On this National Friendship Day, we remember a true friend to horses.

Yesterday, the horse world lost Monty Roberts. His life's work changed the way countless people think about horses—not through force, but through understanding, patience, and a willingness to listen.

Monty often said that his greatest hope was to leave the world a better place for horses and for humans. Few people have had the lasting impact that he did on advancing the horse-human relationship.

Today, we honor his legacy by sharing three of the many quotes that continue to inspire horse lovers around the world:

🐴 "Horses are our silent partners. When we learn their language, this partnership grows strong."

🐴 "You must somehow understand that we as horsemen can do very little to teach the horse. What we can do is to create an environment in which he can learn."

🐴 "The horses are talking... just listen."

At the EQUUS Foundation, we are grateful for the example Monty Roberts set and for the countless lives—both equine and human—that he touched.

Today, and every day, may we honor his memory by listening more closely, learning more deeply, and continuing to build relationships with horses founded on trust, respect, and compassion.

Rest in peace, Monty Roberts. Thank you for being a true friend to horses.

🎉Congratulations to Tyler Tootoosis! The pawâcikêwikamik: Innovation Collective at SIIT is proud to present Mistatim Healing () with a $5,000 MicroGrant.

“My name is Tyler Tootoosis. I was born and raised in the beautiful, historic valley of Poundmaker Cree Nation.

I grew up with horses my entire life, and the spirit of the horse has guided me and carried me through the struggles and challenges I’ve overcome.

I am a husband and a father of two, Dallynn and Tayo. I treasure my family.
I have been an educator for the past 10 years, and I’ve seen the challenges the school system faces daily. I want to give back to the kids, youth, and families. I am now focused on my equine business, Mistatim Healing, whose main goal is “healing through the spirit of the horse.”

I am giving back the blessings that I have received from horses. To share everything I have because of where they have led me and stayed with me throughout my entire life, through horsemanship, history, and the Indigenous way of looking at the world, is my way of giving back for everything I have received.

“Horses carry the wisdom and healing of our ancestors and offer it to any individual who possesses the humility to listen.””
