One of the main concerns I receive with parrots is not being able to get them back into their cage. Often the cause is that the fun is always on the outside!
Here we have Mikey the Congo African Grey, part of our morning routine is preparing enrichment for the day. One of his favourite enrichment items is the baffle cage. Being consistent with where I place it, Mikey has learned where to go to enjoy it. He will spend a solid 30-45 minutes foraging for his second breakfast.
There are many ways to teach a bird to go back to their cage, to make it stick they need to be enriched!

Another one of my favorite enrichment pieces are balsa wood blocks. This soft wood is great for beak maintenance as the beak slides in before the wood breaks off.
Being easy to chew through to get a tasty treat will mean big success for your bird. A great way to introduce foraging to the inexperienced!
Remember, if your pet doesn't play with enrichment then it isn't enriching!

We all know how pricey bird toys can be, a simple way to spread cost is by reusing and combining toy parts. Rumaging through the toy bin I found a scrap of paper rope and a wooden block, nothing fancy!
For optimal engagement I stuffed pieces of nuts inside.
Remember if your bird doesn't use their enrichment then it's not enriching!

🐱Feline Enrichment🐱
Many cats have a strong preference for toys that allows them to engage in their predatory sequence.
Stalking - Chasing - Pouncing - Grabbing - Clawing - Biting
Toys such as feather wands, balls or battery operated mice are great options to trigger their hunting behaviors.
If cats are not given the opportunity to display these predatory behaviors they may seek an alternative outlet towards their housemates (which may not be reciprocated!).

At 14 weeks old, Sadie is being introduced to her first food puzzle.
Snuffle mats make excellent beginner puzzles. If we offer puzzles that are too difficult our pets will become frustrated and give up.
Once your pet has found all of their food then we can increase the difficulty. They should feel like winners every time! 🏆

As our pets transition to seniors it becomes more difficult to do physical outdoor activities, puzzle feeders are a great alternative to keep them busy.
