We had an amazing time hosting our special training event for reactive dogs and their dedicated owners. Over 20 dogs and more than 30 owners joined us to learn, grow, and transform their pups into calmer companions. It was a day filled with learning, support, and community building.

Take a look at Vinny. He's at a Frisbee Competition, relaxed attentive and just enjoying the game. Just a few weeks ago, Vinny's parent used to avoid going down any busy street that ran the risk of adrenalizing him. After some training, she now takes him to Ultimate Frisbee competitions -- to relax. This is the BetterDog mentality!

🐶📚 Dogs are amazing learners! 🧠 They have this incredible ability to make connections between their actions and the outcomes that follow. 🤝🏼 For example, if a dog barks at a mail carrier who then walks away, the dog might think that its barking was the reason the mail carrier left. 📭🏃‍♂️ This little misunderstanding can sometimes lead to unwanted behaviors like aggression or more barking!😬
👨‍🏫 But fear not! 🎉💪 Better Dog customers understand how we can help our dogs replace unwanted behaviours with those we want to see more of, and ultimately build a strong bond of trust and communication. 🤝💖

Meet D, the gentle giant who narrowly escaped euthanization this week and now is on the lookout for his forever home.

Katy from Everything Raw Doggie Café reached out to us while the rescuers were bringing D home from the vet, where he had narrowly escaped euthanasia. The vet had reached out to experienced owners of cane corsos to truly assess the need to euthanize D. Without a doubt this dog needed a second chance. Thanks to this intervention and the right connections, D's life was spared.

Everything Raw Doggie Café plays a crucial role in ensuring D's recovery, providing him with a nutritious diet to help him transition to a healthy lifestyle. Katy made sure D was fed right, giving him the strength and vitality needed for his new beginning.

Better Dog was then called in to assist, and it was our pleasure to join D's team of rescuers. D is a big softie who had been crated for too many hours but showed no signs of dog aggression outdoors or any negative reactions to children or environmental noises. We took him for a walk, and he walked calmly, responding well to simple corrections. He passed other dogs without issue, demonstrating his gentle disposition. D is being neutered on Monday (moment of silence)

D’s story is a testament to the importance of giving dogs a second chance. With the unwavering support of Everything Raw Doggie Cafe the vet and these rescuers, D now has increased chances of finding a loving family where he can fit right in. Our role is just a part of the team effort to ensure D's well-being and successful integration into a new home.

Say hi to Coconut! We had so much fun on our first visit helping Nadine teach him to be a calm dog and leave his door-guarding habits... well... at the door! From a barky anxious Pomeranian to now living his best life, Coconut has no responsibilities but being as cute as a button. And what a job he's doing of that too! What a good boy!!

🌞🐾 A Huge Thank You to Our BetterDog Family! 🐾🌞

Yesterday at Riverain Park in Vanier, Ottawa, we gathered with some of our amazing clients and their incredible dogs for a special event. The goal? To work on socialization and provide a supportive environment for our reactive pups.

At the peak of the event, we had 16 dog owners and 12 dogs. Standing back, I realized something wonderful - it looked boring! And boring meant we had a complete success. All the dogs were calm and just waiting patiently, proving that with the right approach, even reactive dogs can find peace in a social setting.

Thank you to everyone who came out, for trusting us, and for contributing to such a positive atmosphere. Your commitment to your dogs' well-being and growth is truly inspiring. Together, we're creating a community where every dog can thrive.

What hours do you work?

First lesson today was at 5AM as this little one was brought home from the hospital. The parents have been training their dogs to be ready for a new baby in the home. Being new parents, they were a little nervous and asked Better Dog to be there for the arrival home for the first time.

It was a thing of beauty, as all the practice paid off and Mya and Simon were angels.

I took the opportunity to say hello to this little and welcome him to the pack

Keep Your Pets Pool-Safe This Summer

With summer here, the risk of pets drowning in backyard swimming pools rises significantly. This is due to the increased number of residential swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas, which have seen an 11 percent increase in the past two years.

Accidental Falls: Many pet drowning incidents occur due to accidental falls into the pool. Even dogs that are proficient swimmers can panic if they fall into the water unexpectedly, especially at night or as they age.

Lack of Supervision: Similar to children, pets are at a higher risk of drowning when left unsupervised near pools. Many drowning incidents occur within a short period when the pet is out of sight for just a few minutes.

Wonderful training today with Maya had a wonderful training session this weekend. Believe it or not, she was once nervous and overprotective of the front window. This little bark monster finally found her leaders. Look at her nice and relax now not picking up guarding jobs!
