Trained, Healthy & Adorable Foster Pup Now Ready for Adoption
His story is remarkable. On a cold, rainy night in early September, 2024, BUDDY, a big white Maremma, extraordinarily persisted on and on with his alert bark. BUDDY’s owners diligently recognized there was something amiss and set-out to find what it was that was distressing BUDDY.
Out in the country, between Caroline and Sundre, the danger could literally be just about anything! Coyotes. Bears. Cougars. Badgers. Wild boar. Bad people. Good people. Anything. The young couple suited up in rain gear, flashlights and protection. Nothing was found around the house, in the yard or the gravel road out front. But BUDDY would not settle. Something was out there. It was too risky to let BUDDY loose. Not only because of the unknown dangers, but because he was not very mobile himself. Aging had begun to not be kind to this 13 year old fuzzy floofball.
The young couple decided to drive down the main highway that runs parallel to their farm. Windows down and wipers on, they drove ever so slowly looking for anything that may be the cause of BUDDY’s alarm system. And there it was! A drenched, shivering, solid black puppy on the side of the highway who’s cries and yelps were drowned out by the pouring rain.
The young couple, who are relatives of Shar & Trevor (owners of WAGGLES Academy for Dogs), put the hazard lights on and jumped to action to save this puppy. He was very willing to be scooped up by them. Several hours later when he was dried off, warmed up, fed & watered the little guy slept soundly wrapped in blankets cuddled in the caring arms of his rescuers.
Day two after his rescue, ads went out on socials, in vet clinics and pet stores. Door-to-door inquiries as well, with no leads.
The next day, the young couple’s other dog, who is 17 years old, was showing serious signs of stress and intolerance towards the young energy in his home. Plus BUDDY’s condition started worsening. The couple decided they could not keep the pup and sought help from us here at WAGGLES to assist in placing him immediately into Foster Care.
Janelle raised her hand to help, and brought this amazing pup back to full health during the 10 weeks she cared for him. Including regular vet checks, dog training classes and his first haircut. He is a snuggly character who loves people and other dogs. He passed his level 1 training - best in class - at WAGGLES Academy for Dogs on October 31, 2024.
BUDDY passed away during the first week the pup went to his foster care home.
To date, no one has come forward to claim this pup or report a missing pup of his description. He is an intact male, either crossed or pure Cocker Spaniel, estimated 8-11 months old.
He is ready for his next adventure with a person or family who can finish his story. His name is TROOPER.
