Someone got their paw (& subsequently their head) caught in the cookie jar!

This is an X-ray of a dog’s bent front leg. See that tiny white spec? That’s a microchip! It has migrated down the leg....far from where it was inserted, between the dog’s shoulders. This is actually quite common.....
When lost pets are scanned, the entire body SHOULD be scanned to catch any that have migrated. But, as an owner, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AT THEIR YEARLY VET EXAM, to ask for a quick scan to make sure that: (1) the chip is still working, (2) the location of the chip is good, and (3) that the chip info is correct.
Remember microchips save lives and reunite families with their pet.... just have it checked regularly!

Happy Halloween from all of us at CAHS.
Remember costumes can be scary to your pets too. If they are unsure or uncomfortable, create a safe place for them to spend the evening and don't allow them to get at your Halloween candy stash, as that can be harmful to our pets.
Stay safe and have a great evening!

ATTENTION FERNIE DOG OWNERS
There is a viral canine cough outbreak in the Fernie area. If your dog is coughing or is immune compromised please stay away from high traffic dog areas such as dog parks, downtown sidewalks, play dates and doggie daycare.
Give us a call if you are at all concerned about your dogs health or book an appointment today through the PetDesk app to consult a veterinarian.
See below for more details on "Kennel Cough"
"Kennel cough is an infectious bronchitis of dogs characterized by a harsh, hacking cough that most people describe as sounding like “something stuck in my dog’s throat.” This bronchitis may not last long and be mild enough to not need any treatment, or it may progress to a life-threatening pneumonia depending on which infectious agents are involved and the patient's immunological strength. An uncomplicated kennel cough runs a course of a week or two and entails frequent fits of coughing in a patient who otherwise feels active and normal. Uncomplicated cases do not involve fever or listlessness, just lots of coughing."

Well, it's been a wonderful, wacky week with a whole bunch of furry friends and a dragon! Yup - we are branching out big time!
Little dogs, big dogs, in between dogs, puppies, seniors, teeny bopper dogs, smelly dogs, fat dogs, skinny dogs, snarly dogs, and friendly dogs! Had fun walking dogs and dragons, swimming in the creek & river with the doggies, catching grasshoppers for the dragon, and chasing frogs through the garden!
Whew....what a week!

UPDATE: owner is willing to lower to any reasonable offer, as long as the home is right for the dog.
Courtesy post for family needing to rehome a well loved 3.5 yo Husky due to complex family situation.
Handsome, neutered male, vaccinated, tattooed, good with big & little people, and cats. Sheds a lot and needs regular exercise - normal for this breed. Bonus - no puppy stage!
Must be able to provide references and ideally a home with a good sized, fenced yard or acreage/farm.
$750.00
I do not personally know the dog but trust the info provided by owners. Their primary concerns are his needs and finding a loving home for him.
Message me for owner's contact info.

Which one one these 3 does the best job at guarding the kingdom and catching their own supper?

There are lots of perks to doing what we do. You get to love and appreciate all the dogs that you can't claim as your own, you get cat snuggles from lots of sweet cats, like grandbabies or other peoples kids - if they are mischievous or grumpy you eventually get to give them back to their owners.
Last night, I was meeting up with a new client and the conversation was very endearing. I got asked in wonder by a 5 year-old, "Just how old are you?" to which I replied "just old." For context, I added that when their Dad was a baby, I was graduating high school. Reply - BIG eyes👀! I learned from the 6 year old that someone in the household might have a crush on my daughter and then I was promptly advised I had been crowned the honour of being her new grandma. I'm okay with that, in fact it's pretty special. ❤👵👑

Well, it was a slightly slower week with not so many stops but a few out of town so more time involved.
Regular walks with sweetie 'E', special time with Jethro, a few days with 'D' the beardie who had some lovely canine, feline & bovine companions, 'O' the big1 but shy GS cross, and a day visit with SW'. Moo's brother also came over to play and 'F', Moo and 'SW' had so much fun play fighting and doing zoomies around the yard.
I'm going to have to build a wall around my peonies as 'others' seem to agree it's a nice cool spot to rest. And no, Mexico will not have to pay for it. Lol...

What's new in the HSH Zoo?
Oue new puppy is keeping us all busy this week,. She has been a dream so far. Only a few (p)oopsies & so happy she loves being outside. 1She has had the pleasure of C's company all week and so they play for 20 min, sleep for 40 min. Repeat....
We have also had 2 pairs of big dogs to care for all week, so there have been lots of walks and adventures on the creek! It also means long days but it is all worth it!
We were so happy to be able to check in on our buddy Jethro (blind/diabetic sweetie) in Lundbreck. We so enjoy our time with him and he is so resilient and happy to see us & go on a walk.
Between the heat & the smoke we have all been feeling it so let's pray for rain! Also, the creek is getting really low already and a bit smelly. Will have to relocate our swims to the Old Man, Castle or Mill Creek.
We have also picked up a new client for regular walks - if interested, let us know & we can do punch passes!

