup with Santa hat, he is such a handsome fella with tons of energy and the biggest smile. We would love to see some holiday photos of your pet(s).

We will be in our clinic again Monday December 26th, 2022

Stay safe and stay warm!

Happy Paw-lidays everyone! 🐾🐈🐕🎄

Just a friendly reminder as the holiday's approach us:

Chocolate is toxic to dogs even in small amounts, please make sure to keep your chocolate away to avoid your dog from becoming ill. (The darker and more bitter the chocolate is the more dangerous it is) Unfortunately we have to induced vomiting for most patients we see that have eaten chocolate (see photo number 2). If your dog has consumed chocolate its best to have them seen with your Veterinarian right away!

Around this time of the year many people love to decorate their tree's and house's with garland, tinsel, ribbon, ornaments, etc. while these decorations look beautiful they can be quite harmful to cat and dogs. Stringy objects when ingested can become lodged in the intestinal tract, which raises concern for your pets health and safety. If your pet ingests any stringy or sharp objects its best to call the vet right away.

Did you know some plants during the holidays are toxic to pets? To name a few; some mistletoe species, peace lilies, Christmas lilies (flowers in the lily family, highly toxic to cats), daffodils, narcissi, spring bulbs, etc.
While Poinsettia's are not specifically toxic they can still cause intestinal upset and irritation to the mouth and stomach in cats. Just like holly when ingested can cause gastrointestinal upset. It's best to keep these plants high up where your cat won't go.

We can be reached at 403-679-2555 ☎️ for all medical needs for your furry family members. 🐾
