MARTHA - ADOPTED

Hi, I’m Martha, an 8-week-old Border Collie x Terrier x Husky mix, and if you take one look at me, you’ll probably notice I look the most Border Collie out of my whole family. I’ve got the smarts, the sweetness, and the eager-to-learn attitude to match, too.

I’ve been raised in foster care for a few weeks now, so I’ve had lots of time to learn how to live in a home. I’m wonderful with dogs… big or small… and I’m always ready to play or tag along with a new friend. I also live with kids, and
I think they’re fantastic. I’d be thrilled to have some in my forever home, especially ones who love a fun, gentle puppy.
Like my brother though I haven’t been around cats very much, but I’m young, curious, and pretty adaptable. With slow introductions and a cat who understands puppies, I’m confident we could become buddies.

I’m learning my crate and house training right now and making great progress. My foster family says I’m a bright little girl who tries hard and loves picking up new skills. I’ve been on a few car rides too, and I do well when I’m safely crated.

URGENT: Lyra needs your help.

Lyra arrived at the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) in immense pain. This sweet senior had been living with untreated, severely painful abscesses in her mouth. By the time she reached us, the infection had swollen the right side of her face and had begun to spread into her jawbone.

Our veterinary partners have determined she will likely require a full mouth extraction; a complex and expensive surgery where almost all her teeth will be removed to stop the infection and finally allow her to heal. But recovery will be hard. At her age, healing from such trauma and learning to live without teeth will take time. Lyra will need weeks of specialized care, gentle handling, and ongoing medical treatment. She cannot do it without you.

The good news? even in this condition, Lyra still leans in gently for comfort. She trusts us, even through her pain and discomfort.

The hard news? This is the first major step of that journey: the removal of the abscesses and most of her teeth. It’s the only option left to end her suffering.