What's a typical day for Roxane & Emma at Home Sweet Home (HSH)?
Roxane gets up early🌄, about 5 am and does morning rounds, going to clients' houses, letting animals 🐶🐈🐭🐇🦎 out or checking them, feeding 🍽🥛, play time 🧸, etc. Then off to work 👷♀️.....amount of time with your pets depends a little on how many different clients we have.
Sometime later in the morning or early afternoon, one of us will do another round of visits 🖐 & depending on temperature etc try to get a walk in 🚶♀️🐕.
Starting about 830 pm we usually start our evening rounds, walking,🏃♀️, swimming 🏊♀️ in the creek 🏞, play time 🧶🥎🦴etc. and then put your babies to bed 😴🛏.
By then we are happy but tired and are off to bed ourselves. 💤💤
Cats 🐈⬛🐈 are a lot simpler, as you can imagine, but they still get at least 2 visits including snuggles, brushing, playing 🪀 and even outdoor time if your circumstances allow for it.
Services can be adjusted to your needs. Walks are usually just with your dog(s) but if they are well socialized, we do some clients together or take them to the dog park.
We are comfortable giving meds (oral or injection) and we are okay with almost any animal (not 🕷). .
Questions❓
Send us a message & we will be happy to answer them.

This just happened to the HSH family. Miss Moo has joined our crazy household and helped to repair the giant hole left by Mr. Max's sudden passing. She is such a beautiful little girl and we look forward to creating lots of new memories with her on our many adventures.
HSH will continue to be thrilled to care for your pets in your home but, for a little bit, we will have to restrict furry friends visits to our home until she gets her booster shots and adjusts to her new home. We continue to provide the core of our services, which is caring for your animals in your home.

Well, today is a big day for us! There will be a big surprise announced later today so stay tuned!
We have had a great time this past week. We had two lovely beagles staying with us for a week. They kept us laughing and saying SHHHH and of course, our cats just figured them out in the last day or two. We also had two beautiful boys we were checking in on at their home and we did some fabulous adventure walks and creek swims with them. We had actual smiles from our one big boy with that! Yesterday/last night we hosted a lovely border collie x who could probably tire out an army when it came to playing with the shark and ball. Such an incredibly smart and energetic dog! Then we also had the good fortune to be able to look after one of our first clients (J) again in Lundbreck who is blind and diabetic. He is an absolute charmer and we adore him. Oh and I almost forgot, a sweet Jack Russell x who mastered the art of tiring out the beagles zooming around the yard in the few hours he came to visit!
Whew - no wonder we are tired but are loving what we do!
A huge THANK YOU to those that have been referring new clients to us; past clients, Pincher Creek Humane Society/ SPCA, Pincher Pets, Pincher Creek Community News and Events, Peak Veterinary Hospital, Country Veterinary Service etc.
We have a big switch over to new clients starting today. Things are really getting busy for us so don't delay and book your time with us asap as we do have a limited amount of clients we can take at any particular time and there are few other animal care options out there for you and your fur babies.

To a dog, fireworks are terrifying. Their survival instinct makes them naturally afraid of loud noises not to mention bright, erratic, explosions in the sky. So we recommend trying some of the following tips to make firework season less stressful for your dog.

We are expecting some hot weather in the next few weeks and months. Please be aware of the dangers associated with leaving pets or children in vehicles. Things heat up more quickly than most people realize.
Better yet, leave your fur babies at home and let us care for your pet while you are away!

We have been having lots of fun this weekend and it's only Friday!
We got to spend time today with a super sweet dachshund / WEINER dog named Max. He was soooo sweet and soft and cuddly. We sure hope he visits again. Just about couldn't see him in the long grass out back though!
Then we met a LEANER dog named Jack. This energetic young fella is tall, blonde and very handsome. He loves to play in the back yard and is super fast. And he is a leaner dog because for those odd times he stops moving he leans on you! Get it...LEANER dog! 🤪😅
More fun tomorrow for us and our 4 legged friends!

We want to introduce you to a new friend of ours.
His name is Jethro and he is an amazingly friendly chocolate lab. He also is blind and diabetic so needs insulin injections twice a day.
We had the honour of getting to spend time with him this past weekend while his human was out of town. We went on walks, had lots of scratches and belly rubs, gave him his meds and did the usual food and water bit.
Normally his owner would have to take him all the way to Lethbridge, leave him at a vet hospital and then turn around and head to his destination. Same thing when he returned. Our services were easily half the cost, plus saved him about 6 hours travel time and Jethro was truly happy in his own home. We look forward to our next date!
Feedback from his human after his daily photo updates:
* Oh awesome thank you!!! He is looking like a very happy camper!!
* How was J when you got home? He was wore out and a very happy dog!! I can't say enough how happy I am thank you!!! You girls are amazing!!
