Just finished delivering 50 of of our 6 pound plus chickens to Farm to Family in Barrie to be distributed to families needing a little help this Christmas.

All four kids helped but it has been just so busy!

Checking on my greenhouse this evening. Here are two pictures one of Ethan on June 8th and one today, July 4th.

This greenhouse was all naturally fertilized over the winter as we kept our laying hens and rabbits in here during the cold winter months. They made some beautiful 💩 (no artificial fertilizers, chemicals or pesticides used, ever!).

Soon our potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, beats and peas will be ready to eat ☺️😊. This process is becoming less practiced but it is sure worth it when you let nature do her thing naturally with the taste being truly different and nutritional value being much higher.

Did you know we are Ontario's first and only pastured poultry producer growing chickens under the Local Niche Markets administered by the Chicken Farmers of Ontario?

To date (since the program was first introduced in 2015), our farm is the only farm to have applied, successfully been approved and growing chicken under this program. This program was created by Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO), "to support a targeted niche markets in Ontario which are looking for new ways to access larger volumes of locally grown chicken". If you want more farms like ours, support is needed.

Now we do have to adhere to the Policies and Regulations of CFO including the Raised by a Canadian Farmer On-Farm Food Safety Program (OFFSP), the Raised by a Canadian Farmer Animal Care Program (ACP), and the Farm Worker Safety Program - which every chicken farmer in Ontario and Canada have to comply to. No ifs, ands or buts - if you grow up to 3,000 in the Artisanal Program or if you grow 250,000 chickens a year in the Core Business Program - all chicken farmers go through the exact same annual audit process - no matter what scale you produce at.

The key difference in our chicken compared to those grown in the other programs and other chicken grown in Ontario (what you typically would find in a grocery store) is that our chicken is truly pasture raised. We don't say pasture raised and only give them "access" to the outdoors from a stationary building. We want to be transparent with our customers and one of many reason why we chose to grown chicken in the manner in which we do is because when we really researched the food we bought - there was and still is so many food labels and not enough governance in the labels of how the food was actually produced. This is complete misinformation and I still get confused with all the food labels out there. That is why transparency is very important to Chad and I and that is why we call our chicken The Real Pastured Chicken. We can honestly say (claim) each and everyone of our chickens are on pasture 24/7, day and night, rain or shine (or snow as per this wonky year) during our production months from mid April to the end of October. Each and every one of the chickens we grow are moved daily onto a clean, new, fresh piece of pasture.

Movement is key in producing pastured poultry, which mimics nature. We have mobile (moveable) buildings that are moved each day to give the chickens we grow the ability to have fresh, new, clean pasture to harvest bugs, enjoy the beautiful sun, dig in the dirt, breathe clean air, forage on pasture and walk & lay on clean, new, pasture each day. Our mobile buildings (we call pasture pens) are floor-less so at night or when it is raining they are still on pasture but they are protected from the weather elements and predators. In turn by using rotational pastures each and every single day, each and every one of our chickens evenly deposit nutrients (💩) onto our fields and in turn we are helping the environment by not adding any chemical fertilizers and we do not overgraze one area of our farm. This method of farming is sequestering carbon and added the microbes back into our soil. So when you buy our chicken you are buying a more nutrient dense meat for you to eat -> which in turn is far superior in health benefits for you
